Summary: A short Linda Howard novel
Review: Linda Howard's latest romantic suspense novel lives up to her usual style of suspense mixed with sensual tension. This one will keep your interest to the quick- and not so surprising ending. However, it doesn't compare to her earlier-and more involved novels like 'Dream Man' and 'Son of the Morning'.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: As a big fan of the author, I was looking forward to reading her latest, but it was hardly interesting. The characters were kind of bland and the plot was barely interesting. There was no sizzle; no really interesting conversations between the characters; no depth. It was genuine blah.

Summary: Dying to Please is to die for!!!!
Review: Wow! Linda Howard hits another home run! If you liked Mr. Perfect and Open Season, then you will absolutely love Dying to Please. The heroine,Sarah,is a strong, independent woman who meets her match in Detective Cahill. Both are weary of entering in a relationship but as the story progresses they draw closer together. Sarah meets Cahill after her employer is slain in his home on her day off. He is first suspicious of her but when she is cleared, they start seeing each. Through the course of the book there is a madman who will stop at nothing to have Sarah for himself. Another one of Sarah's employers die, throwing her back under the police's microscope. Is there relationship strong enough to overcome this new obstacle? Will Cahill be able to protect Sarah from the man who is obsessed with her? Well, I can't tell you that or I would ruin the surprise...This is a must read. I honestly could not put it down. I can't wait for Linda's next book!!!

Summary: Naked Wrestling? Where do I sign up?
Review: Ha ha! Yup, there's a naked wrestling scene in this book that will make your toes curl! That's one of the best things about a LH book: great sex scenes.

Sarah Stevens is a butler and bodyguard to a retired and wealthy federal judge. When the judge is killed she meets town cop and ex-military man Thompson Cahill. They are immediately attracted to each other but Cahill fights the attraction as he is still recovering from a vicious divorce. But, it's a losing battle for Cahill and they eventually get involved in a STEAMY affair. Then, another of Sarah's employers are killed and both Sarah and Cahill are forced to come to terms with their relationship and true feelings for each other. The big question is: can they trust each other?

I totally understand another reviewer's comment on the betrayal. The one thing that annoys me about LH's more recent books is that the hero eventually betrays the heroine in one way or another. It's not the betrayal aspect that bothers me, but the resolution of the betrayal - there is none! The hero has some excuse, but that's all it is, an excuse. The betrayal is committed, the hero says "I love you" and it's over, i.e., Dream Man. This book, however, did a better job than her other books with the hero acknowledging his blunder. Cahill not only acknowledges his betrayal, but is more than willing to do whatever it takes to make amends. That was the only thing that made my favorite LH book, After the Night, less than perfect.

Oh well, small complaint in an otherwise excellent book. Lots of great dialogue, a mystery that does not overpower the romance, the best sex scenes, and a magnificently sexy hero. LH's hero's are ALWAYS to die for. And, as steamy as this book is, the relationship between Sarah and Cahill, how they actually relate to each other is the linchpin of the story. Their relationship is not based solely on sex, but their sweeter feelings for each other. Example: Sarah (describing why Cahill's ex is an idiot for losing him): "Your neat, domesticated, intelligent, good-looking, sense of humor, sexy..." Cahill: "And yours." Does it get any better than that?

So, if I loved the book so much, why only four stars? It's because I feel that LH's recent books are more Mystery/Romance rather than Romance/Mystery. The last few books lack the emotional intensity evident in her earlier books. Read "After the Night" and "Shades of Twilight" and you'll see what I mean.

I have a feeling that the next book will be about one of Sarah's brothers who are mentioned briefly. Can't wait!

Summary: Not what I hoped for................
Review: I have to agree with a few of the other reviewers when they say this is not Linda Howards best work.

In this book Sarah Stevens foils a buglary while acting as a butler/body guard to an old Judge, and that is how LH starts off her story....but it goes from being the start to half the book!

Now...just as a thought here....why in the world did she go into SOOOO much detail with this Judge??? She detailed everything from what he eats to, how she liked to iron his newspaper so his hands wouldn't get all messy.....who CARES!!! She spent so much time on this first half of the book the second part seemed...rushed.

That was the problem with LH in this book! She drops all these lose ends and then just leaves them hanging. For example.....Sarah is supposed to be sooooo close to her family, but when she is in trouble (i.e beging looked at as a suspect for murder) not one person from her family calls or comes to help her! And then the little bone that LH throws in about her father being sick is so trite...I expect much better from Linda Howard!

If you go back to her books like Son of the Morning, or Heart of Fire, or even Mr. Perfect, you will see what she can really do. That is what makes these rather lackluster efforts on her part now so disapointing!

Not that the book was all bad, it had its good moments or I wouldn't have given it 3 stars. But the fact that LH tries to solve every problem with sex is disapointing as well! For example: When Cahill really hurts Sarah in this book, LH solution is to throw in a "hot" sex scene and all is forgiven.
It takes her book from being an awsome story with great sex, to an average book with hot sex. And as any true romance reader will tell you, we don't read the books just for the sex, that is why they have erotica.

Hopefully, LH next book will put her back in my top 3 must reads. I know she can do it.

Summary: Wow!
Review: I purchased the audio book to listen to during my commute. The problem with this book is that I didn't want to get out of car! This is one of the best Linda Howard books I've heard/read to date.

Summary: Wow!! She most definently has done it again....
Review: It just never ceases to amaze me that anything Linda Howard writes is awesome. The woman does charachterization, and plot like nothing I've ever seen. Her charachters linger with you LONG after you put the book down, and scream at you from the shelf to come and visit them again.
In Dying To Please she delivers once again a chilling tale, with a heroine who's smart and keen, and hero who's been burnt before and finds the heroine just too good too be true. Is she? Could this practically perfect woman be a killer? It's his job to find out, but how can he when all he want to do is jump her bones. YES!! I didnt' want this book to end! This was most definently worth the hardcover purchase price, and not to be missed!!

Summary: I want more books with these characters!!!!!
Review: I LOVED this book!!! I wish it was more of a mystery where we had to figure out who did it. I still loved the characters and the passion between them. They were perfect for each other. This book is much better than the last couple. I hope she writes another book with these two. Maybe after they get married and have kids. I would love to see them as parents!!! Read this book! It will keep you coming back for more!!!!!

Summary: The Perfect Butler?
Review: This is a fun book with people getting murdered every few days for no apparant reason, a cop that doesn't have much personality at first sight, but is to die for by the middle of the book. The heroine, Sarah Stevens is the best butler money can buy having had all the required butler training, AND being an expert in martial arts as well as a crack shot. AND she looks good. There is a catch though. Her employers are getting killed. The killer is actually stalking Sarah and has his own evil plans for her future. Natually Sara and the cop get together for some great times that stretch the imagination a bit but are great for a fantasy read.

Summary: I expected better-
Review: Ok, I liked this book, but I was hoping for more. I am a big fan of Linda Howard.I read the previous reviews and couldn't wait to get the book. I was disappointed.I was hoping for a little more suspense-I personally like twists and turns but this was pretty straightforward-no guessing-I like to be on the edge of my seat! And I like humor added in-which there wasn't much. I liked Open Season and her other books. If you like her stuff, read this but don't have high expectations.Maybe that's what ruined it for me.
