Summary: a liberal joins the reviews
Review: Though I'm a liberal, I agree with the bias that exists withing our media. Goldberg is a perfect source to find out about this on account of his 28 years working for CBS. Goldberg deals with important issues such as how the news media can focus in on certain issues depending on who is president such as the case with homelessness and how the media can misrepresent issues such as AIDS. There are important issues that are not covered that he discusses in the chapter the most important story you never say on TV about the efects of the breakdown of the family. The media reports on it such as the rise teenage sex, rise of sexual abuse and falling academic acheivement but fails to connect the dots as Goldberg puts to find the root of these problems. In addition, Golberg does something that Ann Coulter does in her book, Slander, about how the media demonizes the right while not doing so to the left. Overall, Bias does paint a better picture of what the media is all about.

Summary: Insider's Profound Look At Media Bias
Review: Bernard Goldberg is not a card carrying member of the vast right-wing conspiracy, but rather, a thoughtful, liberal reporter who is passionately concerned about accuracy in the media. His small tome "Bias" is an excellent overview as to how television news - indeed, much of the mainstream press too - reports current events subconsciously with a pronunced left-wing bias. Goldberg's scathing reviews of press coverage of AIDS and homeless - to name but a few of the issues he looks at under his journalistic microscope - should not be ignored by anyone who is seriously interested in accurate news reporting. Indeed, "Bias" ought to be viewed as a clarion call to those in the media worried about rarity of objective news reporting.

Summary: Good but a little repetative
Review: I found Mr. Goldberg's book very interesting but a little repetative. It is clear that the behind the scenes environment at the evening news programs is very competative and that if one dares to challenge the status quo, you put your career at great risk. Mr. Goldberg did just that and has paid for it dearly. People like Dan Rather who elevate the wistle blowers of major companies, take great offense when it happens to them. I found at times that Mr. Goldberg tends to repeat himself through the book but it is relatively rare and a minor issue.

Review: Like a breath of fresh air- this book by CBS News veteran Bernard Goldberg conclusively shows a pattern of subconscious bias by the mainly liberal members of the network news establishment. A must-read.

Summary: Please! Give Us Solutions.
Review: I hate all the biased, unconstructive comments and reviews by readers. That gets us NOWHERE! Please! Give us intellignt, constructive suggestions that are solutions to the dilemma we find ourselves in today in our Country where many meticulously adher to a philosophy of absolutism when it comes to freedom of the press, but shun absolutism in favor of a philosophy of relativism when it comes to lieing, cheating, and right-and-wrong. It's both a crisis of confidence in which some just do not believe the media anymore and a confidence congame in which others are conned into believing everything the media says is factual. As a journalist, I liked one of the few constructive suggestions made by a reader that we look into a self-policing honor system like the one described in the book by Norman Thomas Remick, "West Point: Character Leadership...." that I found to be a metaphor for America ---- the way it ought to be. Some sort of self monotoring system is certainly well worth looking into. Maybe you have another suggestion?

Summary: Not Just Sour Grapes
Review: Goldberg brings to light the fact that the talking heads at the major networks do not even realize what they're doing. They have been conditioned themselves to believe that the country feels the same way they do about social and political policies. That's how out of touch they are, with their six figure salaries and their fancy brunches on the upper East side of Manhattan. "Forgive them - for they know not what they do."

Review: It is very interesting that those who most rely on our first amendment rights abuse them regarding their own employees--and this is bad for all of us, since in this way the networks subtly influence our thinking. Bernard Goldberg carefully and entertainingly documents how the media (primarily CBS, ABC, and NBC) add "spin" to much of the information they report. (You will discover some surprises here.) Of course, the book also documents the pressure applied to media employees who may seek to report something that deviates from the "party line." This is a great book and an easy read--even for those who are not on top of every social issue. Highly recommended.

Summary: You can't fool me Goldberg
Review: How is it that for years I heard every right wing morsal of gossip and Goldberg claims none of it was covered. Did I miss the news the last few years? Did we not have numerous investigations and an impeachment trial? Were they not covered by all the networks, papers and magazines thoroughly? What Goldberg is really saying is no one will take his political beliefs seriously enough. Now that may be the case. I countyer that Journalists can and often do make mistakes like treating Joe McCarthyism as news.
