Rating: Summary: "Touching Spirit Bear" Review: Cole has a really big anger problem. He is a Juvenile Delinquent and his anger has taken him way too far. After beating up his fellow 9th grade student, Peter Driscol, he was sent too many detention centers. Cole is about to be sentenced to a 'real' prison when his Native American friend comes to his rescue. Cole has two choices, to be sent to a prison or be sent banished to an isolated Alaskan island for a year. Cole has heard the horrible stories about the things that can happen in prison and he decides to try the circle justice thing that his Native American friend had told him about. Cole experiences good and bad changes while being banished that just might change him for the rest of his life. I rate this book a 5/5 stars. The reason is, because think that this book has great description and it could 'hook' anybody. This book is a great book and I recommend it for anybody.
Rating: Summary: Touching sprit bear Review: Touching Spirit Bear was the book I read and it was great. It got me hooked on it for hours and I couldn't put it down. I am not a huge fan of reading but this was one of my favorites. I give it a 5/5 because it had all the action I needed and it was very easy to read. Let me tell you a little about this book. First Cole was in lots of trouble and then got in more. He broke in to the school and some one saw him...... it was a boy named Peter Driskle. Cole then found out that he told him and did something to him that changed both their lives. Cole, for his actions, was sent to an Alaskan island where he found his sprit. Meanwhile peter had tried to commit suicide. Cole then saw the bear and says " you stupid bear!" and Cole then has a deadly encounter with a great, huge, and white bear. Read the book to find out if Cole really does change or will he turn back to a troublesome boy who has lots of anger or will he change and help Peter back to help; read to find out the amazing action filled ending.
Rating: Summary: Touching Spirit Bear Review: The author or Touching Spirit Bear is Ben Mikealsen. Touching Spirit Bear is an adventure fiction book. This book takes place on an Alaskan island. The main characters of this fabulous book are Cole Mattews, Garvey, Peter Driscal, and Edwin. This book is about Cole who always picked on Peter Driscal. One day after school Cole cornered Peter and punched him untill he bled. When Peter tried to run away he tripped and Cole smashed his head against the sidewalk many times. Finally a couple of kids pulled him away from Peter. After that day they tried everything to teach him not to do that ever again. They tried putting him in jail and that even didn't work. Nothing would make him stop. They finally decided to take him to an island and almost like being in jail, it is called Circle Justice. It is a discipline based on Native American tradition. Will Cole turn out to be a good kid or will nothing help him?
Rating: Summary: Touching Spirit Bear review Review: This book gave you the perfect perspective of a teenager, whos parents never cared for him. Cole was out of control, he went around looking to hurt other people, he badly hurt a kid named Peter Driscal, he might have permanent brain damage he felt powerful until one experience changed his life. When Cole was sent to island and attacked by the spirit bear. It left Cole feeling helpless and even small insects had more power than him. Cole survived the attack, when he was in the hospital his mother, Garvey his parole officer, and Edwin the eskimo who led him to the island came to visit. For the first time in his life Cole felt like other people cared about him and loved him. Cole no longer felt the need to hurt other people, because no one was hurting him. Cole returned to the island. However, Peter had attempted suicide twice. As a last resort. Cole finally gets Peter to trust him and all ends well. Cole changed a lot over the course of those few years. He went from being an angry kid who blamed all of his problems on other people. He never accepted responsibility for his actions. Cole's parents had always neglected him and Cole's father had beaten him. Cole didn't know any better or any other ways to solve his problems besides violence. When Cole was attacked it changed his life forever. He was powerless and thankful that he was alive. Then when he finally felt loved. It eased his anger. But, Cole didn't feel complete until he helped Peter. Garvery had helped him now he had to help Peter. Cole wnated to become and better person and he did, and he helped Peter stay alive.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, thought provoking, and a tear jerker Review: This was a wonderful book. I am an intern in a residential treatment home for adjudicated males and was introduced to the book by a teacher at the home. She uses the book in her class and the teenagers love it. I could not put it down and ended up buying two copies so I can loan it out. If we would use the "Circle of Justice" to help all young offenders, the world would be a better place for us all to live in.
Rating: Summary: Mystery on the Island Review: Cole's life was hard because he had grown up with an alcoholic mother and his dad who was abusive. When he would get mad he would take it out on every body else in a physical way. One time he actually beat up a kid so bad that he had head trauma. His parents had agreed to send him to deserted Island off the coast of Alaska for one year as a punishment. While there he had come across a white bear, and he gets so mad at it that he wants to kill it.I liked this book a lot because it was a mystery. Like when would he beat up another person? Would he be sent to jail or to the Island off the Coast of Alaska? This was the best book I ever read it kept me on your toes the whole time. Believe me if you like a good mystery this is the book for you.
