Rating: Summary: The main characters felt more like secondary characters Review: I am a die hard fan of Julie Garwood and own all of her books. I can read them over and over and never get bored. However, I don't have the feeling that I will want to do this with "Mercy." Theo Buchanan is Nick's (from "Heartbreaker)brother and works for the Justice Dept. Michelle Renard is an exceptionally smart, small town doctor from Louisiana. The Sowing Club is a group of 4, successful mid-thirties people who have been friends for years and excell in white collar crime. Their plan is to have 40 million dollars stashed away by the time the oldest hits 40. When, John, the real genius behind the club gets increasingly despondant over his "sick" wife, the club make a choice...in order to keep John sane and continue with their money extorting ways, there will be a mercy killing. Why do I write so much about the Sowing club and so little about Michelle and Theo? Well, there simply seems to be more to write. The budding romance of Michelle and Theo seems secondary to the development of suspense surrounding the Sowing Club and their actions. Michelle and Theo don't have the same sparks that Ms. Garwood's novels usually crackle with. A great deal of the book and Michelle and Theo's romance takes place in just one weekend. I did enjoy the suspense part of the story, but I would have really liked to see more of a story line with Michelle and Theo. In the book, more appearances will be made by Noah Clayborne (apparently a relative from the "For the Roses" stories) and I am wonder if I am alone when I was more interested in him and perhaps a future novel about him than Michelle and Theo. However, in all honesty, I think that Ms. Garwood's true talent is in the field of historic romance. If this was any other author, they would have gotten 5 stars, but as this is Ms. Garwood, I have to give only 4. I waited an entire year for her new book and was somewhat let down.
Rating: Summary: A great read- Mercy has it all! Review: This is the 2nd book, i've read by Julie Garwood (the first being Heartbreaker) and so far she is 2 for 2. What a great book- Mercy has romance, suspense, mystery.. Mercy is the story of surgeon Michelle Renard "mike" who is attending a society gala when Justice Dept attorney Theo gets stricken and needs emergent surgery. Theo is in Louisiana and helps investigate a secret club of white collar criminals. Together these 4 have secreted millions of dollars but they agree not to touch the money for 5 years. The club's leader, John, plans to kill his wife Catherine and threatens their club's safety. Catherine is supposedly ill and John tells them it will be a mercy killing to end her suffering. They hire Monk to help them but it ends up that John is not telling the whole truth. The club eventually targets michelle as she is the one person who can destroy them and expose their club. Theo helps her investigage and protect her. The main characters were rich and believable and the story line was fast paced and exciting. Even better, the secondary characters of monk, Michele's dad (big jake) , theo's family and even the criminals enrich the story. Mercy is a great book!!
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended! Review: I read this book recently and I absolutely loved it. I am a huge Julie Garwood fan and although most of what I have read from this author has been in the historical category, I am a big fan for her more recent modern romance books. I also read "Heartbreaker" and "Killjoy", after reading "Mercy", but this one is by far my favorite. The story was mysterious, hilarious and romantic. I fell in love with the characters and they stayed with me long after I had finished reading the book!
Rating: Summary: A mercifully entertaining read Review: Catherine Bondue's death was staged as an ostensible suicide but her husband John knew better. He manipulated his friends in his self-formed crime organization The Sowing Club to concoct a murder scheme by hoodwinking them into thinking that it was more of a mercy killing to end her sufferings by a debilitating disease. Little did he expect his wife to outsmart him by gathering his sordid evidence and send them to her niece Dr. Michelle "Mike" Renard. The nefarious felons soon invade Michelle's life so it is thus fortunate that Theo Buchanan from the Justice Dept. fatefully enters her life when Michelle rescues him after he fainted on her in a gala at New Orleans. The lean, hard pulsating thriller from second-timer Julie Garwood is fraught with fast twists, back-stabbings and deceptions that climaxes with a showdown at the hospital. The romance between the intelligent Michelle and chivalrous Theo adds on to the palpable tension instead of slowing down the frenetic pacing of pursuits and evil sabotages. Interweaving the small-town Louisians backdrop and charming interactions with the thriving community, the book crackles with humour, warmth and fraternity. This contemporary romance fuses cutthroat suspense to render it a mercifully entertaining read that will have Garwood's fans cheering.
Rating: Summary: Mercy Review: Julie Garwood has always been one of my favorite authors and this book was no disappointment. The main characters Mike and Theo were fantastic and I fell in love with the small town of Bowen and the neighbors residing there. I passed this around at work and all the girls have raved about it. When I do get it back, I plan to read it again. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Good Story Review: I am a Julie Garwood fan, and while I enjoyed this novel, I have to admit that it had to grow on me. When I first read it, I stopped a few times because I felt the story line was a tad bit slow. Still I forced my way through it and the story picked up speed and ended up a wonderful thriller. Justice Attorney Theo gets seriously ill at a party and passes out right before throwing up on beautiful Dr. Michelle Renard. Michelle is a surgeon and saves Theo's life. Theo is instantly attracted to Michelle and the sparks fly and the beginning of a romance ensues. What Theo learns is that Michelle, even though she is this big city doctor, actually comes from a very poor small town and is returning to that town to open a practice. Theo, who is actually very burned out at his job and even though he doesn't realize it, big city life, visits Michelle in her hometown to get to know her better. What neither realizes though is that there is a secret organization that wants Michelle dead. This organization has also followed Michelle to her hometown. The story picks up from there. You meet all the good hearted but poor town folk while being immersed into Michelle's small time life. I enjoyed the book. Out of Julie's contemporary novels, this is probably my least favorite, but still a very good read. I would recommend.
Rating: Summary: Cartoon Characters Review: I can't imagine how this book was ever published. The author can't write. Her characters are one-dimensional cliches. The plot is thin and ridiculous. You would get more enjoyment for your money if you simply burned it. This book is a total waste.
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic, Fast, Fun, Furious, Fulfilling Read Review: Boston attorney Theo Buchanan is receiving an award in New Orleans for his work with the Justice Department when he collapses with appendicitis and is helped by Michele Renaud, a beautiful young doctor. He can't get her out of his mind, so he goes back to Louisiana and tracks her down in her small medical clinic. To his surprise, he finds Michelle is being targeted by someone who smashes up her clinic and seems to be following her. What they don't know is that four friends have been stashing away millions from fraudulent white collar crimes and are lying low, waiting for the heat to die down. Head crook John's wife, however, has learned too much, but before she's murdered (she had money and John wanted it), she'd sent what she'd leaned to Dr. Michele, plus she'd changed her will and you can guess who the new beneficiary is.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Review: Just couldnt put it down. Finished this book in a day and by the end I wanted to read it again. Excellent plots. This one HAS to be my favorite from Julie Garwood
Rating: Summary: Humorous, Romantic, and Totally Fullfilling Review: This is a novel that I could recomend to anyone, and would. It held my attention from beginning to end. It made me laugh, it made me hang on to the edge of my seat, it had some truly romantic scenes that made me want more, but it never once compromised the story line. This is a powerful novel that outlines the wonderful qualities of human nature while fighting some of the worst qualities of human anture. The characters are believable and very easy to relate to. Possible made for TV movie anyone? Although I could see it happening, I wouldn't want to see it happen as I am sure it would loose something. Kudos to Ms. Garwood for a job very well done.
