Summary: Undeniably Important
Review: Goldberg's premise is obvious to almost anyone with eyes and ears, but he is the first liberal writer with the courage to break ranks and shed some light on what really goes on in the network news. Liberalism is wonderful, but not if it is presented as objectivity and used to manipulate less critical thinkers into believing the world is different than it really is. I applaud Goldberg for standing up and making a difference, when there was more to lose than to gain by doing so. It is vitally important to open the discussion on how and why a political group that prides itself on inclusion and open discourse can corner the market on what issues can be discussed on network TV, which opinions can be heard, and how holders of such opinions are to be portrayed. The reason that 90% of the attacks on Goldberg are of a personal nature is because it is intellectually dishonest to argue with the substance. His case is compelling, and those who say he lacks evidence have simply not read the book. Read it.

Review: This book in a few sentences: It's fair to say the media is biased; It's biased TOWARDS the RIGHT! A short look through Manufacturing Consent (by Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky) will do to this book as science has done to God.

Summary: Not a true Republican!
Review: Bernard Goldberg makes about as much sense as Sean Hannity. If you want to read a book by a disgruntled ex-employee, a book that will satisfy your heavy right-wing conservative convictions; this is the book for you. Two of the three largest networks on cable are owned and run by Republican conservatives -
Fox News Channel, MSnbc. The type face in the book is large. He has no structure with his argument. The criticism of John McCain, JFK, Howard Zinn, Ralph Nader, the film "The Big One", Bill Moyers come up often in the book.
In one part he tells people to go to there local book store and rip the covers off Ralph Nader's book "Crashing the Party". Not worth your time.

Summary: Anecdotal??
Review: People..people...people...Bernard Goldberg is not some Pat Buchanan wacko, and this book is not a diatribe against liberalism. It was simply a very interesting book, written, I thought, by a keen observer who began his career with no special ax to grind. The book honestly describes what he saw from within the network news organizations.
However, the ratings and reactions within this review format are as interesting as the book. The "a" word (anecdotal) receives a lot of focus. Yes, the book uses anecdotal examples to substantiate Goldberg's contention that the media is biased. But short of making Rather, Brokaw and Jennings raise their right hands and swear to the following: "...we hereby affirm and attest to the fact that we are liberal news broadcasters, who consistently vote democratic and spin the news to the left...", how else would you do it??
Follow me for a moment:
A long suffering wife goes to a lawyer seeking a divorce from her miserable, cheating husband. She sits across from the lawyer, leans forward in her chair, and wipes tears from her sad, drawn face.
"You see," she says, "I saw him. Twice! He was coming out of the Resteasy Motel with Trisha Yeats. Trisha used to be my best friend," she adds in a quiet voice.
Her lawyer leans back in her chair, pulls back a lock of fallen hair, and steeples her fingers, just brushing her pursed lips. After a long moment she says, "I'm sorry, but that's just too anecdotal. Don't you have anything else?"

Summary: Right on the money!!!
Review: Bernard Goldberg is a man of great courage and integrity, and the MEDIA ELITE attempted to punish him for it. Who's laughing now? There should be college courses in journalism about this book. Bernie is right on the money with his assessment of today's liberal slant in the media. What makes this book completely believable is the fact Bernard Goldberg is a fair,respected veteran Broadcast Journalist. Also, He's not a Republican and he's not a "Right Wing" conservative NUT. After reading this book, You'll never give any credibility to a news broadcast story without hearing both sides of the argument equally. Like any other job in America, where we're told to leave our "personal buisness" at HOME, Journalist's should leave their biased polictical and social opinions their TOO. Thanks for blowing the whistle Bernie!

Summary: Lack of Intelligence in the Review Section
Review: To the reader from Elmhurst, NY who posted a review below. You display the same kind of bias that infects the media. Your argument that Goldberg contradicts himself by pointing out that some conservatives also disliked Forbes' flat tax plan completely misses the point. Conservative politicians who disagree with the plan have every right, and should, express their views. But a CBS News correspondent who is supposedly doing an unbiased story that is intended to give viewers the information they need to make up their own minds should NOT be expressing his opinion. It was not supposed to be an editorial. He calls the flat tax plan "wacky" and a "scheme" under the guise of offering fair and objective reporting. That, for those like you out there who lack the intelligence and objectivity to recognize, is liberal BIAS. And to the reader from Athens, GA who states, "The media are as liberal as the conservative companies that own them. Any Questions?", since when is Hollywood conservative? What a moron.

Summary: It Just Doesn't Work
Review: I was somewhat surprised that this book received a positive review anywhere of any sort. Mr. Goldberg obviously has a point of view and some points to make, despite his lack of tact and evidence to support either. I support fully Mr. Goldberg's "right" to make allegations and present "his" and some others' view of the world. Neither this, nor Mr. Goldberg's wishing, will make what's in this book accurate, correct, or enlightening. I suggest we treat Mr. Goldberg's book for what it is -- either a good fantasy novel or normal paranoia just a little out of control. In either case, what he "reports" in this book is not either good journalism or a basis for sound public policy. I confess, however, that I am somewhat disappointed by Mr. Goldberg's decision to even write such a book. My worst fear is that the book is merely Mr. Goldberg's effort to "get even" with a television journalism community that in some way he believes treated him unfairly. If that is the case, then this book is worthless and should be treated as such. ...
