Rating: Summary: Martin provides a mirror for us all! Review: If the thought, "How dare Steve Martin end his stage career and leave us to deal with the ignorant and amoral amoung us alone?" has ever crossed your mind, this is the book for you. He somehow manages to capture their sad existence and record it with a flourish that even they will find hilarious. That is the wonder of the book- every reader will at some point stop to ponder, "Is he talking about me?" And, idiots that we are, we'll answer, "Of course not!" And therein lies the fun!
Rating: Summary: Steve Martin at his funniest. Review: The book was fun to read, and the CD version of Steve Martin reading the book was absolutely wonderful.I imagine that it might have been a good season for Martin because I received the book as a birthday present in November and got the CD for Christmas, when by coincidence I gave the tape and two books as presents to three different people. Five other friends and I also attended "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" on closing night (Labor Day weekend) last year in San Francisco. I think my friends, family, and I have contributed nicely to Martin's finances in the past six months, but it was money well-spent.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, satirical short stories by humorist Martin Review: This book is a collection of satirical short stories by Steve Martin. They look at the pretensiousness of modern life through the cracked prism of Martin's sensibility.
Rating: Summary: Avoid. Review: Steve Martin has delusions of adequacy if he thinks he can make it as comic essayist. This collection is cute, not funny. I am glad so many people who like this book, but there are highly educated people like myself who see this book for what it is: a perfect embodiment of its title.
Rating: Summary: If there was a -5 star rating, this book gets the prize Review: "Pure Dribble" should be retitled "Pure Crap". This is not even a book. If you are looking for humor in the form of short anecdotes, read Ranting Again.
Rating: Summary: This is as good as it gets! Review: Steve Martin is the funniest man ever. Anyone who doubts this need only pick up his collection of essays and read. After reading it I couldn't help but think of the classic phrase, "There is method in his maddness." I eagerly anticipate his next collection.
Rating: Summary: If you don't think it's funny, you're probably shallow. Review: I heard about the book on the radio, went to buy it but I noticed it was $20. I thought, "Twenty dollars for this little rectangle of paper, never!" Then I went home and started to think about it.... Steve Martin's the coolest, most stylish, classiest guy out there. So I went back to the store and paid the $20. Honestly? One of the best $20 I ever spent. Steve's wit shines through the entire book, an outloud laugh on every page. I'll admitt, some of it took some thinking, but in the end I was laughing... Buy this book. That's all there is to it, buy this friggin' book.
Rating: Summary: Pull over to the side of the road Review: This audiobook was hilarious. I'm a car listener and the tears of laughter this audio produces will make it tough to drive. Steve Martin's clarity of wit is unmatched in the land today. The production and quality of this audiobook was superb. I'll relisten to this over and over again when I need a quick pick-me-up.
Rating: Summary: Unfortunately, the title isn't ironic. Review: While I did laugh out loud a few times, most of the book was a letdown. I wonder if it would even have a chance at publication if the author wasn't well known.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful insight to the comedic mind of S. Martin. Review: It was great mental stimulation to picture Steve Martin in all of the potential skits in this book. He is always so much fun to watch that I'm afraid that my mental pictures were not as good as if he had been present, but it was still very funny. He is such a comedic genius, and yet I loved his first dramatic performance. What a talented, wild, and funny guy. I do wish that he had a web page that kept fans up to date when his new movies and books are coming out. We need more!! Too bad he's not a guest host on David Letterman's show every night!
