Summary: A Classic
Review: This classic not only still rings true today, it is timeless enough that it is still thought provoking.

Maxwell Maltz lends a unique perspective to the success theory of visualization. He is a plastic surgeon and therefore experiences first hand the effect that a person's skewed self-image has on their physical reality as well as capability.

Summary: Bobbe Sommer's version was one star, Dan Kennedy is four...
Review: Bobbe Sommer should have left the original "Psychocybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz alone. But she had to go and rewrite it, first under the title "Psychocybernetics 2000" (which flopped) and then a re-release of the 2000 book under the name "Psychocybernetics",(which is now on the bargain table). How confusing!

But Dan Kennedy's version is not so much of a rewrite, it's more of an expansion. And he does a pretty good job. Of course, nothing can touch Maltz's original, but I don't think Kennedy is trying to do that. He frames the original book with today's ideas and experiences and then leaves the basic context of the original to speak for itself. The underlying theme of unconditional self-acceptance runs through the whole of the text.

If Maxwell Maltz were around today I am sure he would give a hearty thumbs-up to Dan Kennedy's version. But if he saw Bobbe Sommer's, I believe he would have to have a talk with her. If you buy this title, PLEASE make sure that you get Maltz'z original and then Dan Kennedy's. They complement each other very nicely and you will learn so much about yourself that you won't even believe it.

Summary: Psycho-cybernetics 2000. You make the call.
Review: I personally beleive with different pesonalities, characteristics, and backgrounds theres not one formula for everybody.I found this book to be a boring read,I had trouble with it keeping my attention. What's the use writing a book if it doesn't captures its audience? Another negative is gender, although I could care less someone else might not feel the same. I also found out from my personal experience, is when someone puchases a self improvement book they are looking for some kind of peace much like one that goes to a religous organization, so I take it serious when a book with such good principles in it has forgotten to basically motivate its reader into not wanting to put the book down until you know the book like you breathe. To sum it up, if you read regurly then get ready to soak up the knowledge, dissect it and study it as if you is takeing a class course the principles wiil work. In addittion you also may want to form a study group, or find some inspirational/motovational books and tapes because you may need them I know I did to keep me pumped to finish reading this book.I gave it 2 stars because of this but the choice is yours.

Summary: You truly do act as you think you are
Review: There's something out there that causes you to act the way you do. I couldn't figure out what that was until I stumbled upon this book about 4 years ago and I'm still reccomending it to everyone. Filed under the self-help category, I would rather find this book in the "Insights into why I act the way I do" section.

This book covers human behavior, making us realize that we act exactly as we think we are. Dr. Maltz, as a plastic surgeon, demonstrated that with his magic wand, he transformed people's lives by making them "look better" in their own eyes which are the only eyes that matter.

This book has definately made a huge impact on me as I read it just before attending college. I'm sure you remember those years where you had everything figured out.

This book doesn't fill you up with empty promises. It simply tells you what you've already known for a long time, but maybe you were too busy to take time to develop what kind of person you want to be.

Summary: Gives you the tools and ideas to get to the next level
Review: This book teaches you an effective way to look at and manage your emotions. His style is enthusiastic. I found everything he talks about rings true to me and I would have a hard time believing anyone not benefiting from the ideas in this book.

Summary: Psycho-Cybernetics 2000
Review: I read the original Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz in the early 70's. I read it again last month and then read Bobbe Sommer's version. I think the original is better. Maltz keeps it simple and focuses on the subconscious as the primary goal seeking mechanism. I thought Sommer's book diluted the message with cross messages from other self help techniques. Maltz's method works great. It's simple and effective. It's not a self help book, it's a book about reprogramming yourself. Sommer seems to turn the science into a self affirmation exercise.

Summary: THIS BOOK IS SO IMPRESSIVE!
Review: This book is so practical yet still inspirational!Maxwell Maltz's revelation that he could fix people's faces and they still felt inadequate and ugly led him to a study of how the mind works. His technique for change and acheivement is fascinating and works!

Summary: A Programming Manual for the Human Brain
Review: How many other books are still in print with a 1978 edition, even though newer editions are available?

Maxwell Maltz understood how we have something analogous to a computer inside our brains. Try manipulating a robot arm to pick something up -- you'll see how many steps are involved. But with our own arms, we can pick stuff up without thinking about it, because all the instructions are preprogrammed.

This programming affects our entire life. The self-esteem movement doesn't even begin to cover the power involved, even though self-esteem would be useless without it. Even Maltz's term of self-image is too tame.

You have been programmed since birth. Maybe it was done well, maybe not. In either case, you owe it to yourself to do your own reprogramming, setting the goals that are important to you. Psycho-Cybernetics will show you how.

Summary: You have a built-in spiritual thermostat ...
Review: Dr. Maltz teaches the self-image concept along with programming suggestions into the subconscious mind. Special points of interest: you must trust and believe in yourself, we need emotional and spiritual satisfaction, act as if..., cultivate the habit of happiness, tranquilizers erect a screen, you have a built-in spiritual thermostat, there is no conflict between science and religion. This is the best-seller that started me on my spiritual path over 30 years ago. It provoked a search for the meaning in life and cultivation of a close relationship with God.
