Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: Refreshing, full-bodied, satisfying. Wonderful character studies. They HAVE to make this into a movie. I've already cast it in my mind...Brad Pitt, Dennis Quaid and Randy as John Hardin (or Woody Harrelson). The only book I would read twice.
Rating: Summary: One of the most enjoyable books I have ever read! Review: Definately Conroy's best! An excellent story with very good characters. Conroy's ability to convey beautiful sights and smells and emotions is absolutley wonderful! While containing some difficult moments, it's not as wrenching as POT or Great Santini. Great views on life in So. Carolina and Italy!
Rating: Summary: The best fiction I have read year to date! Review: Beach Music is the first Pat Conroy work I have read. It totally grabs your attention on page one and does not let go. To say this work will move you is an understatement. Conroy made a believer out of me and I'll be a fan forever. Can't wait to start on another of his works.
Rating: Summary: engrossing and grammatically superior Review: this was my first Pat Conroy book but not my last. This man uses language and words so perfectly that he is a joy just to read. But he also tells a story so completely -- sometimes too completely -- that the reader knows the innermost thoughts of every character, and maybe of the author himself. Highly recommended read.
Rating: Summary: A riveting, penetrating masterpiece full of passion! Review: Beach Music has an angelic quality to it. It is comforting and frightening, yet tempting and satisfying. It fills you with pain and tears, but shows you passion and love. It chronicles the swiftness of life, and the immeasurable beauty inside of that time. Beach Music is a window into the lives and hearts of an incredible group of people, and takes you on their journey. It portrays true, solid friendship and the risks one will take for the love of another. It was absolutely incredible. My words do it no justice. Pat Conroy didn't exist when i read this novel...I continue to believe the characters are real and exist.
Rating: Summary: Intense with twists-with an all too happy and tidy ending! Review: Hard to put down...many twists and layers of time and persons. Emotional and complicated, yet easy to read and follow. For such an intense and deep book, I found the ending too unbelievable, pehaps even shallow. Every problem is solved and everyone is happy. Even 20 year old grudes and hatred/fears from concentration camps. Makes you feel good, yet is also a let down for such a wonderfully suprising, emotion laden and intense book.
Rating: Summary: Painfully slow Review: This is the first book I have read by Pat Conroy, and more than likely it will be the last. Actually I didn't read the whole thing because it was so drawn out and dull. Trying to get into this book was almost painful. Save your money.
Rating: Summary: "Beach Music" will definitely touch your heart! Review: Pat Conroy's "Beach Music" was on my summer reading list for school. At first I didn't want to read it, but once I got to chapter 3 I was intrigued and had to keep reading! This book touches your heart in many ways. It plays at all your emotions, making you happy and then sad as a man desperately tries to come to terms with his past. I loved Beach Music! I was not only crying because of it's sad parts, but because the book was ending. GREATT BOOK! it was worth the 800 pages!
Rating: Summary: Pat Conroy at his heart wrenching best Review: I initially read this book in 1995 and loved it then. When I saw it on this list I decided to read it again, something I don't often do. Unfortuantely I finished it in two days and I think I did that the first time too. No one writes like Mr. Conroy, and though his desriptions are long they are not boring. This book had family, even though disfunctional at best, romance, mystery. It was all there causing rapid page turning and not allowing me to put it down. The first book of Mr. Conroy that I read was Prince of Tides, and was so impressed with the writing and the story I went to the library got all of his other books. Then the long wait for Beach Music. It was well worth the wait. Now Mr. Conroy, where are you? We need a new book!
Rating: Summary: I felt like my time was wasted. Review: Conroy's talents have turned to trying to make a quick buck, trailing on his other great works. The characters were very shallow and unbelievable.
