Rating: Summary: REALLY great book! Review: This book is so fabulous. I couldn't put it down! You just have to read it if you haven't already.
Rating: Summary: Could never put it down! Review: At first I heard the book was so different then the movie and I had enjoyed the movie so much, that I didn't want to read the book. But then I got them for Christmas and I couldn't put them! It was different from the movie, a lot was different, but some was the same. I am just about done with the second book, and I am reading it little by little so I don't finish anytime soon.
Rating: Summary: Great Read! Review: This is a hysterical book that I have read 3 times! It is a light and fun book that you can read in bed! I think it is a book that everyone should read!
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Book Ever! Review: When I frist Heard that this book was going to be a movie, i screamed with joy! The Book is much more mature than the movie. For once, disney toned something down! I would recomend this book to teens just entering high school or 2nd years.
Rating: Summary: See the movie not the book! Review: Most books I have read, that I have seen the movie version of, I usually like the book better than the movie. Yet, this book is the opposite. The Princess Diaries clearly portrays that the author is trying to sound like a teenager. She would use phrases like 'She was all, "...." Then I went, "blah blah blah." As a teenager myself, that isn't how we write, it may be how we talk, however. The book lacked plot, yes there were a few exciting parts, but mostly the character complained about how she was failing Algebra or how ugly she was, and how no guy will ever like her. But then when she becomes a princess, everyone likes her for her fame, money, and new makeover. What does this teach today's teens? That getting beautiful and rich makes you happy and that you can not accept the person you are for yourself? Also.. in the "diary" the character (Mia) would "write" in her journal a whole conversation word for word. Well, maybe its just me, but I certainly couldn't remember word for word everything everyone said everyday in my life! In closing, I reccomend the movie, which I really enjoyed, and I, hence the phrase, judged this book by its pretty pink cover with the crystaled tiara upon it.
Rating: Summary: Good book although the movie is better!!! Review: I saw the movie and enjoyed it very much so i decided to read the book because the book is usually way better than the movie. In this case, although it was a cute book, it was very different from the movie and i think that the directors of the movie improved apon the book. The book has some major differences such as Mia's dad is alive in the book and not in the movie; and in the movie Mia's grandmother dosn't seem too bad but in the book she is horrible. I reccomend that you first watch the movie and then read the book because it really is a cute and enjoyable book. My favorite thing about the book? It has lists in it of things Mia is telling herself to do and that helps to take away the stress of reading a bunch of long paragraphs. Also it is written as a diary wich is fun.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book for Girls with an Imagination Review: This book was one of the best kids books I've ever read. Ms. Cabot is a very gifted writer and can really seems to know what teenage girls think about and like. Most people can identify with Mia Thermopolis. A bright girl from Manhattan who gets teased terribly in school. The book moves very quickly and there are never any boring parts at all. This book should be read by all girls who have any heart.
Rating: Summary: The Princess Diaries Review: I had no intentions of reading The Princess Diaries, but when I saw the movie and read some reviews, I decided to give it a try. And like everyone said, it was much better than the movie [I did like the movie, though] and very different, but it had the same message. Anyway, Meg Cabot made a fan out of me. The Princess Diaries is a funny read, and anyone who reads it will like it. Can't wait for Princess in Love.
Rating: Summary: Boring boring boring boring boring Review: I saw the film first and fell in love with it, so I decided to sample the book. Big mistake. Big. Huge. The book is nothing like the film; in fact, I think Garry Marshall actually improved on it, and usually in most cases movies tend to ruin the books (although that wasn't the case with First Wives Club, either).Like the film, the book plays with the theme of an ordinary girl discovering that she is, in reality, the sole heir to a royal throne. The problem that I have is that none of the sweetness that I found in the film is in the book. I didn't like the grandmother. Mia is a whiny little brat who doesn't learn a thing. Her father isn't dead (whereas in the film he is) and proves to be very annoying. Many of the scenes from the book have been rendered in the film, but they just lack the specialness and spark that made me go see the movie four times in the summer. If I had been a Hollywood producer and somebody suggested that I make a movie out of it, I would have told that person he was out of his mind. Please, take my advise: this book just isn't worth it. Stick with the movie. Despite the negative reviews it received, it's a whole lot better.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites Review: (...) If you are like me, a freak on the low end of the social ladder, you will cherish this book. Some people called her "naive" because she was flat chested, fourteen, had never been kissed and without a boyfriend. Well so am I. 've never been kissed, never have had a boyfriend. this book is like a special star to me, to hold on to and remember that somebody out there remembers what it's like to be pathetic. Mia is a unpopular girl whose mother is a painter and whose father is a person who works overseas in a country called Genovia where people treat her like a princess. Then, suddenly, whoops, he drops the bomb-she IS the princess of Genovia. She doesn't like this (who would? I mean, imagine giving up all your dreams because of who you were born to and having all of your life mapped out-as a ruler.) Another thing the other reveiwers disliked was how she became a "beautiful teenager". She didn't. She became, in her words, "a human Q-tip". She looked no better than before. And those same people loved the movie, which, in case you didn't know, Mia turns into a supermodel. Huh? I loved the movie, but it was a bit of a disappointment. Reading "The Princess Diaries" is like sneaking a peak at your best friend's journal. Watching the movie was like eating sugar out of the jar. But I really liked the movie. This book is aimed for teens, so definatly not for younger girls. Please read this book. If you like teenage coming-of-age learning who-you-are series, this one is so right for you. Mia is like talking to your teenage friend. And the best part is, she'll always be there so you never forget what it was like to be a teenage geek. Always there, sitting cross-legged with big army boots, vegitarian stickers, and a loathing for alebra, right there, just waiting for you to listen about her problem and to laugh with her. Princess Mia is definatly a friend.
