Summary: An approach to responsible mental health
Review: This book is based on the work of Psyhcology Of Mind, formulated by Sydney Banks and George Pransky.POM's message is that positive thoughts produce a positive life experience. Conversely, negative thoughts (fear, anxiety, judgments)lead to negative experiences. It dimisses modern psychology's popular method of treatment with an approach that teaches us about our thought systems and how they are effected by our moods. It also teaches how to rid yourself of thoughts that hinder your ability to live life joyfully. Its beauty is in its simplicity. What's amazing is it works, and does so immediately. This is not another "how to think positive" book. Its a book about how to sustain our natural, happy state.

Summary: Way too Simplistic! Even irresponsible.
Review: This book may be fine if your life troubles don't amount to much, but for those with real psychological or physical problems, it is irresponsibly simplistic. "Don't take your thoughts seriously" and "ignore your low mood until it goes away" doesn't wash well in reality when a person has brain chemical imbalances causing clinical depression to the point of suicidal thoughts! And has the author ever tried "not taking seriously" flashbacks of childhood sexual abuse? I think the author has never had to deal with REAL psychological issues in people. And, there IS value in delving into the past to root out dysfunctional beliefs and thoughts/behaviors that are interferring in your life. True, you don't want to stay there forever, but the author seems to say that looking at the past in therapy is worthless. I very much disagree! The way to change behavior starts with awareness and understanding. This can only be gained (as far as I'm concerned) through tracking back to the past and then coming forward again with your insights. His Five Principles can be learned in a short time in decent therapy, and then one would go on from there! If you're serious about personal growth or therapy, don't just use this book. If you're completely functional and all you need is cookbook mental health advice, this may be the book for you, but if you're as dysfunctional as most of us, forget it!

Summary: Changed my life!!!
Review: This book really did change my life and the way I deal with things. Amazing what a book can do. The reading was easy, clear and concise, yet profoundly moving and enlightening. I have read many self help books, and this is the best. In fact, haven't bought a new self help book since!

Summary: Such simple things to do to improve your mental health
Review: This short read hits the basic emotions of everyday living. It helps you to understand 5 emotions and how they swing your level of happiness. A great read, especially the 2 chapters on thoughts and moods. If you follow his principles, it can really make a difference!

Summary: Quick, easy read, WOW!
Review: When you read a self-help book, you usually "know" what the book is telling you. Sometimes you just need someone or something to remind you that you already "have the answer". Of the many self-help books I've read, this one made the connection. I finally "got it" after reading this one.

Within minutes, I was able to apply the techniques of the book. The book is an easy read, so you don't have to spend days trying to figure out some PhD's psycho-babble. It's quick, to the point, and you CAN start to change the way you feel within seconds!
