Rating: Summary: funny, interesting Review: I could not put this book down, and I have added janet ivanovich to my must read authors, i find grandma mazur a delight, stephaine plum is my king of detective. When they make this into a movie I hope that estelle getty play the grandma, meg ryan for stephanie and denzel washington for ranger, and, great i cannot think of his name but he was the angel in city of angels. I cannot wait for the next book, high five, to come out.
Rating: Summary: This book made me laugh out loud! Review: I enjoyed "One for the Money" very much. Being a "Kinsey Malone" fan, I had a hard time accepting a new heroine. The beginning of the book presented some pretty zany stuff, like grandma shooting the chicken, but once I got past that, I found myself engrossed in the story and at times laughing out loud. I immediately orded the next two in the series. NJL
Rating: Summary: Can't put it down! Review: I bought this book months ago and hesitated to read it, until last weekend. Exhausted and trying to sleep, I picked it up before bed, thinking I'd read two chapters. I was up all night finishing it! Wonderful characters!
Rating: Summary: Slow to start but gets more interesting as the story unfolds Review: Stephanie Plum is short of cash, so she goes to work, for her cousin, as a bounty hunter. The story was hard to get into, but as I read further, I began to like Stephanie (and especially Stephanie's grandmother) and became interested in what would happen next.
Rating: Summary: Didn't come close to expectations Review: Janet Evanovich's first novel, "One for the Money," came highly recommended, and that might have been the problem. I had heard nothing but praise and the repeated assertions of how funny the novel was. Yet when I read it, I found it thoroughly mundane. The story involves Stephanie Plum, an out-of-work New Jersey woman who watches as all of her possessions are claimed by her creditors. Desperate, she takes a job tracking down FTA's, people who failed to appear for court dates. The lure is a $10,000 fee for one particular man, a police officer charged with shooting an unarmed man.She finds the officer immediately, though she does not effect a capture. She also finds a top-notch boxer with a prediliction for sexual sadism and rape. Between these two men, her life quickly goes from calm but poor to frantic but poor. Evanovich does exhibit considerable flair for characterization, albeit not without resort to stereotypes and archetypes. But where the novel really disappointed me was in the ending, which not only hints of deus ex machina but screams it. In fairness, I should restate that this may well have been a case of a common phenomenon, previews that make it impossible for the novel to live up to the advance word. Even so, the ending seemed far too contrived, and I was not all that enchanted with the ride to that point.
Rating: Summary: A great read!!!!! Review: One For The Money is a great read! So great in fact, that I only put it down for a smoke or to work! Stephanie Plum is 30, average looking and knows nothing about being a bounty hunter. Boy, does she learn fast! Trying to hook Joe Morelli in this first book, she learns the tricks of the trade rather quickly. I think the best part of this book is her trips to the parents house for dinner. Grandma Mazur is by far my favorite character, especially when she snags Stephanie's gun at the dinner table and shoots the chicken in the "gumpy" by accident. She also seems to adore Stephanie's spandex bike shorts and buys herself a pair. Can you imagine a 73 yr old wearing spandex??? Scary!!!! And very ballsy! I'm not one to read mystery books but this one sure takes the cake! I have all 4 of them and I'm working on no.2 right now!!
Rating: Summary: A FUN BOOK..NOT FOR THOSE WHO WANT A SERIOUS READ. Review: A light and comical murder mystery along the lines of Lucy becomes a bounty hunter. This book is by no means a serious mystery....it's just a comical story of a women who lost her job and must find some employment. It's a story about a women down on her luck in predicaments that make you wonder what could possibly go wrong now. Even she sees humor in things that happen to her. A light, funny book if you enjoy Lavern & Shirly, and Lucy type adventures.
Rating: Summary: Fun, fun, fun!!!!!!! You'll LOVE this series! Review: I've read this one and the next two in the series! I have actually laughed out loud and can't wait to finish the fourth. In this first of the series, you get to know the characters in addition to a good story. They get better and better. . . You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Appealing Heroine Review: I read this first book as a fluke because I saw an advertisment for the fourth book in the series. So I decided to go the cheap way and read the first one which was in paperback. I have always enjoyed the Kinsey Millhone stories, so I thought I might also like this one. And boy did I. I not only liked it, but I enjoyed the reading even more than Kinsey Millhone. Stephanie Plum has spunk and a smart mouth. The mystery part of the story is fairly good also, but the heroine is just a lot of fun to follow around. I have since read all of the others including four and loved everyone of them. It's not often that I get to read a good mystery and laugh all at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Talk about your crap movie of the week book...... Review: How could anyone rate this book with 5 stars? It was poorly written, filled with cliches and the characters were not at all likeable or redeeming. Put this on the back shelf and only read if you are desperate.
