Rating: Summary: Interesting Romance/Suspense Review: This is the first book I've read by Julie Garwood. Lots of things going on in this book. The premise was cute. Theo Buchanan is receiving an award, has an appendix almost rupture and throws up on a beautiful woman who asks if she could help him. She turns out to be a doctor and the book takes off. It's a bit over the top in some spots but I enjoyed this fast reading book. The cover is interesting, the romance sweet and the FBI solving a crime was pretty good. It's an overnight read and worth a try.
Rating: Summary: Story ain't bad, but the dialogue seemed a bit flaky to me. Review: I thought the story seemed interesting. It's about 4 guys who made a pact to amass millions of dollars until they hit a limit and split it when they retire. It's just that one of them is more clever and brutal than the others. Now back to what I was saying about the dialogue being a bit flaky to me. What I meant was that the main protagonist, a Justice Department attorney who has an FBI agent as a best friend and whose wife died earlier from booze and neglect, was said to not know how to flirt. But from the first few coherent lines that come out of him, he seems like a huge jerk with a huge ego. I have no idea how the female protagonist, a small town girl who has above average IQ and becomes a surgeon, could have fallen in love with anything but a pretty face. I really wish there was more of this book I can comment on, but as you can tell with my seemingly inane critique about the dialogue -- maybe there really isn't much to it at all.
Rating: Summary: Mercy Review: This book starts off fast and does not stop. There is a little bit of everything, cops, robbers, sex, love, doctors, lawyers, and a devious circle of friends. Interesting characters that you grow to like. An enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed! Review: After reading all the rave reviews for this book, I decided to try my first Julie Garwood novel. The storyline looked interesting but to my disappointment I found many holes in this novel along with characters and dialogue a bit too juvenile for my taste. The romance portion of the story was lukewarm and dull and in my opinion not steamy enough. The suspense portion was bland. It took me three weeks to get through this book. This novel is a very "light" read, the type found in paperbacks. I had expected a more substantial and interesting read.
Rating: Summary: Garwood Hits Her Stride Review: While Mercy isn't really a sequel to the earlier novel, Heartbreaker, it does continue the story of the Buchanan brothers, with Theo taking the lead here. Like Nick from Heartbreaker, he's a terrific hero (Garwood always writes fabulous male characters). Michelle (aka Mike) is another strong heroine, playing a skilled surgeon who wants to stay in her small Louisiana hometown as a GP for the town folk. Like Heartbreaker, Mercy is also a suspense story - and a good one at that. Unlike Heartbreaker, you know who the bad guys are and what they are doing. Or, at least you think you do - Garwood pulls out some good surprises along the way, one in particular throws you. She's certainly not a Grishom, but she has come so far with her writing, Mercy is a real pleasure to read. And her skill at writing dialog has greatly improved, the character interactions really shine in Mercy. You know from the start that Theo and Mike will end up together, there's no secret there - Garwood keeps you engaged with the suspense plot and does a terrific job. Now here's my next request - we've come to know (and love/lust for) Noah in both Heartbreaker and Mercy. I realize he's not a Buchanan, but Julie can we finally meet the woman who will be his downfall? Hey - Theo and Nick have sisters, don't they?
Rating: Summary: one of her best Review: Julie Garwood is a true master of writing. Every word she puts on paper is pure gold. I loved Mercy, I couldn't put it down. I can not wait for Julie Garwood's next book.
Rating: Summary: Mercy is classic Julie garwood Review: I love all of Julie Garwood's historicals, and I have to admit when she switched on us to comtemp's I had my doubts. They are all settled now. Julie has gone back to her classic style, with a quirky, spunky lovable heroine, and a hero who is alpha while at the same time isn't ashamed to show his love for the heroine. I think one of the things that I love best about Julie Garwood is the interaction between hero and heroine make you feel like you're there, and you know them inside and out. She does a tremendous job of that with Mercy--I fell in love! This book had LOL moments, sweet moments, and a great plot. I read it in one sitting, and am going to buy the audio CD to listen to it and see if I enjoy it as much in audio as I did in print. If you're a Julie Garwood fan, jump for joy! She's back!
Rating: Summary: Mercy Review: Mercy, an absolutely wonderful story. It entertained with humor, romance, suspense and sheer "who done it?". The story of Michelle and Theo kept me going. Could not put it down. Definitely want to learn more about Noah and John Paul and Theo's yonger brothers and sisters.Thank you Ms. Garwood for sharing your talent with us!!
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book Review: Julie again has written a wonderful suspenseful novel. While I am mostly partial to historical romances, this book was great. It moves quickly along and the characters are great! Characters from Heartbreaker make this sequel wonderful. Good Read!!!!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book, best I've read in awhile Review: This has to be one of my faviorite books. I just finished reading it and it is great! I usually lean more towards the romantic side with books, but this one was superb! I don't usually like to spend alot of money on books, but this one was worth every penny-and that's alot of pennies! My mom and I dont' usually read the same types of books, she likes mystery/suspense with hardly any romance, while I like pure romantic/happy endings, but I know she is going to love this book as much as I do.
