Rating: Summary: THE MOST WONDERFUL STORY I HAVE EVER READ. Review: I HAVE NEVER HAD A BOOK TOUCH ME SO DEEPLY AS DID BEACH MUSIC. PAT CONROY CAN PUT YOUR FAMILY TO PAGES THAT ARE SO REAL. I CRIED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER READING A BOOK AND LAUGHED OUT LOUD ALSO. IT WAS BY ALL MEANS, THE BEST NOVEL I HAVE READ IN MY 37 YEARS. THANKS PAT. CS
Rating: Summary: I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THE BOOK. Review: My husband brought this tape home to me. He gets full credit for giving a true gift of love. It was one of the best stories I have ever read. A story you can't put down. When the story is over you still want to be part of their life. You will want to know what happens to Jack in his new life. You do not want the book to end. Peter MacNichol does a superior read. The character are there for you. Get the book or the tape and fall in love with Jack McCall. As a Mother, I hope my sons can love me in my time of need as Jack did for Lucy.
Rating: Summary: An engrossingg read! Review: I was not disappointed to read this Conway novel, not in the least! As with all of the Conway novels I have read... there is an overabundance of interesting scenes and truly clever dialogue--enough to satiate my inner appetite for tangible, gripping fiction. I fell in love with one character in particular, Jordan Elliot, and sympathized with nearly every other character depicted. This is a story about lost and renewed love, friendship and family. Being given a peek at the personal histories of many of the characters enriched this book. The end neatly wrapped everyone's story together... though the stage scene at the local theater was a little hokey. I liked this book and would recommend Conroy anytime!
Rating: Summary: Can't bear to finish Review: I'm on page two hundred and this book is going nowhere very slowly. The characters are one-dimensional cliches and the dialogue is laughable. Conroy spends more words implying and contriving tensions than actually developing believable conflicts.
Rating: Summary: Pat Conroy has done it again! Review: This is vintage Conroy and I loved every minute of it. Big,outragous, unbelievable, eclectic, beautiful. Just like life itself. Books like this make me want to throw my T.V. in the Potomic river. Do yourself a huge favor and read everything Pat Conroy has written-I have.
Rating: Summary: This is my all time favorite book... Review: Beach Music is one of the greatest stories I've ever heard told. Every sentence is pure perfection, and Pat Conroy's story is both soothing and enchanting. The people who don't enjoy it are hurried, impatient people who cannot bear an 800 page novel. It is a long read, but only because you don't want it to ever end, and when it does you will never find a book that comes close to touching it. After reading it, I wanted everyone I knew to read it so that they too could share in the magic.
Rating: Summary: this book is terrible Review: I have read all of Conroy's previous work except "The Boo" and this takes the cake. He needed a better editor. How he does run on. What DIDN'T happen in this book? Suicide, the Holocaust, the Vietnam War, horrible dysfunctional childhoods, where no one loves their parents... There are so many alternating themes - any ONE of them explored in greater depth and with tighter writing would have made a better story. It was boring. I can't tell you how many pages I skipped over.If you want to read a really great Southern writer, read William Styron, especially "Lie Down in Darkness". I have always thought Conroy ripped off that plot (certainly elements of it) for "Prince of Tides". The deal is that Styron did it first and much better.
Rating: Summary: one of the best books i ever read Review: pat conroy makes the english language sing. his southern heritage and tales make me long to live in the low country of south carolina
Rating: Summary: I cried.... Review: Pat Conroy's best ever. I felt as if I travelled with all the characters from Rome to South Carolina. Lucy's feistiness made me cry for joy and even wacky moments such as John Hardin's present of a casket to his mother was written beautifully. I could picture the turtles emerging from their eggs which Lucy and Leah so carefully protected and heading out towards the sea...
Rating: Summary: Wonderful... you will laugh and cry! Review: My husband and I enjoyed listening to the book tape in the car and later at home in our bedroom. It was very powerful...you'll need to keep a box of tissues handy! The language was not appropriate for kids.
