Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Interesting and well documented
Review: Unlike most writers on this topic, Goldberg is an admitted liberal who is betraying his own friends and colleagues. He doesn't claim that the media is biased to the left simply because they are all Democrats. And he doesn't say they're conservative simply because they're run by corporations who by their very nature MUST be conservative (like Ted Turner, that well-know conservative). Goldberg points out subtle treatments by the major media that we have all personally seen in public news broadcasts but may not have always noticed. His points are backed by facts, and he gives interesting perspective and insight as a life-long media insider. Those who never really understood what conservatives meant by "liberal bias" in the news will never watch a broadcast by Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw or Peter Jennings the same way again.

If you're a firm believer in the "vast right-wing conspiracy," don't waste your money on this book. While most of the evidence in the book is indisputable, people of that mindset probably will not enjoy this book. Anyone who uses the label "progressive" instead of "liberal" will also be better off spending their money on something else.

Summary: So good, there's no need to even read it!
Review: This book is great because it tells me exactly what I want to hear! This book confirms everything I already believe, and I just love that! If this book did not conform to my deeply cherished beliefs it would just upset and confuse me. I know exactly what's in this book because Rush and Fox News told me already; I think I will just buy a bunch of copies and not bother to read them. There's really no need! Thanks, Bernard Goldberg and Regnery Press, for telling me what I want to hear and making me feel smart.

Summary: EXCELLENT
Review: Wow - someone on the inside with the guts to admit what seems obvious to everyone else. This guy blows the lid off smarmy high-brows like Jennings and Rather. Very well written. This book sort of reinforces what I've thought for a while about the big 3 networks (You can't, however, say that FOX dosn't lean to the right. But hell, they aren't really pretending to do otherwise!) Get this book. It's good.

Summary: Great book a reall eye opener
Review: This book is a well written and eye opening look into the media. He goes over media bias in several areas: Politics, Liberal Hate Speech, AIDS misinformation and many other poignant areas. It shows the truth about the issues the media tries to push on people. The book is very well written and I would hardly say is has anything close to a Republican bent or outlook as I've seen some reviews claim. I recommend it to any thinking individual. I'm not a Democrat or a Republican. Rush Limbaugh is just as much a windbag as the liberal news media is. I'm tried of hearing the Democrats and Republicans talking to the American public like there idiots. They bring up things like abortion and religion other useless other political arguments in order to keep people from stopping them from raping American blindly or rights and there money. These are useless topics used to divert Americans from things that truly affect Americans. I'm sure all those people in NY city and unemployment now are truly worried about either of those subjects right now. The truth is America is a free country that means you have the freedom to be religious and have an abortion or not do either of those things. I hope people see this and some people some where start a third political party that has sane middle of the road ideas just like most of the American's really are. These political idiots just play American's like world class con-artist's. Thanks for reading my rant at any rate if you made it all the way down here.

Summary: Not About Liberal Bias- It's Elitist Bias
Review: I read somewhere that if you watch sausage being made; you may never eat it again. In this case, you'll lose your appetite for the media as Goldberg exposes to some of the backroom contrivances of media elites.

Goldberg covers the obvious that media elites have a "liberal bias so blatantly true that it is hardly worth discussing", "it come naturally to most reporters", "we often sound more like flacks for liberal causes than objective journalists". Goldberg recounts a discussion with Andrew Heyward of CBS "of course there is a liberal bias to the news. All the networks tilt left...the whole (...)world knows it. If you repeat any of this, I'll deny it". But, this is old news.

Goldberg adds to the conversation by bringing in gossip and perspective of a previous insider. However, below the surface you find another theme, that of the Media Elites. The real bias is elitism. Only they, the Media Elite, live correct lives in correct communities with correct people. From Mount Olympus, they can see what we mere mortals cannot. The media must unfortunately must sell their wares to trailer trash in the fly by zone. The masses must be told what to think since the masses do not have the advantage of a fine education, keen insights and a thoughtful perspective on the issues.

This bias is ingrained. It's not about being liberal; it's simply about being correct. "Liberals are reasonable not liberal". The news is correct. If you have a differing view you are obviously part of the uneducated masses or you're a conservative nut. "God forbid someone in their diverse news room has a diverse view".

However, the Olympians have their spiritual guides. As Goldberg notes, "So many TV journalist simply don't know what to think about certain issue until the New York Times and Washington Post tell them what to think".

You find an undercurrent of sadness in Goldberg as you see young enthusiastic journalists forced to face the reality; it is not about journalism, truth, nor justice, but supporting the elitist system. There's no room for diverse views in this business. If you're an idealist, the mainstream media is not for you.

It is disconcerting when you realize your "news source" is really part of a mega corporation: NBC (General Electric), ABC (Disney), CBS (Viacom - Paramount, Simon& Schuster, etc), AOL/Time/Warner, Sony etc. Of course they can be objective. Will you ever see an expose on Disney goods made in 3rd world countries or GE product failures? Elites don't expose elites. It would be bad form, old man.

The media elites will sell out or exploit a cause in order to achieve ratings. The media elites are also very pragmatic. It is not about causes, but about their personal fame and financial gain. Do whatever it takes to get the ratings and advertising revenues. "There is not greater sin than to bore the audience". Goldberg provides several key examples of blatantly selling out "liberal causes" to protect or drive ratings. For the media elites, a cause is very transitory and pragmatic. Does it buy ratings or help their agenda at that point in time?

An interesting example was provided in the coverage of the homeless. It is clear from the news that Regan created the homeless. Clinton completely solved the issue his first office, homelessness ceased, and there were no more stories. The day Bush came to office, the homeless were back on the streets. Just watch you TV. The question is: is the cause of the homeless really being served or is the homeless news story being for other causes? Do you really think Dan cares about the homeless when he finds it okay not to talk about them during the 8 Clinton years?

Goldberg provides some insights into "The Dan" but does so with velvet gloves. He does not mention the Democratic fundraiser events, crying over the election of Regan, temper tantrums, etc. Most of the low fruit is left hanging. He does note, "The Dan builds a fortress of fear", "Everyone is afraid of crossing The Dan", "The Dan didn't tolerate dissent". Where is Connie Chung? The Dan felt threatened by a competent reporter and poof, she's gone.

Finally, it is fascinating to watch the predicted reaction to the book. Goldberg knew the Media would pull a page directly from the operating manual and "make Goldberg the issue". "Do not address the issue". "The media elites are circling the wagons". "Striking similarities between the media and the mafia - loyalty to the family (elite inner circle), not about truth and justice", "Crush anyone who gets in their way". This sounds like an open honest exchange of ideas.

Well, time to log off my AOL account, get a Sausage McMuffin, a Coke, hop in my Lazy Boy, and watch the Sunday Morning news shows on my Sony TV so that I will have better insights for the week to come.

Summary: This should be under "fiction"
Review: Citing ancient and vague examples, Goldberg joins the shrill right in a chorus of half-truths. After harshly criticizing CBS in an editorial, he is protected by his superior at CBS--kept on the payroll so he will have better retirment benefits and then turns around and stabs the guy in the back. I never trust a person without loyalty.

Someone refered to Gary Bauer in a derogatory manner during a phone conference? Was the term broadcast? No. This is what is called "freedom of speech".

"Liberal press bias" has become a mantra of the ditto heads with no real concrete proof to base the accusation on--Goldberg has fabricated the "truth" for them. When in the last few years did the "liberal press" cut Clinton a break? When are they going to start using that "liberal slant" against Bush?

If you want to see biased news, watch Fox. I'm sure Goldberg will join that team in the very near future.

The right wing will love this fairy tale and reward Goldberg for falling lockstep into place with them.

Summary: WILL YOU KNOW THE TRUTH WHEN FACED WITH IT?
Review: Oh boy..one critic/reader(who wouldn't divulge his or her name)who rates this book 1 star (he is very generous he says)and talks about "perpetuates the myth...". Here is an excellent example of not knowing the truth when confronted with it. Source material after source material is given to prove points and Mr./Mrs. no name simply ignores them.

This is an eye-opening book filled with innumerable examples of how and why the media, especially tv, is 90% slanted toward the left in a major way. It is interesting/funny/tragic how Dan Rather reiterates of what a politically neutral guy he is and then tries to terminate ANYONE who disagrees with him.

If you can stand the truth...read this book. Don't go into the kitchen if you can't stand the heat!

Summary: Anti-conservative Hate
Review: If you notice, the majority of the people who gave this book negative reviews couldn't help but sling around the "conservative" label. Then most of them kindly point out that there is a conservative bias in radio, so what's the problem? Well, Conservative Talk Shows like Rush Limbaugh or Neal Boortz or even the O'Reilly Factor are not news programs. They are political and social commentary. They are about opinions and interpretations of news events.

News on the other hand is not about opinion and commentary. News is about what is happening. It is supposed to be about facts. Television news should especially be about "just the facts" because that is where the majority of the people get their information. If television news is bias, what will most of the people get?

Everyone has the right to his or her own opinion, but that opinion should not be confused with fact. There should be NO bias in news. That is what Bernard Goldberg is after.

Summary: I HAD NO IDEA !!!
Review: I HAD NO IDEA a liberal could write so much TRUTH! Isn't that against their rules? Guess that's why he's gotten in so much trouble with the Left lately.

And he's done it with such wit! A truly enjoyable page-turner!

You will certainly learn something new in this book, even if you are already well-versed in the knowledge of liberal propaganda.

It's what the Media Research Center (...) has been proving all along...
