Summary: First time JG reader and WOW!
Review: I am not a fan of historical romances so I have never picked up a Garwood book. I work in a bookstore and have read most of the descriptions and I know how popular she is...
Mercy was excellent. I really enjoy the tight romantic suspense and she def. made me feel for the characters. True it did seem a little busy with the sheer number of characters involved, but it was easy to navigate. If you enjoy romantic suspense I HIGHLY recommend this book, if you spook easily and/or live alone.....maybe this won't be your cup of tea :-)

As an addition: DO NOT BUY the audio book read by Terrence Mann. I listen to audios all the time (my commute is 2 and 1/2 hours every day) and I thought that since I loved the book so much, then the audio would be great to listen to.
Terrence Mann does a good job with the different accents in the book (Cajun, Boston) but he has no sense of emotion and he smacks his lips all throughout the production. The sound became so grating and so pronounced (in my mind) that I couldn't even finish it. I am hoping that Killjoy will be out on audio, but if he's the reader, there not a chance I will purchase it.

Summary: You think you know exactly what is going on....
Review: This book is better than Julie's first attempt at contemporary writing, Heartbreaker. (Course this is all just my humble opinion.) I think i liked this story better because the antagonists in this story weren't all homicidal maniacs. And i appreciated how much we saw of Theo's point of view. The plot was very interesting and the characters were v. alive and funny. It would have been fun to have seen a little more of Nick & Laurent, but I was satisfied with Noah being so prevalent in the story. (Perhaps Julie's next contemporary will chronicle his discovery of true unending white-hot love?)

All in all, the mystery & the characters & the plot were quite satisfying. It is a definite page-turner with some quite surprising twists.

Summary: Surprisingly Wonderful
Review: I just finished Mercy. I bought it on a whim not knowing how it would be. It was a Great book... I enjoyed the characters they held my attention throughout the whole book. I would characterize it as a Romantic Thriller. There were some dark areas of the book but I thought they were necessary to understand the storyline. I would recommend this highly for those of you who are looking for a good read. It was funny, thrilling, romantic, had great characters. It was a fast paced read. Hardly any slow sections at all. Good Stuff. I will continue reading Julie Garwood. I personally love a good book with strong characters and a good solid storyline that I can follow. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Slight Disappointment
Review: As a longtime fan of Julie Garwood, who especially adored her Regency England espionage series, I enjoyed "Mercy" but wished it had more depth. Theo is one sexy and smart leading man, which made for a great read, but I was disappointed with his leading lady Michelle, who seemed more clinical than passionately loving. I was also disappointed by the casual attitudes both characters took about sex, as was also done in the recent "Heartbreaker" book. Julie's historical novels were centered much more on falling in love and making love with emotion and caring rather than instant physical satisfaction that later leads to some kind of regret or pain. I sincerely hope this trend will not continue in her writing -- entering the modern-day genre does not mean she has to bow to the most liberal views on sexuality which, contrary to popular belief in the literary world, do not dominate every aspect of American society.

Summary: Good Book
Review: Mercy starts rather slow. About 100 pages in, I was pretty bored. I was beginning to wonder if the entire book would be dominated by one dimensional evil characters whose only motivation was greed. Fortunately, things began to pick up. The good characters are far more interesting than the bad ones. There were a few surprises. The pace (after the first 100 or so pages) is good. It was funny as always with Mrs. Garwood. The ending was a tad predictable and a bit unsatisfactory in certain aspects but it did have Mrs. Garwood's flair for the dramatic. Good book. I would read it again.

Summary: Very Disappointed
Review: I am a big fan of Julie Garwood's historical romances and I was looking forward to reading her contemporary romance 'Mercy'. I was very disappointed. I listened to the audio book and it didn't hold my interest in the least. There isn't anything good I can say about this book. The book is simple minded with a repetitive theme which doesn't develop to hold the readers interest.
