Summary: Ummmmmmm..........NO!
Review: This book really lacked the tension and the evolving storyline that makes you want to finish a book. I realize that it IS a kids book and that action and suspense might not be in this book's genre, but gimme a break. It was just plain boring. There are better books out there that provide a engaging plot and a higher degree of characterization than "The Cay". Even if it doesn't have death and destruction and things getting blown up it could still be "pleasantly enjoyable". It might of been cooler had it been called...."The Cat". Stew is the best.

P.S. Don't read it.

Review: The book the cay was very inspirational and it showed how important how it is to live and it makes you realize how important it is to be alive and having a caring family and that if you were alone on an island, you should fight to stay alive.

Summary: At 40 still one of the most memorable stories from my youth.
Review: I first bought and read this book in the 5th grade. It made a profound impression on me and it was one of the books that I remember rereading and enjoying each time. Today at age 40, I've read and/or recommended this story to several generations. The Cay is still one of the most timeless and poignant stories I remember. I reread it again this year just for me and loved it.

Summary: This reading is necessary to understanding prejudice .
Review: As a sixth grade teacher,I found this an absolute must in exposing students to the realities of prejudice and how "blind" rational people can be. When it comes to being intolerant of those who are different from us, children should be taught that prejudice is something they are not born knowing. Educators need to be sensitive to these issues, and since it targets a twelve year old boy it is most suitable for this age group. This story makes for quite a few open-ended discussions regarding respect for parents, survival, and prejudice. Please don't hesitate to share this book with your students.

Summary: This was an realistic book by Theodore Taylor
Review: I thought this story was great because it's based on some true facts that could happen in life. Some people don't take the time to understand little details or understand other peoples' ways of life. That's why, if you ignore the details in this book, you'll miss what the whole book is about! ----"Always judge a person from within their heart, not for what you see on the outside because of their culture."
