Rating: Summary: Rubish! Review: I fail to see how anybody can consider this a great novel. What it the point of it? I mean, first of all, it's boring. But it's not just dull, it leaves no impresion on the reader at all. I know that "critics" like to turn up their noses as popular writers such as Stephen King and Anne Rice, but I think you will find that the books they have written (at least the better ones) will have a lot more influence than this little fingernail clipping.
Rating: Summary: It was ok, but not great. Review: I found the book a little boring. Everyone says it makes you want to take a road trip. But ive decided the road life is not all that interesting. Read junky by william burroughs instead.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as I expected Review: I had heard all of the hype about this book and decided to read it, I was thoroughly dispointed with it. Although I enjoy the passion of a man in writing such a book, the story line was rather bland. It seemed as if the same story was regurgitated over and over again. Sal goes to New York, gets drunk, goes to Denver gets drunk, goes to San Fran., gets drunk, goes back to New York and does it all over again. If this story intrigues you at all I highly recommend reading Henry Miller instead.
Rating: Summary: The beat stops here Review: I guess I am not intellectual enough to get into this novel. It reads more like a journal than a novel. How could this garbage be considered one of the most important works of the 20th century? If this is the Bible of the beat generation no wonder the beat generation receives barely a notice in the annals of American History. At least Hayden and Hoffman had an agenda. What was Kerouac's agenda? Get drunk, do some drugs, make love and groove on the people. What a waste of intellegence.
Rating: Summary: Rereading On the Road Review: I recently reread On the Road this summer. Its been years since I picked it up. A lot of Sal Paradise's and Dean's wanderings now seem aimless to me now that I'm older, but I still really dig the Mexican brothel chapter toward the end of the book. (Alex Sydorenko, June 1999)
Rating: Summary: It was written seamlessly, and I truly enjoyed it Review: This book is great for the intellectual teenager wondering whats out there after high school. Don't worry parents it doesn't endorse boozing et al any more than that MTV show they're watching right now.
Rating: Summary: the book offers you a new point of view Review: the book is wonderful. it's about people who live their life the way they want to,i wish i could live that way. they really have fun, explore, enjoy, make new friends, love.... why has the world changed? was something like that really possible? people have forgotten what are life's real treasures. fortunately, jack keroauc knew, and you can find out by reading ths book. replys wellcome!
Rating: Summary: Not my favorite Kerouac novel, but a good starting point. Review: On the Road was my first fall into Kerouac's fragile yet enduring thoughts. The characters are memorable (at least to me), and the book clearly shows the power(?) of man in solitude. The book may just cause you to want to pack a bag and take a little road trip of your own. Not to follow in Kerouac's well-trodden path, but to find the meaning for your own life. Not my favorite Kerouac novel, but a close second. You might just get hooked on Kerouac, and if you do, The Dharma Bums might be the next logical step.
Rating: Summary: everyone's journey Review: Kerouac's On the Road is what every person is searching for yet no one knows it. Kerouac's main characters are searching for who they are as they travel to every corner of the country. A view of American life in a time when it was still safe to travel the country by hitchhiking, On the Road offers a look at enigmatic characters who just can't figure out what they are looking for but that is ok because that is what every person does during their journey through life.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites...... Review: I was amazed at how Kerouak was able to write of the hippie years before the thought of even war occurring. It's amazing, just like the book. It is one of my favorite books I have ever read. Superb.
