Rating: Summary: Who might Be??? Review: With the first phone call Gail O'Connor received, her fear began mysteriously. An anonymous voice on the other line threatened to kill her.
From the beginning this book keeps you awake. The mystery begins from the first page. I'm in the middle of the book and so far I have no idea who the killer might be! Gail O'Connor is an attorney in Miami. Gail is fighting for the custody of her daughter Karen, and Gail's lovely fiancee Anthony Quintana is going through family problems.
Two monthes before Gail and Anthony's wedding everything started to go wrong. I'm wondering who wants to kill Gail. So far this looks like a revenge
Rating: Summary: This book starts off well but the ending is flat. Review: "Suspicion of Betrayal" gets off to a good, if somewhat conventional start, with (something new!) a spunky female lawyer who is in trouble. She's got a precocious daughter, a troublesome ex-husband, some threatening phone calls and a hot-blooded and overbearing Cuban fiance. Boy, does she have her hands full! Parker juggles all this well enough for a while. Unfortunately, as happens all too often in this genre, the ending falls flat. Parker introduces a stock psychopathic character as well as a "Perils of Pauline" situation. Will the spunky heroine survive? Well, duh! The ending doesn't satisfy and the solution to the mystery isn't terribly enthralling. Parker has talent, but she has to nail the ending to get top marks for her novels.
Rating: Summary: Gail Connor proves there is more than one Parker Review: It started with a crank phone caller calmly informing litigating lawyer Gail Connor that he plans to kill her. Gail didn't think much of the disturbance, figuring it was the teenager next door, who she threw out of her yard that same night. Besides Gail has more pressing concerns. Her new home needs so many repairs the Red Cross would declare it a disaster area. Her ex-husband Dave, who deserted her and their daughter to go sailing in the Caribbean, suddenly wants custody. Her eleven-year old daughter Karen seems to not only be growing up too fast, but is also very confused because of the animosity going on with her parents with her in the middle. Finally, Gail plans to marry her new love Anthony Pedrosa. However, the phone call turns out to be just the start of a horrible nightmare. Someone, with insider knowledge, is raising the level of terrorism. He now stalks Karen with motives that may be unclear but obviously malevolent. Gail knows that she will risk her life and her happiness to insure her beloved child remains safe. Barbara Parker has already gained much acclaim for her legal thrillers, starring Gail Connor. However, the latest entry, SUSPICION OF BETRAYAL, is her best novel to date because the story line comes at the reader from three different but integrated levels. The look into the justice system is complex and intriguing. The glimpse into Gail's personal life adds dimension and humanization. The stalker provides entertaining action. All three roll together into a well designed plot that will make readers realize that there are two fabulous mystery writers named Parker are providing superb stories. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Suspicion of Betrayal Review: After reading all of Barbara'sbooks, and thoroughlly enjoying getting to know andlove Gail and Anthony, I wastruly dissapointed with thisone. The story itself was goodbut I was totally rocked withher ending. I actually wroteBarbara a letter and she didresond to it! Gail and Anthonyare both strong willed and independent and for those of you who have not read about them please assured that theyhave overcome different obstacles in life and for those of you who have enjoyedher in the past as much as I have, be aware that Barbara will bring them both back. Thank Goodness!
Rating: Summary: Good book but the end leave you hanging... Review: Barbara Paker, makes Miami and the Cuban community come alive, however the ending leave you with a lot of questions. Let hope she continues the story line in her next book.
Rating: Summary: Bring Back Anthony! Review: For a smart woman Gail isn't always too bright but it's nice to have a strong female character instead of a wimp. The characters are well developed. But please, bring Anthony back! The chemistry between Gail and Anthony adds to the enjoyment of the plot.
Rating: Summary: A great suspense novel Review: From the first page to the last, this was a real suspense book. Without giving too much of the story away, it's about a high-class lawyer who lives alone with her daughter. She then started to get these weird and threatening phone calls, which then turned into things that were far more serious. As the story goes on, twists and turns await the reader, and blood is spilled and fingers are pointed. There isn't much else to say about this book other than the fact that Barbara Parker is a genious when it comes to writing suspense novels. Be sure to check out her other novels!
Rating: Summary: Connor And Quintana Are Back In Ms. Parker's Best To Date!! Review: Gail Connor, successful litigation attorney and single Mom is back along with daughter Karen, ex-husband Dave, and hunky fiance Anthony Quintana with a suspense thriller that will keep you up reading way past bedtime. Gail, as always, is trying to juggle motherhood, her career, and her relationship with Quintana, a Cuban American defense attorney, and frequently comes up short. With her marriage only weeks away, a new house to be renovated, a troubled adolescent daughter, and an ex-husband who is battling her for custody of their child, she has more on her hands than usual. She is presently working on a difficult divorce case involving a millionaire, who pleads poor, and his abused wife. Then Gail receives a chilling anonymous phone call threatening her life. The call is repeated and her car is vandalized. Next, and most frightening, her daughter's life is threatened. Gail panics. If all this isn't enough to stress her out completely, she begins to suspect Anthony of shady dealings with organized crime. Barbara Parker is at her best with this fourth novel in the Gail Connor series. Along with the chilling mystery she delivers intelligent insight into the Miami Cuban American community, both cultural and political. It is not necessary to read the other books in the series to appreciate and enjoy this one. I have read all four novels, in order, and am more addicted to the stories of the lives of the main characters, and their development, than to the mysteries. The characters are some of the most original, realistic and compelling that I have discovered in light fiction. Ms. Parker's people are not always nice, and the friction in their relationships is familiar, refreshing and on target. I highly recommend this book, as well as the other "Suspicion of..." novels. Rating: Summary: Is Suspicion of Betrayal the end? Review: I admit to leaving the relationship between Gail and Anthony up in the air at the end of "Betrayal," but they'll be back in "Malice." Will Gail forgive him? Should she?
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but formulaic and obvious Review: I found this installment of the series an entertaining read, but Parker's "write by numbers" method is wearing thin. In the three volumes of the series I've read (Guilt, Deceit, and now Betrayal), the villain is described in roughly the same fashion and plays virtually the same role in the development of the plot; in Betrayal, Parker's initial description of the character made it a shamefully easy task to identify the stalker. In addition, the manner of the climax of the "mystery" seemed awfully familiar, making me wonder if Parker knows of any other way to reveal the identity of the villain. I wish Parker would write more challenging stories; the regular characters are compelling, but the plots leave a lot to be desired.
