Summary: Made in the USA?
Review: Does anybody remember the "promise" Wal-Mart made on commercials to buy "American Made" products and offer them for sale whenever possible? How long did that last? 6 months?? Now...Sam Walton's company is the largest retailer of products "Made in China". Would he be proud if he were still alive? Probably not.

Summary: The giant started small
Review: Even though Walmart is a giant now and feared by many small businesses, it started small by finding out what the customer wanted and giving it to them. I listen to this audio book over and over again and always come away with a new idea. This is one of the best books on building a business.

Summary: W O N D E R F U L !!! You HAVE to read it !!!
Review: Fantastic. Don't miss this reading. Next time I go to the City of Curitiba, south Brazil, I'll visit the Wal-Mart shop, just to feel a bit of Sam's entrepreneurial spirit. I'll never forget this reading, specially because I'm starting a retail business. There are many valuable tips inside this book. Buy it.

Summary: Very good - especially with Wal Mart now taking heat
Review: First off, this is a very strong story of a man and a business. Walton does a nice job of telling a clear, concise story about how he built the business of Wal Mart. It's very enlightening to hear him admit with pride that he invented very few of the ideas that made the store such a success, instead borrowing the best ideas from every store he visited (and he visited a lot).

Secondly, this book contains a valuable example of how capitalism forces the evolution - for better or worse - of industries. Walton takes the reader from the days of the small-town five and dime all the way through the mega Wal Marts of today. It's a valuable read for anyone interested in business.

Third, reading "Made in America" provides the reader with some important context for considering all of the attacks on Wal Mart in the popular press. You get to see that Wal Mart was built with really good intentions and that even though not everything born of Wal Mart's rise to dominance is an unmitigated good, it has done a lot of positive things for American consumers. That's really valuable because Wal Mart has become a bit of an unequivocal evil in the modern press and that simply isn't an even-handed treatment of the subject.

Highly recommended for those who would like to understand the motivations behind Wal Mart being what it is today and a great business story to boot.

Summary: WOW! What a book!
Review: I am so happy i bought this book and took my time reading it. I have read a number of autobiographies by CEO's but this one is special. Sam Walton talks straight from his heart- simple language no management jargon we see spewed all over these days. The passion of the man which transends in the 300 odd pages of this book, is the same which went into making Walmart what it is - The #1 company in the world. Great enterprneurship secrets lay within this book.

Summary: The Most Valuable Book in the World
Review: I can say without doubt that I have come across the most valuable book ever published in the whole of history, which is estimated to be worth around $80 Billion... encouraging, inspiring, insightful, interesting, modest... SIMPLY SUPERB!!!

Summary: A surprisingly good read!
Review: I didn't really expect to like this book. Afterall, what could be so compelling about some guy who started a bunch of discount stores in Arkansas? Boy, was I wrong. This book is a jewel. It's a must read for anyone in business, whether a small business or a big corporation. You'll never look at a store the same way again after you read this book. You can easily believe that Sam Walton's approach would improve most business. Work hard. Work smart. Learn from your mistakes. Treat people right (employees and customers). Keep your eye on the ball and the bottom line. Don't listen to naysayers. Keep a smile on your face. Sounds like good advice to me!

Summary: Great Book!!
Review: I have been interested for a while about the life of the man behind the Wal-Mart empire. And the man who would've been the richest man in the world had he been alive today. This book was an enjoyable first hand account written by the man Sam Walton himself in his own words. With some comments from some of the key people in his life. I felt that I kind of got to know Mr. Walton personally as I read this book. He also, of course, has some great insight on how to build and run a successful business. I highly recommend this book, whether you want to learn more about Mr. Walton himself or just Wal-Mart. Also has some great black & white as well as color pictures included in the book.

Nobody understands best what or how is a retailer than Sam Walton. Everything is here. Read it and you will understand how to build a retail. You may end don't liking this life but it's the only way to be a winner on retail business, it's not a business is the way you will have or should live. Being a retailer is a 100% time job, all your family has to be a retailer with you, no question on this. Sam Walton is not an exeption.
