Rating: Summary: Really Funny Review: This Book is really funny. Each chaper is its own joke and style. If your into reading humor you need to read this book. This book is just full of Drivle. And just about any subject... like Kittens on Mars. I recomend this book to anyone who likes to get a good laugh out a good book.
Rating: Summary: Warning - Dangerous Components Inside Review: I would like to warn anybody who is considering taking this book on a plane to read. I did this, as it is a short, humorous read--airplane fare. But ohhh, what a mistake. I had to stash it in my bag after ten minutes and multiple glances from the passengers around me. For you see, a plane is a very quiet, packed-in environment--not very conducive to rolling-on-the-floor, eyes-reddening-with-tears laughter--which was the case when I first tried to read _Pure_Drivel._ All in all, Steve Martin is the comic genius everyone claims him to be, and this book is a fine example of his propensity to write incredibly funny essays. Yes, you SHOULD buy it.
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: I reely likked this boek. It waas funny to read. I had to look up sum wurds in my diktshunary, but it was still fun.
Rating: Summary: A Good Listen, but a Better Read Review: I've enjoyed Steve Martin's essays in the New Yorker, so I bought this CD to listen to in the car. I've been known to laugh out loud while reading his work. I thought that hearing Mr. Martin read the essays out loud would make me laugh even more, but I barely registered a snicker. His standup spoken is hilarious, but read is dull. His essays spoken, are enjoyable, but read, they are even moreso. Buy the paperback over the audio.
Rating: Summary: FUNNY Review: All I have to say about this book is that it has no main plot, but that doesn't matter when you compare it to the humor in the book. It's easy to read, and is funny the whole way through. I garentee that you will not be disapointed.
Rating: Summary: It is so simple :) Review: I love Steve Martin's wit! I like fun-filled simple and short. My favorite one is "Dear Amanda" you gotta read this! After I read this, I realized I have a Ratino Husband....Steave Martin scares me a litte :)
Rating: Summary: Steve Martin holds a mirror up to the world Review: 'Pure Drivel' is a pure hoot. Steve Martin's non-Euclidean sense of humor, his felicitous ability to look at this preposterous world at precisely the obtuse angle from which it begs to be viewed, is an endless delight. This book isn't farce. It is a view of reality, slightly askew - just as reality is slightly askew. If you don't believe me, try looking at the world along a straight line. Nothing fits! Not since the more inspired twists of G. K. Chesterton has a writer shown ourselves to ourselves as we must appear to intelligent beings (such as extraterrestrials or the cat). Why, it's funnier than contemporary politics!
Rating: Summary: Ingenious humor for intelligent people... Review: I love Steve Martin's wit and intelligent humor but "Pure Drivel" went beyond my expectations. I loved it so much that I have been loaning my copy out to my sarcastic and intelligent friends. Be careful listening in the car, I laughed so hard I had to pull over a few times.
Rating: Summary: Easy to read in short amounts of time. Review: Steve Martin's Pure Drivel gives the busy person a little humor in short periods of time. His ability to make people laugh on stage carries over into the pages of this humorous and short book. I enjoyed Steve Martin's look at the little things in life. He sees things in a different light and shares them with the reader. You can laugh outloud when reading this book alone or use it as a short story before bedtime. I recommend this book to the rushed reader.
Rating: Summary: I read this book and now I'm giving my opinion Review: The interesting thing about this book, PURE DRIVEL, is that it is in BOOK FORM. You see, these essays were originally in the New Yorker. Now they're not. They're in a book. It's disconcerting. When they were in the magazine, the stories were much more concerting. But Martin got a hold of them and had to meddle.
