Rating: Summary: Absolutely the only book I have ever cried during! Review: "Beach Music" embarks it's readers upon an awesome rollercoatser of emotions; much in the way Pat Conroy's "Prince of Tides" does. The central characters use of 'southern' humor to mask his pain, endears him closer to the reader as we watch him embark upon a journey of discovery and forgivness. A totally believable story!! Bravo Mr. Conroy!
Rating: Summary: I love "Beach Music" Review: Pat Conroy amazed me again with his superb writing style. His vivid detail made me feel that I was an onlooker in the town of Waterford along with Jack McCall and his dysfunctional family. I laughed and I cried and I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever lost someone they love.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read. Review: I enjoyed "The Prince of Tides" and decided to try another Pat Conroy novel, so I picked up "Beach Music". It was by far one of the best novels I have read in a long time. I felt the characters were incredibly well written. I could feel their emotions throughout the book. I didn't want this book to end, and I am looking forward to reading more Conroy.
Rating: Summary: Best novel, I have ever read Review: Pat Conroy is a master of our language. I can't miss a word. He has made it hard for me to read any other author. I hope he publishes another soon. Jeff
Rating: Summary: i couldnt put it down Review: the book was so good that i couldnt put it down and i am only 14. So it is hard for me to understand how people couldnt get into it. And extremely hard to understand the people who felt the charachters were whiny or bland. As for the people who say it is the same old thing again then why would you read the other ones. If he changed the style of what he wrote then it would not have been him. Anyway, I have read this and the Water Is Wide, I've seen prince of tides and want to read the book. Well, anyway sorry to be against your opinions, because you are allowed to have them. Now you know what mine is
Rating: Summary: Painful, dull slog thru first 400 pages. Review: This was my first Conroy book and it will be my last. The only reason that I stuck with the book through he first 400 painful and dull pages was because my sister in law, whom I respect, recommended this book to me. The characters are flat and nasty for the most part - a bad combination. Pat Conroy would have flunked any high school grammer test and I was entirely sick of his clumsy similes. The low point for me was when a female character in the book, who barely escaped the holocaust and retained her European Jewish childhood culture, used the words "did me" to describe her rape by enemy soldiers. The only reason this deserves any stars is for the final 150 or so pages when the main characters come together to face the truth about their lives and feelings.
Rating: Summary: A ridiculous novel at best. Review: I have read most of the books Conroy has written and since I am from the South I have enjoyed them immensely. This book however is the worst in an otherwise stellar group. All of the characters are so far over the top it makes the story terribly unbelievable. This book was not just fiction it was science fiction. The only reason I gave it one star was because I did not find a choice for zero.
Rating: Summary: magnificent Review: splendidly written, powerful and gripping. you can disagree with his political ideas (i do), but sure its a piece of art
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVER Review: If I could choose one book I total was in love with this would be it. I just finished and loved it. By the way i'm 13 so I definatly have to say by it.!!!!
Rating: Summary: A compelling and inspiring story written from the heart Review: Beach Music comes straight from the heart of Pat Conroy. As a native South Carolinian living in Italy for a few months, the words are truly heart-felt and his accuracy is perfect. Having been to nearly every one of the sites in Venice, Rome, and South Carolina, I must say that I have never before read something so truly amazing. He hits the nail right on the head each and every time! He shows me the Italy that I have grown to love, yet he makes me long for that quirky, intriguing part of South Carolina that makes me so proud to call it home. The story is one of love, romance, suspense, and mystery, all tied into a life, which is quite remarkable. I recommend this book highly and believe that Conroy has outdone himself again.
