Rating: Summary: Romance by Vomit Review: As a mystery writer with my debut novel in its initial release, I admire the amazing quality of Julie Garwood's MERCY. It is a clever work of romantic mystery. A federal prosecutor first meets a gorgeous doctor when he vomits on her ball gown at a New Orleans gala. Within hours, she saves his life with an emergency appendectomy. He returns home, successfully brings down an organized crime mob, and begins receiving death threats. He, obessed with his lifesaving doctor, decides to hide in her hometown. Not all is well there, yet their romance blossoms as they take on the town's problems. MERCY is an excellent romantic mystery/mysterious romance. I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Don't start this book until... Review: Don't start this book unitl you have time to read it cover to cover. You wont want to put it down once you begin. I will spare you another review, however, take your time reading this story. The characters are fun, silly and you will enjoy becoming part of the Renard family. Julie Garwood, thank you for another delightful story.
Rating: Summary: What a great book! Review: I enjoyed reading Heartbreaker, Ms. Garwood's first contemporary, but with Mercy, she has really hit her stride. This was a very good book, with excellent pacing and great suspense. I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Mercy by Julie Garwood Review: Julie Garwood has done it again! Her title "Mercy" is just a continuation of her excellence. I enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed every thing else I have read by her. I love her characters, and her plots. She gets you so involved in the story that you hate to put it down, if you have to, and can easily read her straight through if time permits you to do so. This book has romance, humor, suspense, titillation, and closure. It makes sense from beginning to end and gives the reader total satisfaction from start to finish. I wait impatiently for what she offers next. To me, her books are jus GOOD READING.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling and Fulfilling! Review: In this, the second book in the Buchanan series, Ms. Garwood introduces us to several wonderful characters. Jake, Cherry and Darryl and the other "down home and open hearted" people of Bowen, Louisiana, along with Michelle and Theo (Nicks brother - The Heartbreaker). You enjoy the openness of these people, their pride and sense of family and moral values. You gain a respect for the average "working man or woman" and the extent they go to to take care of their own. It was a wonderful book. You got lost in the intrigue of figuring out the next step for the bad guys and in waiting for the next sensual touch by the good guy. Then she slips in a twist at the end that totally knocks you for a loop. :-) I loved it!
Rating: Summary: MERCY, MERCY, Me! Review: I have loved all of Julie Garwood's books and like most of her diehard fans was worried about her branching out into the suspense genre. It took me a while to read HEARTBREAKER, but when I did I loved it. I couldn't wait to get a hold of MERCY and it is even better! I loved Theo and Michelle because they were kind, caring, loving people. I loved the setting and the twist at the end (don't want to give away too much). I got carried away with the story and came to love these characters. A++++, job, Julie.
Rating: Summary: Have Mercy on My Romantic Soul! Review: When I say "have mercy on my romantic soul" I mean it. Julie Garwood has gone back to her trademark of strong heroine, dashing hero, great dialogue and comic moments that made her such a popular historical romance writer. This book flows with the interaction between characters. Even though this is supposed to be a suspense thriller, to me it was more of a romantic suspense story.Theo Buchanan, brother to the popular Nick from Garwood's novel, Heartbreaker gets his own story. What a story it is! Theo is at a snazzy event in New Orleans, about to give a speech when he is struck down with an appendicitis attack. A young woman rushes to his aid when she promptly gets thrown up on over her new dress and a black eye when Theo thinks she is trying to rob him of his gun and wallet. To his shock he later finds out the young woman is Dr. Michelle "Mike" Renard, a brilliant young surgeon from a small town in the swamps who manages to save his life. Theo is suffering from burnt out and decides to visit the small town Michelle is in the process of setting up a new clinic. His pretense is he wants to check out the fishing but he really wants to check out Michelle. Meanwhile the suspense surrounds four friends who have been committing white-collar crimes several years. The leader, John, manages to convince the others to help him carry out a "mercy" killing on his poor wife who has supposedly been ill for several years. What the others don't realize is John wants the wife out of the way so he can inherit her money. Well, needless to say, John isn't as smart as he thinks when he finds out his wife has changed her will, left him nothing, and sent some information to Michelle that John and the others don't want made public. I liked this book. It was funny, had wonderful characters, snappy dialogue, and a great cast of secondary characters. I would have given this book a five except for the fact that the suspense takes backseat to the romantic side. This isn't necessary a bad thing since the romance is pretty darn good but it really doesn't cut it as a "suspense thriller." However, I have to say while I didn't care for Ms. Garwood's previous novel, Heartbreaker, she has definitely redeemed herself with Mercy. Let me finish with a personal request-please--give us Noah's story!
Rating: Summary: A Brilliant Romance/Mystery and follow-up to Heartbreaker!!! Review: This is the follow-up to Garwood's masterpeice 'Heartbreaker' that was released last year and I must say I am impressed! This was just as good as the first, perhaps even better! Nick's(from Heartbreaker) brother Theo is attending a conference in New Orleans when he suddenly becomes ill and throws up on a woman who happens to be a doctor. Doctor Michelle Renard, or Mike, as her family calls her is attending a conference when she sees an ill man doubled over by the elevator doors obviously in pain. When she goes to help him, he vomits on her new dress and passes out. Next thing Theo knows is that he is in an operating room with the beautiful woman who had tried to help him by the elevator. Michelle had found Theo in time, his appendix was about to burst. The two are thrown together by a twist of Fate, because Theo is a Federal Attorney and he is being threatened by mob associates and is hiding until the case dies down. He finds himself in the deep swamps of Louisiana in a little known town called Bowen, where the woman who had operated on him happens to work. A crooked group of men calling themselves 'The Sowing Club' and their horrible secret finds its way from the luxurious streets of New Orleans to the poor swamps of Bowen. Now they are after Michelle and Theo. Michelle's normally boring life is being turned upside down as FBI and police try to unravel the secret before someone is killed. The chemistry is great between Theo and Michelle and the scenes with Noah Clayborne (from Heartbreaker) are fantastic! Its a fast paced story that keeps you wondering how the Sowing Club will work and how corrupt they can be. I am not usually a fan of corruption and political gain type stories, but this one was unbelieveable! It should be on the big screen! The love that Theo and Michelle find was magical and all I can say is WOW! Julie Garwood has sure made a niche for herself in the mystery/romance dept. I am not anxiously awaiting the next installment from this intriguing...Make one for Noah!!! ...
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Review: This book is wonderful! The only thing I would change is the ending. I would have liked knowing exactly what happened to John and Monk, but overall Julie Garwood out did herself with this one. I loved the humor! Hope to see one soon about Noah.
Rating: Summary: Mercy Review: Mercy is one of the best romantic thrillers to be published this year. The characters Theo Buchanan and Dr. Michelle Renard are well defined and the plot is complicated and very believable. The secondard characters are interesting and fully developed. I read it in one sitting and lent it to a friend who also read it in one sitting. The plot was such that you cared about what was happening to the characters. I hope the author continues to write novels in this genre. I highly recommend it.
