Summary: Steve Martin can keep you laughing for five lifetimes.
Review: Steve Martin is an original. His wit has kept me laughing for years before I actually met him. Now that I have met him, he's even funnier and more strange. I have never met anyone I could never relate to other than to love him.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: "Pure Drivel" is a whimsical effort by Steve Martin.
Review: I am a huge Steve Martin fan and have been since I was 12 years old an saw him do happy feet on "The Tonight Show." I believe every comedian has a medium that he/she excels at and their work in other media tend to be less successful. Steve is not a master of the short story a la Woody Allen. However, several of these pieces are brilliant and the overall quality of the book has a charming (if slight) tone which is an improvement over his first book "Cruel Shoes." "Pure Drivel" also is a tad short in length, but it does deliver some quality laughs. Occasionally he goes for the surreal moment rather than the uproariously comic, so don't expect literary versions of his film and TV work. This book is a must have for the serious student of Steve's work, and along with "Picasso at Lapine Agile" and "L.A. Story" demonstrates his evolution as an artist.

Summary: Witty
Review: Some witty stuff in here. I've read parts of these more than once. (And I was thrilled to see Steve Martin in an Orange County restaurant three weeks ago. Nobody bothered him, nor did I. But it was fun to see him). I hope this is only one of many volumes of these type pieces to appear in the future.

Summary: Comic Legend
Review: From Television to Movies, Steve Martin has always entertained us one way or an other. Now, he has the opportunity to do it through words, in his book Pure Drivel. His comic talent knows no bounds, even in writing. He goes from an explaination of his Ralphael birdbath to an entire chapter that contains only one period. I would suggest that any fans of Steve Martin purchase this book, and people who don't know of Steve Martin, please, do yourself a favor and buy anything you can get your hands on by him. He is, after all, a comic legend.

Summary: a very smart and hilarious book
Review: Pure Drivel is a fun book to read and the laughs are non-stop!

Summary: Like, ohmygod it's so way funny!
Review: I paid FULL RETAIL for this puppy while trapped in O'hare Airport and then spent the next three hours trying to muffle my screams of laughter on a flight to LA.

Summary: "Pure Drival" is a danger to your public image.
Review: It is not often that while you read a book you suffer from sudden fits of hysterical laughter, and I would like to keep it that way. Don't buy this book, because if you do whoever is within earshot of you, when they hear you cackle and snicker for no apparent reason, will think you're "losing it" or "not playing with a full deck" or "not all there" or that you're "eating with the dirigibles" or "shallacking the waxed egg" or "looking inside your own mind and finding nothing there," or "pealing an empty banana."

Summary: Brilliantly written!!!
Review: Steve Martin's, "Pure Drivel" is by far the most intelligent book I've read in a long, long time. Whether he is showing the difficulty in writing "drivel", or trying to convince the reader of his ownership of an original Rapheal, he maintains a level of humor and wit unmatched by his contemporaries.

Summary: Not very impressed
Review: Steve Martin has always been a comedic god to me. In the early SNL skits, he was without peer. And in "The Jerk," his performance was one of the most memorable performaces I have ever seen. However, I have been reading his "Shouts & Murmurs" pieces for the New Yorker, and I have got to tell you, I think he should stick to acting. When I saw that Mr. Martin was putting out a book, I was a bit skeptical, because of my rather unethusiastic reaction to his "Shouts & Murmurs" pieces (ie The Wiley Philipino). And needless to say, I am horribly disappointed that this new book is a flop. It is filled with supposedly funny, but rather plain & stupid rants. And in a day when you can purchase similar books that actually are funny, like Jon Stewart's NAKED PICTURES OF FAMOUS PEOPLE and Dennis Miller's RANTS, why waste your time reading not funny dribble from a man who has always conjured up comedic thoughts whenever his name is brought up. Please, Steve, stick to acting or at least try to have something funny or meaningful to say. This format does not do justice to your talents. In fact, I feel pretty horrible about saying anything bad about the man who has brought me so much joy, but Steve please don't ruin your already great image with such garbage.

Summary: The title itself describes my view about this book. Run!!!!
Review: Another example of a celebrity author who gets to write because of who he is and not what he has to say. It is unfortunate that good writers never get a chance.
