Rating: Summary: An amazing book! Review: In the Princess Diaries 1 a 14-year-old girl named Mia has to go through alot of changes, one major one is her becoming a princess. This is an interesting, and exciting book that has love, romance and real life stuff happening in it. I personally didn't care for the love and romance parts, but the rest of the book was great. I thought that those parts were boring and dull. They would always seem to go on forever, but then when the story got back to it's fantasy world. The fantasy was somewhat real but somewhat fake. I liked that! It seemed to go into real life and talk about a normal teenagers life, and then gradually go into becoming a princess. I think this book expands your imagination and fantasy world, while it still keeps you in an everyday life. This book overall is interesting and fun. I think that people who like books about regular teenagers lives and still like fantasy and romance, will love this book. You should go out and read it!!
Rating: Summary: eh Review: My friend gave me this book after reading it, maintaining that the movie didn't do it justice. I can't say that i agree. The story was very entertaing, more fluff for preadolescent fans of bridget jones. however, despite mild entertainment value, this book realy wasn't all that great. Specifically, the main character, Mia Thermopolis, often irritated me. Despite seeming to be a fairly intelligent, enlightened individual, sometimes she came off as inexplicably dense, doing things completely out of character, like her failure to realize Michael's affection for her. While, to a certain extent, these things are plausible, as Mia is supposed to be somewhat naive, eventually it gets ridiculous to the point where all you want to do is hit the girl over the head. Also, Meg Cabot makes a valiant effort at speaking the way her character, a fourteen year old girl, might write in her journal... not an easy task. Sometimes she hits the nail on the head, really making the material easy to relate to. UNfortunately, it often sounds like...well...an adult trying to sound like a kid. One of the only reasons i plan to continue reading the series is the ipmressive and entertaining characterizations (i'm definately in love with michael..). The thing that makes these books actually readable are their briefness. If they took more than on or two sittings to read, i would have completely lost interest. Take these books out from your local library; don't buy them. They are diverting, but if you are looking for funnier, more well written novels of the same genre, try the georgina nicholson books ("Angus, thongs, and fll frontal snogging"...etc).
Rating: Summary: Ironically Irresistable Review: The Princess Diaries is an entertaining, fun book about a freshman attending Albert Einstein High School in New York. All Mia Thermopolis wants is to stop being the "freak" she considers herself to be and to have a boyfriend, specifically Josh Richter, who is apparently "six feet of unadulterated hotness." Her mom simply makes things worse when she starts dating Mia's algerbra teacher. Then her life takes the most dramatic turn yet: Mia finds out she's a princess! Follow Mia's life from her day-by-day installments in her journal, complete with many amusing notes and observations. I think anyone who wants to read a light, enjoyable story should try this one. I read this book nearly a year ago and I still find pleasure in reading it. However, there is emphasis on the word light. One of my main problems with this story is that it lacks depth. Mia isn't exactly the most intelligent teenager, and while she is congenial enough, she isn't on of my favorite characters in literature. Besides that, the plot of this book stems from such an overused idea: loser teen becomes famous and gets a makeover; now she goes through major changes at school. Josh Richter, the most popular guy in school, really turns out to be a jerk. Hmm, maybe I've heard that before? Yet the ironic thing about this book is that despite its faults, it still manages to be a good read. I suppose one reson is the backdrop of the book; it has an interesting cast of characters and the environment Mia lives in is extremely entertaining. So, particularly if you're a teen girl or slightly younger, try reading The Princess Diaries. But keep in this in mind: it is in no way a profound story.
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome!! Review: I babysit for a four year old girl who saw the movie "The Princess Diaries" so I was a little skeptical when she told me it was good (4 year olds think that Barney is the greatest thing ever so I wasn't too sure of her opinion). Needless to say, I bought the book and LOVED it!!!!!!! No matter how old you are, if you are a princess at heart, you will adore this book. Mia tells it like it is (at least in her journal) and is just a great character that you love to root for. I advise EVERYONE to at least read this book, because it is the BEST!
Rating: Summary: A Semi Great Read Review: I just finised reading this book, after i got it in Nov. 2001. I watched the movie and figured, it's the same as the book, right? NO, it's so unike the book. I mean, if you watch the movie, Josh kisses her at the beach, not in the book. He kisses her some place else. and he turn out to be as jerk and a freak. (in my opinion). And Paolo doesn't tell the media about her someone else does. Grandmere, faces the media the same way in both. i think this is a great book, but i also think that someone under the age of eleven wouldn't really get the meaning. Also, i think that even know it's for young readers i think everyone will enjoy iT! my mom did and she's like 40!
Rating: Summary: Love Review: I"m 14 and i have just finshed the book. I really enjoyed it. If you have already seen the movie you will be able to see what they changed in the movie compared to the book. I really recomend this book for ages 12-15 it is a really good book. It is about a normal 14 year old girl just trying to get though school and ends up to be the princess of Genovia.

Rating: Summary: Funny, Interesting, Somewhat-Realistic-with Fantasy Story! Review: This book, PRINCESS DIARIES, VOLUME I has got to be one of my favorite books of all time! In the beginning, Mia is somewhat of a depressed 14-year-old high school freshman. She has lots of problems which include flunking algebra, being teased by the populars, and being in love (or so she thinks) with an extremely popular and snobby guy. Later in the story, Mia finds out by her grandmother (Grandmere - as called by most everyone) that she is the heir to the Genovian throne! As most girls would be glad to find out that they are a princess, Mia is traumatized - as if she doesn't have enough problems already! It's fun to see how Mia tries to worked out her problems and discover who she REALLY likes, and who her true friends are. Trust me, it's a book hard to put down and be sure to get the next two volumes!
Rating: Summary: Though the movie was good; this was MUCH better... Review: Okay so I certainly don't like alot of the stuff in the book(Like the sex outside marraige stuff and the way some of the characters behave), but despite that, this is a pretty darn good book!!! I mean I don't think I'd let ANYONE below 15yrs read it maybe 14yrs, because there are ALOT things in here NOT suitable to impressionable children and young teens. Anyways onto the story. Now if you've seen the movie, it give you NO RIGHT to review the book because its almost like two DIFFERENT STORIES...I mean the story line is alot of the same, but its less superficial and more about finding yourself. And in this nobody likes Mia ANYMORE when she get's her hair chopped off and colored with blonde highlights(Yes! It get's chopped off NOT straightened)she's treated worse. In fact the ONLY reason she's treated ANY BETTER is when the beans are spilled that she is the Princess of Genovia, so its not about the looks. And first off as presented in this story, NOT EVERYONE wants to be a princess, not everyone can cut it. Some people(Though I don't think you should)want to coast through life and be happy as they are. And Mia wants to be herself and find herself, but when she finds out she's not who she thinks she is, its a tough battle. Also she is made a *little* dumb at the beginning like when she finds out her dad is the Prince of Genovia, yeah Meg could have left that out. But still it doesn't ruin it, unless you're a narrowminded bum. The Disney flick watered the story down sooooo MUCH that's why its like two different stories. Though I like the wholesomeness in the movie; it was kinda cheezy. But I think Meg did a great job she just didn't have to put all these things in the book, but I understand she didn't want to hold back...I take she's not Christain, but I'm not here to judge, just to write a truthfull and brutally honest review. From a (sometimes)brutally honest and good natured person. So in conclusion IF you haven't read the book, don't BOTHER REVIEWING IT!!! And don't be so critical anyways, the stories fun and cute. *enjoy* God Bless ~Amy
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: I'm an absolutle Princess Diarie's finatic, ever since I've read the first book I've been obsessed. Mia is so much like a normail person, I really felt like I knew her throuh reading her diary. I just wish that this book had her Michael together a little sooner, so she could have talked a little more about being his new-found girlfriend (IT'S ABOUT TIME!) An excelent read I'd say, I hope everybody who reads this relizes it's true feeling of being a normal confused teenage kid.
