Summary: Oh come on, folks: GET A GRIP!!!!
Review: OF COURSE this book is atrociously written, OF COURSE its ideas are anything but original, and OF COURSE Redfield is laughing all the way to the bank!

But if many people are finding solace and direction from this book, then hey---more power to Redfield! The world is full of quacks and con-men, but not many of them actually bring at least SOMETHING positive into people's lives.

This book's main redeeming quality is that it DOES introduce many people to some of the rudimentary basics of Eastern philosophy, coupled with bits of Western psychology.

You could do better than to read this book, but you could also do worse.

Summary: Attention grabbing from page 1.
Review: Written in an adventure like style, this "Indiana Jones" type search for the Higher truth and inner peace, is a winner all around. Once I started reading there was no stopping. A truly delightful book that must be read with an open mind status and not necessarily with a literary criticism one. A book that mingles, in a masterful manner, reality with fantasy resulting in an impacting self growth experience for those smart enough to allow it to happen. Read it just for the fun of it and simply; ENJOY IT!! You will not regret the marvelous experience of traveling with its main characters (males & females) through an adventure packed environment. Practice what it preaches, and discover a new dimension in your every day live (without becoming a fanatic) for the best.

Summary: the most insightful(no pun intended)book I have ever read
Review: I started reading the Celestine Prophecy on an average day...I was not depressed or looking for any profound answer to the "meaning of life." I was quite pleased however that I found a book that has come closer to answering The question than any book I have ever read before. Many people suggested it to me, so when I had time, I read it...and I recommend that everyone else with the opportunity do the same. I was shocked to see how many people on this site gave the book a bad review. I suggest that you give it a second chance to change the way you live! Feel free to e-mail me if you want to discuss the book!!!!!!!!

Summary: Metaphors, anyone?
Review: The one star rating is for the lovely green color of the cover and nothing else. I did begin this book with an open mind. And then I was so angry with the author and everyone who had sung its praises that I think I may never again touch a new-age or religious book. It was just that bad. Unbelievable in every way, yes, but the one thing I wish to add to this discussion is that Redfield (at least in the 65 pages I could stand) never made use of a single metaphor to make the reading the least bit pleasurable. I don't know if he did that so as not to scare away anyone without an imagination, or if he doesn't have one to begin with (judging by the rest of the text, this is my odds-on favorite) or if this literary device (non-device) was meant to lend a journalistic verisimilitude to the proceedings. All it did was piss me off grandly. Also, I read the first 23 pages of the sequel with the express purpose of finding a freaking metaphor without success. I hope this man goes away soon and stops wasting my language and the world's trees with his nonsense. -Joseph A. Kemp, Jr.

Summary: best book I've ever read
Review: This is by far the best book I have ever read

Summary: Read this book and change your life!
Review: Poor dialogue? Bad plot? Rehashed spirituality? You are missing the point. This is not a story , it's a guide book. It's simplicity is it's greatest strength.By pulling together so many spiritual theories (old & new) , Redfield has drawn up an essential point of reference. It doesn't waste one page on waffle.Virtually every sentence has a message to convey , and the simpler it is , then all the better.I haven't read such a direct and effective spiritual book before.I believe the coincidences (OK , sychronicity) are a very real phenomenon.Following Redfields instructions actually does increase their intensity.Since reading the book , I have experienced some amazing sychronicity. And this alone is enough to change a persons spiritual beliefs.Shakespeare it ain't. It's far more than that. So don't knock something you don't understand!

Summary: fascinating and couldn't put the book down
Review: I got to the end of the first chapter and from then on I was caught in to it. The adventure kept the book on the edge of your seat, but the insights were the most interesting to me. I have been more aware of the things going on around me and I am trying to in some way figure out what the coincidences mean in my life. At the end of the story I felt that there had to be more and straight away began to read the tenth insight. It has given me more to think about as I am open to any idea as to why we are on earth.

Summary: The Book of Life
Review: I love this book because I have experienced every single insight in the book and more. As for the "coicidences" they are not. I wrote a speech about spirituality and the night before I had to give the speech, I picked up the book which I had had in my posession for a whole year and had never touched. I didn't even know what the book was about. It was given to me on my birthday by a friend of mine. And when I started reading it, it explained eveything my speech was about in a detailed systematic manner. I added that as my final "coincidence" on my speech. All we are given is the ability to look back and reflect. If you do that, I'm sure you'll realise that everything that has happened to you has happened for a reason and has made you the person that you are today. After reading this book you can take on the future with a whole new aproach.

Summary: Tried hard to find gems hidden in the bad writing ...
Review: .. but failed. Someone who writes (or speaks) unskilfully doesn't automatically mean he has nothing valuable to tell.

I tried putting aside that logic demanding brain. I tried reminding myself that higher realities don't yield well to the mechanistic way we've been trained to think. Still nothing, but a saddening feeling that great masses of people had been swindled by this valueless book.

I used the same attitude when I began reading Jeremy Griffith's badly written "Beyond the Human Condition", and, yes, I found something there. Griffith spent many years (six?) in the Tasmanian wilderness, but NOT to find "meaning of life". The clues (or the answers) about our existence came to Jeremy Griffith without invitation. I believe he'd been doing government commissioned research work at the time.

I wouldn't recommend Griffith for those who disliked or liked "Prophecy". If someone insisted on a recommendation, I'd put forward "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran.

Summary: Not The best author but look at the Bible, Come on.
Review: Ok Redfield wasn't the best writer, but look at the Bible. I mean Jesus turning stones to bread and Moses parting a sea or going on a trip and finding out for yourself about the meaning of life. Which one sounds more realistic. I'd like to see anybody try to come close to better explaining the Insights better than Redfield. But this book is all about being open minded, so whatever religion you may be; we're all trying to reach the same place. And for me it just seems the most simpliest way to get there. If your tired of the normal: get up sunday morning, got to church, give some money, leave, come home and say "I'm good for another week" artificial sense of faith, then read this book. It's the most spiritual book ever. Deep within ourselves we all have this knowledge, we just have to recognize it and then we as all humankind can harness it's power.
