Summary: Extraordinary tale for young and old!
Review: An incredible journey through land and sea for the very young child through adult. Our children sat captivated night after night as we read each chapter, digging deeper into the story of Elmer and Boris. A true delight!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Easily the best childrens book I have ever read.
Review: As a child of 7 I first listened spellbound as my 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Cohen read with delight the adventures of Elmer Elevator. I never forgot this story. Now, at almost 50 years of age I have read it to my children, and all of my elementary classes no matter what grade. All have loved every moment of every page. Thank you Ms. Gannett!!!!

Summary: My Father's Dragon
Review: As a reluctant and less than superb reader, I was delighted by this book when it was presented to me when I was eight by the exasperated school librarian. The engaging storyline enveloped me immediately. I credit this book with sparking a life-long love of great stories. This book would be a winner with any child!

Summary: My 8-year old could not put it down!
Review: I brought these books home from the library and as soon as I had read the first chapter to my son and one of his friends, they were hooked. My son would read on the way to school and all the way home again. Neither of us could wait until the next day when we could read more. It is not only about dragons, but about wonderful ways to solve problems; and about imagination. We were both very sad that the trilogy ended. I guess we will have to write our own adventures for Elmer Elevator since he is still young enough to have many more opportunities to fly with Boris!!! Thank you Ruth Gannett! I intend to start reading these books to my son's class next month!

Summary: My Father's Dragon: read it again and again
Review: I first read "My Father's Dragon" when I was in first or second grade, and we had to fight to get to it first in the school library, it was so popular. (I am 40 now.)

I tried to buy it when I was in college, but it was out of print. I continued to ask about it from time to time, and the first time I heard it was back in print, I ordered immediately. Later, when I had my own child, I began reading it to him, and he loves it also. He is now 13, and still picks it up occasionally, and still enjoys it. I just found out that there is a trilogy, and I am ordering today!!! I plan to order it for my best friend's 2-year-old, and I know they will find it just as enchanting as others have for 50 years. One of the best children's books ever written!

Summary: This book outlasts time.
Review: I first read this book in 1978, and I still love it. This story outlasts time. It is not merely an adventure story about a boy freeing a dragon, but it a message about the lengths we should go to help other people-even if they are dragons in their heart. It is about the adventure of hove as we free people from prison, what ever their chains may be.

The illustrations are done in foggy charcoal and perfectly compliment the story. The book was first published in the 1940's, and the illustrations are a snapshot of that simpler era. In a sense, they are a type of Norman Rockwell Fantasy.

I got this book for my nephews, and when my sister-in-law finished the last book, my nephew said, "Let's read them again."

Summary: This outstanding story will capture young readers
Review: I first read this story as a boy of 7, only 7 years after it was originally published in 1948. My own father was concerned because, as a child, I did not seem to enjoy reading. He read the first few pages of "My Fathers Dragon" then pretended to fall asleep. I was so engrossed in the story that, for the first time in my life, I picked the book up and read it to the end. This was the beginning of my love of books. Now as a third grade teacher, I read the first few pages of this wonderful story to my class and then quietly put the book down.

Summary: A childhood favourite revived!
Review: I grew up reading these "Dragon" stories. I recall the summer reading program at the St. Charles Public Library that I was a part of, and how my name filled one entire side of the card for "The Dragons of Blueland." I must have read these books a dozen times or more as a child.

Last Christmas, my wife surprised me by getting this volume for me. I had not seen these books since I was a child -- I was not even aware they were still in print, and had forgotten the name of the author. I read them again, and was as delighted at 29 as I was at 9.

These tales have a dream-like, innocent quality that has made them personal favourites for two decades!

Summary: Fabulous read-aloud book.
Review: I read this book to my 5 and 6 year old boys. They love the black and white pictures which tell the story. It was a good story to practice comprehension skills. As Elmer saves the baby dragon he uses various items each step of the way. I quizzed my kids on what he used to deter the lion, the alligators, etc. My 5 year old cheated by looking ahead through all the pictures; then when we read on he'd say he knew that was going to happen. We will probably re-read this book many times before they are able to read it on their own. I highly recommend reading it together as an adventure for the whole family. luv2read
