Summary: Another book I couldn't put down.
Review: Once again Patterson has proven that he can keep a reader on the edge of her seat and interested in every tiny detail he writes. I enjoyed stepping into the life of Dr. Alex Cross once again in the this next book in the Patterson series involving the sharp detective and criminal profiling skills of Dr. Cross. The way Patterson is able to bring so many dimensions of the character's life to the reader helps establish a relationship between the two. I like the fact that Patterson writes short chapters, moving quickly from one scene to another. Patterson has so many puzzel pieces scattered throughout his story that it amazes me how he always seems to bring everything together in the end. This is another great book by a great author.

Summary: among the best writers I have read
Review: This is my first novel by Mr. Paterson's and now I will read all of them. He has a very easy way with his words and chapter length. It enables you to read quickly and your attention peak to remain. He reminds me of John Sanfords style in putting you into the psychopath's mind and his inner thoughts. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Fast read with lots of action.
Review: James Patterson creates stories that make pages turn at a rapid pace.I thought the first half packed more punch as Alex Cross finally gets closure on the Gary Soneji case. Very intense and absolutely riveting. The second part where the hunt for "Mr. Smith" transpires up and down the East Coast is more oriented to the psychological aspects and gripping in its own right. I thought Gary Soneji to be a more loathsome villain than Mr. Smith. The other members of the police, FBI and Interpol that Alex Cross and his partner Sampson work with are believable and easy to cheer for. Putting the clues together that Mr. Smith has left after his crimes is great intellectual drama. The murders Mr. Smith commits are very gruesome. Their descriptions are very graphic and maybe a little over the top. Some suspension of disbelief is necessary. Overall a fine read. Another strong outing from Mr. Patterson. KVD

Review: I read the first book, Along Came a Spider, and was sure that the author couldnt beat that one. Well, I was wrong. The twists and turns in this novel will prevent you from doing anything but turning the pages. This book will keep your attention from the beginning to the end. Alex Cross is a multi-faceted, endearing character.

Review: A real heart-pounding book, I could not put it down till I turned the last page. I promise that if you liked, Along came a Spider, you will love, Cat & Mouse. You should also try Jack & Jill, or Kiss the Girls.

Summary: suspense? ....I don't think so
Review: Having read "Along came a spider" and "Kiss the girls" and quite liking the stories I expected something similar from "Cat and mouse". On the backcover it mentioned something along the lines of: "keeps the pedal down" and "white-knuckle twists" etc. Keeps the pedal down of what? A Mini maybe? Certainly not a Porsche, let alone a Ferrari. Each time the story promised to get going, Alex Cross met up with his girlfriend and for several pages Patterson writes about some meaningless dinner leading up to some romantic evening. In the end I coudn't be bothered anymore and skipped these chapters as they had absolutely nothing to do with Sonaji and the main story. Anyway is half the book filled with Cross's teacher girlfriend and his oh so perfect family, which makes the Waltons look like a bunch of nasties. Even the actual story about Sonaji was never exciting, knowing that the all so wonderful Alex Cross would chase him down eventually. To sum it up: this was by far the most boring, stupid dribble I've ever read and in future I will stay well clear of Patterson and instead stick to something like Ellroy or Connelly or Klavan. Why did I finish this book? Maybe I expected some surprise ending, which of course wasn't to happen. One point still is way too much for this yawn. Minus five would be more just.

I almost did not want this book to end but all good things must come to an end... He keeps you suspended and the details he gives make you wonder if you saw the movie or read the book...

Review: Alex Cross, James Patterson's returning character, is truly one today's greatest, most well developed 'hero' found in print! In Cat and Mouse, Cross's fourth book, the reader is sent on a roller coaster ride of plot twists all written in an almost groundbreaking 'change of perspective' style. Live the unfolding mystery through Alex Cross's eyes and others around him as they interact with one another in an attempt to stop the returning villian from Patterson's previous book Along Came a Spider-Gary Soneji. Or is it someone else? In this book Patterson has topped himself once again concerning the 'fleshing out' of his star Alex Cross. The interaction between the detective and those around him such as his children, mother and love interest creates a spellbinding atmosphere that is rarely achieved in today's 'suspense' books. But therein is only one of the author's strengths, the storyline is presented in a unique and captivating way, with a seemingly unbelievable twist occurring halfway through instead of at the end. Lastly, don't be misled by my harping on the merits of this book's character interaction. Its greatest asset is the mystery villian, and Alex Cross's attempts at identifying him/her. *Previous book alert* I suggest you read the first three Alex Cross books in this order:Along Came a Spider,Kiss the Girls, and Jack and Jill. (at the very least Along..) before reading Cat and Mouse.

Summary: A Great Hunt
Review: I found this book to be engrossing and exciting, a real pageturner. James Patterson keeps his action short (in chapters), but effective. The blending and crossover of stories and characters was extemely well done, never losing the thread of the plot, and never having the reader saying, "What's happening here?" Highly recommended for anyone who likes fast-paced, physcological thriller fiction.
