Rating: Summary: The Seven Songs of Merlin Review: The Seven Songs of Merlin is an excellent book written by T.A Barron. When I started this book it kept climbing to excitement throughout the book. It took me three days to read this book because it was so entertaining. The Seven Songs of Merlin is about a young wizard who brought back his mother from the dead. But soon an evil nemesis poisoned Merlin's mother with magic. In one week she will die, but Merlin has one chance in saving her. He has to find the Elixer. Now he must wonder into the lands of Fincayra discovering songs along the way that will help him through his journey. But the Elixer that a wizard owns is very distant. Will young Merlin collect all the songs and get the Elixer from Dagda the wizard in less than a week? Also tomake matters worse Merlin has to face Rhita Gawr an evil wizard and a cyclops that killed Merlin's grandfather who was the greatest wizard of all time. Will Merlin succeed? Who knows until you read this greatbook.
Rating: Summary: BEST IN THE SERIES Review: The seven songs of merlin is by far the best book in the series. The story is about a boy who travled away to a island away from his mother and hometown (this happens in the first book). He ends up on the magical island of Fincayra. In the begining of the book he searches for a magical shell which he uses to transport his mother onto the island. A couple hugs and kisses later the mother smells a posionus flower which will kill her after one cycle of the moon. To get a potion to cure her he must "master" seven songs which the answers to are scattered over the (really big) island. When (and if) he dose this he must kill a cyclops, and find his way to a well which will take you to the under world. If he can somehow get there he must find the god dagda get the potion and get accross the (very big) island to his mother to give her the potion. This is also the most important because this is the book where merlin (without reall knowing it) gains all his powers that will help him greatly in the future. THis is a fascinating and very exciting book that will be a classic for years to come. This book will not make sence if you don't read the first one first. The series is better than the Harry Potter series and is even better if you read them in order, it will make more sence, it will be more exciting, and will have more suspence and won't be quite as counfusing. I flipflopped this one and the fourth one and some of the things said in the fourth one made no sence. Once i read this one everything just came all together in my mind when I finished it. This whole series is a must have for your collection and will be loved for ever.
Rating: Summary: The Wizard's Songs Review: The Wizard's Songs By: T.A. Barron This book the "The Seven Songs of Merlin" is the sequel to the first book, "The Lost Years of Merlin". This book is about a boy, 13 years old, named Merlin and his quest to save his mother. He needs to find the seven wizard's songs before he can go up against Balor, the guard of the door to the Otherworld. He has to find the songs in this order, starting with, Changing, Binding, Protecting, Naming, Leaping, Eliminating, and Seeing. After he finds those then he will have to defeat Balor and go to the Otherworld where Dagda will give Merlin the elixir to save his mother. First he goes to where the treelings used the live, and he finds out that Changing is when all living things, have the potential to change. Next, he goes to the Lake of Face where he finds out that Binding is that the strongest bonds are of the heart. Third, he goes to the tunnels where the dwarves live, where he finds out that Protecting is when something is to be set free. Fourth, he goes to Slantos where he finds out that Naming is, for a true name holds true power. Fifth, he goes to Varigal where he finds out that Leaping is that everything is connected to everything else. Sixth, he goes to the sleeping dragon's lair where he finds out that Eliminating is that everything is precious somehow. Now, all Merlin had to do was go to the Forgotten Island to get the Seventh song, Seeing, but he thought that he wouldn't have much time because he only had one lunar month to begin with and he was on his last day so he decided to go to where Balor was, with Rhia and Bumblewy, his friends that were with him during the whole trek. When he got to the great gorge where Balor was, he told his friends to stay behind. When he went to the gorge he saw Balor and Merlin know not the look into Balor's one eye because that would kill him instantly. Before Merlin knew it he and Balor were fighting, swords clashing. Then Merlin tripped over a rock and Balor was about to bring down his sword over Merlin but Rhia jumped out of nowhere and threw herself at the ogre. Balor got mad and got her from her grasp and threw her at the rocks. Then, Balor picked up Merlin by the neck and..........................If you want to know what happens next, you should read the book. I thought the book was GREAT! The first book was also good too but, the second one is better. The second one was better because it had more action in it and also Merlin was a bit more experienced with his magic, which made it more interesting. Any fiction or fantasy book lover should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book, good read Review: This book is a great fantasy book, good enough to rival LOTR and Harry Potter. When you read this book it takes you away to places that you never thought that you would go. It is a great sequel to the first book the Lost Years series. In this book Merlin even comes up with the mysterious sword Excalibur. He doesnt say that he does but the clues hint to the name. If you liked Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings you will definetly love the Series The Lost Years of Merlin. T.A. Barron-PROPS
Rating: Summary: Greatest fantasy book ever!!!!!!!! Review: This book is soooo good!!! I recommend it to any one who likes fantasy or is interested in Merlin the wizard! It's about Merlin when he's only 13 years old. He has to search for the seven, magical, songs so that he can get an elixer to save his mother, who will die in a month from a terrible illness. He searches with his friend(and sister)Rhia...It was so exciting I couldn't put it down! You have to read this book!
Rating: Summary: how about 4 3/4 stars? Review: This book was great. It was an easy read, w/ answers of the past about Merlin's family, and it's form was great. The seven songs, that Merlin himself has to decipher, seem so real, as if, maybe, they do exist. I think that the brave hero is finding a home in all our hearts as we read these books, and I can't wait for the next one!
Rating: Summary: Awesome Fantastay Novel!!! Review: This is a GREAT book for anyone interested in the world of magic. The book is the second in a wonderful series based on the young years of Merlin. Rating: Summary: The second story of an incredible epic Review: This is the second book in The Lost Years of Merlin series. In this book, Merlin has been entrusted with the Flowering Harp, which can bring life to the dead lands that had been destroyed earlier. Merlin, in a fit of Hubris, shirks his duty and brings his mother to the island of Fincayra, a place she had left years ago. But upon her arrival, she is struck by a dark magic that will kill her in thirty days, unless Merlin can master the seven songs of wizardry and journey to the overworld. This book was a little bit of a disappointment for me, for the characters, but was as good as the others in the series. The main grip for the series is Merlin in the beginning. He was acting very, very dumb. He flaunted his power and as a result, brought his mother to near death. This is a very typical thing for a hero to do, and because he heard many greek stories, I would have guessed that he would have known better. Other than that, the story was excellent. The neat thing is the songs. Reading them, I realized that they have a consiterable relevence to 'real' life. This is another good character changing story. Barron takes us slowly as Merlin is brought down a bit after learning some things about friendship, all the way to mastering the songs and becoming all the wiser for it. The Merlin in the beginning is different from the Merlin in the end. The plot line about the two gods, good and evil, struggling for power is in a little more clearer focus now. Merlin actually talks with them in the story. Lastly, we get to see more of Fincayra's residents, and more of the island.
Rating: Summary: A younger Merlin Review: This magnificent story is after the Lost Years of Merlin. It all begins when there is a council on who should own the treasures of Fincayra. Surprising even himself, 13-year old Merlin obtains the Flowering Harp, an instrument that brings forth the spring anywhere it is played. With the treasure, Merlin accepts a mission to rekindle the life in the Dark Hills, before the spirit Rhita Gawr could ever come back. After a breif visit with his friends though, Merlin abandons his quest to bring his mother to Fincayra. When he does so, an illness strikes at her, one sent from Rhita Gawr himself. Now, acompanied by two friends, Merlin must master the Seven Songs of Wisedom in order to save his mother. If he does manage to master all seven songs though, he still has to find the Otherworld Well and travel to the Otherworld to retrive the cure from the great spirit Dagda. All this must be done within one month or else his mother will die and adding to his problems, an Ogre guards the Otherworld Well, an Ogre who managed to defeat Merlin's grandfather the greatest wizard known so far. I found this book with no fault except that it all seems a bit too immense a first.
