Rating: Summary: good but not the best Review: i have read all the James Patterson books i have been able to get my hands on. Although i did enjoy this book i did not enjoy it as much as the Alex Cross character novels. Maybe i have become too "attached" to Alex and don't want to be introduced to a new character, or maybe it was the fact it seemed to be more of a romance novel, rather than a thriller/mystery type book. It was still well written and worth the read, but not as good as Along Came A Spider and the other Alex Cross novels.
Rating: Summary: Boring, contrived not up to his abilities Review: I really enjoy the Alex Cross stories so maybe I was more disappointed that readers who don't know Alex would be. I found this book slow, boring, and extremly predictable. The love story was a waste of paper, like anyone couldn't see that coming. I am looking forward to Alex's next story.
Rating: Summary: Slow starter, but give it a chance. Review: Fans of Patterson's Alex Cross novels may be disappointed by the style of this book. This book reads more like the early work of an emerging talent. The book does not grab you from the start and requires patience and a chance to develop. However, if you give it a chance, this book is surprisingly enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Different...but still great! Review: The plot of this book is more convoluted than his usual works and therefore a little more difficult to get into, but when you get a good grip on all the threads, it weaves into a most satisfying plot. I enjoyed this book equally as well as his other works of which I am in the process of reading ALL!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining - if you have no other choices. Review: Having read Along Came A Spider in one day and loving Kiss The Girls, I was somewhat disappointed in The Midnight Club. A rather weak plot and little character building - didn't help this novel. Hopefully Patterson will break out of this "cookie-cutter" style and return to his original mastery.
Rating: Summary: Not his best work. Review: I keep reading Patterson's books because I enjoyed both Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls very much. However, Jack and Jill and now The Midnight Club have been disappointments. The Midnight Club certainly doesn't grab you at the beginning like Kiss the Girls, and I found I had no problem putting it down. If you stick with it you probably won't be sorry, but you won't be very satisfied either.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Patterson book Review: This book keeps you interested and turning pages from begining to end. All though it's one of Patterson's shorter books, you won't feel disappointed. There is nothing lackluster about this book. All the characters are written perfect, with believable back stories.
There are so many great things in this book. Everything makes sense, and the book doesn't end with any unanswered questions. The scenes in the book help you to really get a feel for the characters, good and bad. The final showdown in the elevator is absolutely amazing. After reading it, you know that there is no way that what happened could of happened any better ( I don't want to ruin it for those of you who haven't read it yet).
There is really nothing left to say. This book is great, enjoyable, and an easy read because it doesn't drag.
Rating: Summary: A little slow Review: This was a good book. I have been a Patterson far for almost a year now and I have read every book that I could get my hands on. This book just felt a bit slow to me in the middle. I guess that I have grown used to the Alex Cross action...
Rating: Summary: So predicatble, so very, very predictable Review: Nothing much to say. Lets see, after you are put in a wheelchair and your wife and partner are killed by a crime boss, you go and taunt him and then are surprised that he comes after you and your girlfriend in her home. Hmmm, maybe staying hidden might have been a bit smarter... Like I said, no suspense, no thought required. James Patterson has many good books. This however isn't one of them
Rating: Summary: Predictable Pablum Review: I picked this book up at an airport, curious to see what James Patterson was about. His books are everywhere and they obviously are very popular. Hence I thought I was in for a good dectective story. The start of the book was pretty good - it moved well and kept my attention. Unfortunately, after about page 15 the book went downhill into an unrealistic, melodramatic rehashing of every bad cliche known to the detective story genre. While setting them out here might be considerred spoilers - they are so obvious pages in advance only the most dim-witted reader could miss them - our hero is not killed but rather paralysed by the shot-gun blasts to his body (remarkably bad shooting from point blank range); his wife is brutaly murdered by the bad guy who shot him; his partner is killed - just before he could give him the piece of information that would have put the whole puzzle together; there is a world-wide consipracy of crime that our hero is battling; there is a romance between the hard-working single mother investigative journalist and our hero; that romance takes them to the farm where our hero grew up to meet the simple hardworking folk that raised him; the influence of the world-wide conspiracy reaches into the highest levels of the police force - I'm sure that there are many, many more but I finally threw the book down in disgust. This leads me to the question - is this a typical James Patterson book (ie. are they all this bad) or is this a bad book that would never have seen the light of day but for the latter success of James Patterson's other titles? I am very curious about this because I can not believe that anyone this popular consistently writes books this bad. Under this system the least you can give a book is one star. This book should be given negative stars - in fact what I really want is to get back the time I wasted reading this book.
