Summary: This book has no real competition
Review: While there sure are a lot of books on personal finance, there are none as comphrehensive as Ric Edelman's great work The Truth About Money 3rd edition. And there are not that are as current. Most of the books that are on the bookstands have been around for awhile and say pretty much the same thing.

Ric is different. He is controversial. But his advice really works. Ric is not some magazine writer without a financial background who has never helped anybody and decides to write a book. As another reviewer has indicated, Ric is very qualified to speak on personal finance.

Other books that are useful include The Automatic Millionaire and although they have been around for awhile, The Millionaire Next Door and More Wealth Without Risk still offer powerful advice that you won't find anywhere else.

The Truth About Money is an outstanding book that must be read by anyone whow ants to learn the truth about money. The facts, not just opinions. Advice that is tried and true, not tired and through as with some financial authors.

And as already mentioned, this book has been updated and is current. Not just a new cover on an old book.

Summary: This Book Has Many Competitors All Similar
Review: I had never heard of this book before I read the book. To me it is just another financial planning book. At our bookstore there is a shelf of these books 8' high by everyone from Charles Schwab to Suzi Ormon. There must be 150 to 200 books.

I cannot give it 5 stars. To me it is sort of ho hum another planner. I do not need a book to tell me to pay 20% interest credit cards off first or to explain the power of compound interest and savings or tax laws etc. This book has lots if information - I accept that - but it is repetitive with many other books.

Sorry but I think there are too many of these books by too many authors all making big bucks writing and giving seminars. That whole 8' high bookshelf could be replaced by two or three books including this book.

There is one advantage to this book compared to others. It is bigger than most and more comprehensive, and I grant that but still it might be over kill for many.

My humble opinion.

Summary: A complete financial encyclopedia on money management
Review: Ric Edelman's 3rd edition of The Truth About Money is the most complete book on money management period. It's rare to find a financial author who is skilled in the conventional methods of personal finance and has a largebase of successful clients to back him up.This man knows what he is talking about. Ric is the best. Get this book and get your finances in order.

Summary: No one else would dare write this book but Ric
Review: The more I read this new book by Ric Edelman, the more I like it and the more I appreciae good honest advice from a man like Ric.For example, in part 5 in the chapter on mutual fund investing, Ric uncovers the five most common broker tricks practiced by unethical brokers. Even though illegal, they are unfortunately comon practice. Sounds unbelievable I know...but it is also true. Interesting is that Ric also tells how broker tricks can become your treats. In another regard, I had followed the advice of another financial author and sold my annuities. This so called "expert" doesn't believe in annuities. After reading the chapter on annuities in Ric's new book, I became very angry at the advice of that so called "expert" and invested again in self directed variable annuities. The chapter on annuities in The Truth About Money will help you decide if annuities are right for you (I believe they are right for just about anybody) and show you how to shop for the best annuity.HINT: Your insurance agent's advice may not be in your best interest. Nor are certain financial authors who merely assert their opinions.Overall, The Truth About Money is an excellent book and a must read for anyone who wants to maximize their financial rewards. Only Ric Edelman would write a book like this one.The Truth About Money really delivers and should be a part of your financial library.

Summary: Excellent financial book
Review: Ric Edelman has long been my favorite financial author. He has mastered his craft and is the best. Ric has the unique ability to mix humor with fact. His books are fun to read and very, very informative.

I gave my copy of the original version and never got it back. Even so, I would have bought this one anyway. It is new and improved and sorry, I'm not loaning this one out.

Edelman's advice is right on. He correctly called the coming decline in index funds way back in 1997 and was right on, even though he was widely criticized for it.

What I like most about Ric is that he is not a me too author. His information is fresh and accurate. He is an innovator, not mainstream by any means. He is controversial and at the same time offers advice that really works in all areas of personal finance as well as investing.

People who followed the mainstream concepts of investing lost money to the tune of 7 trillion dollars. People who followed Edelman's advice over the last three years made money.

If you want the best financial advice, read Ric Edelman. His advice is right on.

Summary: Edelman's best book yet. Outstanding!
Review: The Truth About Money 3rd edition is more than just a updated version of the very best financial book ever written. It's almost like a totally new book.

Some many other authors out there just revise a few things and more or less put a new cover on an old book. Not Ric. This book is completely redone.

The Truth About Money is an easy read. It is informational, entertaining and enlightening. And it stands alone as a single source of financial information.

Want to know how to buy your first home, your next home and save on taxes when you sell. It's in here.

Want to get the facts on estate planning and long term care; learn how to protect yourself and your family? It's in here.

Want to learn the ABC's of investing; from annuities to zero coupon bonds, mutual funds to writing covered calls, go from owing money to owning money. Get out of debt and stay out of debt? It's in here.

And how about retirement. Do you want to learn the right steps that you need to take to reach the American Dream? Then read Ric Edelman's new book.

I considered myself pretty savvy on investing untill I took the 130 question money quizzes that Ric provides. I was surprised to find out how much I didn't know.

The Truth About Money is divided into 18 sections, 86 chapters and 625 pages. With all of that, you would think that this book would be a difficult read. Wrong. It is a delightful read. Ric is not only the most knowledgeable of financial authors, he is also one of the best writers in that he can take the most difficult subjects and make it fun and easy. No wonder his books have sold so well!

Ric is uniquely qualified to write on the subject of personal finance. Aside from earning the designations of CFS, RFC, CMFC, and QFP he was named by Research magazine as the #1 financial advisor in the nation for his focus on the individual client in 2003.

His firm Edelman Financial Services, Inc. has won more than 50 professional, business, community service and philanthropic awards and has been ranked twice by Bloomberg Wealth Manager as one of the largest independent financial planning and investment firms in the nation. The firm has created and implemented financial plans for more than 6,500 clients, and today Ric and his team manage $2 Billion for investors across the country.

If you want to buy just one book on personal finance, The Truth About Money should be that book. It is excellent. Everything you need to know about personal finance is in here.

5 stars is not enough. Amazon, you need to go back to 10 stars for this outstanding work by Edleman.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: Best comprehensive financial/investment resource book I have ever read. Simple, clear, funny examples and anecdotes to make concepts and points stick. An absolute resource to have in every home. Keep it next to your Bible. In fact, consider this the Bible on money.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: The "Truth about Money" is an encyclopedia of investment explanation. The chapter on trusts and insurance trust providing diagrams and narrative which were very helpful. Edelman cover the stock market trend, mutal funds, index funds, currency exchange, money markets, bonds, trusts, CD, banking, brokerage house, and many more subjects.

I wonder why Edelman decided to cover so many topics of investment. Perhaps, Edelman
wants to dispel myths in each investment category, perhaps he is looking for new clients, perhaps he just wanted to talk about every investment tool on the market. Its like reading technical information from a brokerage house. This book is for intermediate study of supply and demand of the free market. It took a quite a while to get through the book. I found some chapters more interesting than others.
The chapter on wealth accumulation was excellent. I created a few spreadsheets and analyzed his examples to see how money accumulates and the advantages of dollar cost averaging.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: I just picked up a copy of The Truth About Money 3rd edition. Edelman has outdone himslef. This book is superb. So much information.

Whether you want information on how to invest or what kind of insurance to by, it's in here.

Edelman may not be as well know as Suze Orman, but he is the best. He know his stuff. Speaks from experience and has the client base, successful clients that is that can back him up.

If you really want to make the most of your money then you must read this book. It is outstanding!

Summary: Excellent money management guide (now updated)
Review: This new edition of Ric Edelman's classic "The Truth About Money" is perhaps the most complete money management guide available today. Ric is fun to read. He is witty and very, very knowledgeable about personal finance. Edelman was one of the first, if not the first and the most vocal to warn about the forthcoming collapse of index funds a few years back. Note that his warning was in foresight, not hindsight ala so many other financial authors. Although he was widely criticized for taking his stand...the facts are...he was right on the money! In the Truth About Money 3rd edition, Ric Edelman has updated his classic best seller for the new millenium. This is, in my opinion the most complete and up to date personal finance book available right now.I would also recommend More Wealth Without Risk by Charles Givens and The Automatc Millionaire by David Bach. Suze Ormans 9 Steps to Financial Freedom is also excellent.Ric's prior book "Discover The Wealth Within You" is also a must read and goes deep into the mental aspects of financial success. Somewhat like Suze Orman only on a different level.Great book Ric. Thanks for sharing....again.
