Rating: Summary: Wonderful, but not for everyone.. Review: This book has changed my life. I now look at the world in a much different way. However, it is not for the everyday person. One must be in the correct place in their life to be able to take in all that this book offers. Strongly religous people may not appreciate this book because it questions their faith system. Yet, if you feel that this world is changing and you can see the energy that is present in this world (and the good and bad that is done with it) then you may be ready for this book. (I am only 17 and like I said, it has changed my life. E-Mail me so we can talk more about the insights)
Rating: Summary: Packaged centuries old ideas with undergrad writing skill Review: James Redfield has read a lot of books (eastern spirituality etc)and packaged what he has learnt into a tolerably engaging story. The good thing is that he uses his "adventure parable" to teach well known ideas. The bad thing is that he lets the reader believe that he has pulled the ideas out of thin air and introduced a "new" spirituality. He would do well to let readers know the true source of his ideas so that rather than "seeing" him as the source, the readers can go to the true sources to further investigate what they seek. That said, it was an intersting read nonetheless.
Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your Time Review: This book suffers from delusions of philosophical thought. You'll suffer from the mediocre writing and wonder why the author didn't simply write a term paper. I wish I could rate it below one star.
Rating: Summary: A book that will change your life, if you will let it. Review: I cannot say that this book does not have its faults. It is something that could indeed be improved upon, and should be looked upon as a starting point rather than an ending point. But some of the insights into this book are truly wonderful, and could help to open your eyes to parts of the world that you have never understood -- or have never even recognized were there. This book is best for people who are already somewhat spiritual, and are looking for the next step up on the way. The insights do no good whatsoever unless they are understood and accepted.
Rating: Summary: This book I loved!! Review: This was one of the first books I read about spiritual enlightenment, and it still inspires me today. The book is filled with mystery, intrigue, and most of all--self-relization. I was caught up in the story from the very first page, and I highlighted almost the whole thing. One idea after another had such profound effects on me that I had to sometimes stop for half-hours at a time to sit and digest their meanings. As you can see many people disagree about the books appeal. And to that all I can say is that it's an excellent book for some--and truly life changing if you're one of them.

Rating: Summary: The vehicle for spiritual awakening. Review: Celestine is an amazing that can truly open the eyes of those begining, or working on, their spiritual growth. One can not make somebody read Celestine, or the reader will not have the grasp they need. The book must come into a readers life by "coincidence". "When the student is ready the teacher will apear." This phrase is particularly appropriate when you consider how many people that truly love the book "just ran into it." For you who have read Celestine, you will know what I am saying, for you who haven't, put Celestine on your reading list; you will get to it when the time is right. The adventure story style of Celestine is not an excelent method for protraying what Refield is saying. This way the reader can follow the developement of somebody, and see how to start their own journey. Very well done all together.
Rating: Summary: Highly disappointing Review: I could not understand why this book was so popular. The idea was cool, but Mr. Redfield is a mediocre writer. His generic descriptions of people and places were typical of junior high school creative writing and his main character (as well as all the other characters) had no personality.
Rating: Summary: Could have been only 9 pages long.. nuff said. Review: I bought into the hype of this book and, by the 2nd chapter, was sorely disappointed that I did. Inside I found a bit of interesting philosophy about how coincidences guide us through our spiritual lessons and keep us in line with our chosen destiny. With a LOT of stretching on the reader's behalf, he is expected to take from this book and understand the purpose of all the bad and good things that have ever happened to him. Unfortunately, these thoughts (?lessons) were masked by a laughable plot with ridiculous, stunted characters, that removed any joy this reader may have attained. This book would have been best formatted as a directed philosophy book with REAL life anecdotes to support its statements instead of misinformed, stereotypical drivel suited for the soap opera watching, melodramatic, live via proxy, lives of too many people. I recommend that the authors reformat and offer a book that appeals to a higher consciousness - not just a higher television rating... either that, or hire a talented writer.
Rating: Summary: good point; bad vehicle Review: I have not completed the book as of yet and decided to check out some thoughts from other readers. I do think the book offers food for thought, especially if you are looking for a little more out of life than the hum-drum, day to day same old. My complaint is that the actual presentation of the material is done poorly. I want to know what this person's philosophy is and possibly some back-up; i don't want to read a sci-fi, action thriller. I found myself taking rest from the book at points where the fictional story seemed more impotant than the theory and idea.
