Summary: Gotta Read this book
Review: A few things I liked about this book were the magic, the action, and the regular storyline. Other books that were written by the same author were The Lost Years of Merlin, The Fires of Merlin, The Mirror of Merlin, and The Wings of Merlin. I think The Lost Years of Merlin is the best. Anybody who likes the Harry Potter books would probably like this book.

Summary: Loved it from start to finish
Review: A Review by Elizabeth
Here Merlin is again in book two of The Lost Years of Merlin trilodgy. He now has the task to bring life back to the land of Fincayra. He soon vearse of course. He Misses his mother. He is soon reunighted with his mother. But his happieness doesn't last long. His mother is stricken ill by a poisoness flower. Now Merlin has to travel to the other world to find the cure for his mother.

I loved the way Barron Mixed Celtic lore to his own version of the Merlin legend. Barron based his book during the years merlin was missing form history (when he was a kid). I love Barron's unique writeing style. He is very descriptive in the way he writes. He created a wonderful magical place full of mystical creatures. I personally love these kinds of storys. I loved this book from start to finish. I recommend reading the first book in the serese first. If you like Harry Potter you will love this book.

Review: a very emotional book filled with magic, love, hate, and power

Summary: Wonderful in every way
Review: A worthy sequel to the "Lost Years of Merlin," the second book of this five-book classic cycle. TA Barron does not suffer from sequelitis, remaining fresh and original as ever.

Merlin's ego begins to blow out of proportion in "The Seven Songs of Merlin." The blossoming wizard is entrusted with repairing the damage wrought by Rhita Gawr, a demonic creature who had ruled and ruined parts of the land, by using the magical Flowering Harp. But he chooses to neglect the duty assigned to him, in favor of attempting to bring his mother to Fincayra, the enchanted isle.

But his use of power attracts the attention of Rhita Gawr, who send a fatal "death shadow" after him, that attacks Elen, his mother, rather than Merlin himself. Merlin is told that she has exactly a month to live, and that they must find the nature spirit-god Dagda to cure her. But only one mortal has ever found his way into the Otherworld: Merlin's long-dead grandfather, Tuatha.

In a very st!irring and chilling scene, the long-dead wizard Tuatha speaks to Merlin and informs him that he must master the Seven Songs before he can meet Dagda and heal Elen. Desperate to save her, Merlin sets off to accomplish his mission within a month. Along the way, Merlin is accompanied by the forest girl Rhia and a new friend, a depressing jester and bard named Bumblewy.

But before reaching Dagda to save his mother, Merlin must overcome a great deal, must learn immense wisdom, must make new friends and enemies, and may lose someone he loves dearly.

Merlin is the same flawed hero as before, with a little more puffed-up-then-deflated ego now that he knows that he will be a powerful wizard. Rhia is the same irrepressable forest sprite, ready to pierce Merlin's ego when it needs a pinprick, and wise enough to see places where they will stumble. Bumblewy is slightly less interesting than the tiny giant Shim in book 1, but his success in making someone laugh and Merlin's re!action will send you rolling in the aisles.

Barron's writing style is still fresh and descriptive, leavened with occasional humor and a new round of intriguing characters. It will be difficult to understand some references (Rhita Gawr, the Flowering Harp) if you haven't read Book 1--also, Merlin's evolution as a human being won't be as pronounced.

So, read Book 1 and then read this! You will not be sorry...

Summary: The Best of the Lost Years of Merlin Series!
Review: After reading the entire Lost Years of Merlin series cover-to-cover in less than a week, I was absolutely enchanted with them all. However, one stood out to me, and that was The Seven Songs of Merlin.
Like a typical race-against-the-clock book, but with a little twist; the main character in this book is young Merlin, the greatest wizard of all time. As he hurries to find the soul of seven songs that were written by Tuatha himself, time is running out, for his mother, Rhia, and also himself. After swallowing the Dark Shadow, Merlin's mother is battling death and has one month to live. The only thing that can cure young hawk's beloved Elen of the Sapphire Eyes is the Elixer of Dagda, the blood of the great spirit himself. All over the island of Fincayra he searches, finding the magic within the songs and also himself.
A great read for nearly any age, The Seven Songs of Merlin is the 3rd book in this enchanting and wonderful series for young adults by T.A. Barron.

Summary: Entrancing and suspenseful
Review: After the Great Council selects Merlin to carry the flowering harp to restore life and nature to the lands of Fincayra, Merlin decides to bring his mother to Fincayra, as well. The evil Rita Gawr sends down a curse that reaches Merlin's mother instead of Merlin. To save her, Merlin must master the souls of the Seven Songs of wizardry. He must then enter the Otherworld Well, which is guarded by an ogre with a single eye, an orb that brings death to all those who look into it.

The Seven Songs of Merlin was the March selection for the local library's teen book club, and I neglected it until just days before our meeting, although after I reached page ten, I was hooked. So far, T.A. Barron's Merlin series is entrancing and suspenseful.

Summary: WOW!
Review: Do not view these as five individual books, but as five pieces of a whole saga. To read only one would be to cheat one's self of seeing an entire picture.

The epic begins with an child with no memory being raised by a mysterious woman in a small village. Both of them are regarded as local oddities and driven to live in a convent. The boy is known as Emrys, but never feels that that is his true name. As he matures, he develops gifts and wonderous powers, along with an increasing need to know who he is. Eventually, he goes upon a quest in search of his heritage, one that will lead him to the lands his mother's stories spoke of, the Hidden World outside of time and this life. He finds himself in the midst of a battle between warring demigods, and finds a new name for his own, Merlin.

As Merlin journeys through the five books, he makes new friends and bitter enemies. This is a world filled with dragons, witches, goblins, and lost treasures. Secrets that are as powerful and painful as a two edged blade are discovered. Otherworlds are crossed, time itself bends to give the boy a glimpse of his own destiny, and choices musst be made that will affect far more than just Merlin.

***** Elements of other classics are hinted at, but applied in new ways and familiarity only serves to endear. This is a grand saga without the weightiness of other epics. Rather, it is easy to read and charming. This Merlin can stand alongside Tolkien's hobbits or Harry Potter proudly. *****

Summary: I loved it!
Review: Do you like fantasy books? This book is exciting from the beginning all of the way to the end. T. A Barron writes very well and books from the first page. When I read it I felt like I was right there with the characters. Make sure you read the first book in the series, The Lost Years of Merlin first. It is also a very good book and ties into the The Seven Songs of Merlin.

In this book Merlin's mother gets very sick and Merlin and Rhia have to go on a long, challenging quest to get an elixir that will save her. The problem is they only have a month.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy. It is a great read.
