Rating: Summary: Don't take it literally Review: I found CP to be an extremely entertaining book that, at times, was brilliant. Redfield put into words things that are thought of on a dialy basis but are quite hard to grasp. I have found, from numerous discussions, that those people who have a problem with the insights are those who are taking it all too literally. This book doesn't answer the eternal questions of life, and I don't believe that it set out to do so. It is a metaphorical happening that can be related to most every aspect of our lives. In the end it is just a fictional story whose enlightening insights wear down in intensity the longer it has been since you have read it. That does not take away from the fact that the novel does it's job, entertain.
Rating: Summary: A stupid book for stupid people! Review: It's amazing to me that people have actually adopted the new-agey mishmash of "insights" in this book as their own spiritual philosophy. Like the similarly unfocused "What Dreams May Come," "The Celestine Prophecy" fashions its own fuzzy theology from elements of a dozen religions, all in a loosely-constructed tale of some sort of explorer. If you're not looking for spiritual guidance of any sort, but just a book to read, you can skip this one because it's written at about a fourth-grade level, and the "plot" is boring, boring, boring. If you ARE looking for spiritual guidance, please don't start here, because even if you are easily-led enough to believe that Mr. Redfield is a visionary of some sort, the book offers no real insights of any kind. You might want to try the "Left Behind" series, which is entertaining as well as spiritual, but I'd recommend basing your life's philosophy on the teachings of "Superfudge" before I would "The Celestine Prophecy." DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: poor story developement, stilted writing Review: Since I only paid$.75 for this book, I didn't feel I was cheated out of any money. But I certainly felt I was cheated out of what could have been a very good story. I was not taken on a journey at all, inwardly or outwardly. Instead I just plodded along this book's path with no satisfaction to be found. It could have been a truly uplifting, insightful trip in the hands of a more elegant writer. I truly don't understand how this made it to any best seller list for any length of time.
Rating: Summary: I found it very insightful! Have read it 3 times! More! Review: How wonderful that in this country we are allowed to have opinions! I found in reading this book (and it is fiction) that it made me aware of the things around me, the sky is bluer, the grass greener and I find I have a lighter sense of being about myself and others. When I feel off track, I have read the book again. I had a harder time with "The Tenth Insight", but as a friend reminded me, you got 9 in one book and then a whole book to get one. Love Sallie's meditation tapes also, Good Luck! Come to Florida Jim!
Rating: Summary: Great Reading Material Review: Great for the soul and inspirational. Good food for thought. Another inspirational title I recently read is "The Third Time Is Now"
Rating: Summary: Beware the Religion Mongers and the Shallow Elite Review: The best of spirituality unites humans, the worst of religion divides them. Although I would agree that, sometimes, the writing and ideas in CP are somewhat simplistic, Mr. Redfield is, admirably, part of the former, while most of the negative reviewers are obviously part of the later or the shallow elite, who can't see beyond thier own ego blindedness and that's too bad for everyone, but most of all, for them.
Rating: Summary: Arrrghh! Review: I haven't felt this ripped off since I found out about Santa! Insights! What insights? Just a bunch of vague meanderings of some wacked out mind. Don't waste your money. I'm embarrassed that I actually spent money on this piece of crap.
Rating: Summary: To mister Open Minded Review: It's not a bible, it's not a manual, it's not some country Constitution, however, gives you a lot to think about, and finaly, when you think, you change your live.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I didn't enjoy the second version as well as the first. This first book has much to offer if you take time to understand the message. For spiritual growth...I also recommend "Conversations With God" and "The Third Time Is Now"
Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful Review: I thought this was an excellent book. I feel that a lot of people are tentative when it comes discussing topics like those in Celestine. My husband and I both use this book as a "guideline" for our lives. There are many good points. The only thing that I did not like, was the 7-9th insights. I felt the author rushed through them.
