Rating: Summary: Fun (Reading) for the Money Review: Always on the lookout for either a good mystery/detective/police novel or a light humor book, I was pleased to find one book filling both roles. One for the Money mixes light, realistic characters and a fun, yet exciting, storyline. Stephanie Plum goes from unemployed to a bounty hunter and doesn't do it without hitches. Realistically, she runs into some problems that would happen to most people trying this line of work. There is the suspense and twists that a good mystery novel exhibits tempered with the romance and fun characters( Stephanie and Grandma Mazur) that I am sure you will enjoy, no matter if you are a man or a woman.
Rating: Summary: Introducing Stephanie Plum Review: This book was the fastest moving decetive story that I have ever read. Stephanie is a down and out lacy pajama buyer who gets layed off from her job and doesn't want to tell her parents. She has to sell most of her furniture and her car gets repossed. Then her mom mentions that cousin "Vinnie" is looking for someone to do filing. Stephanie goes for the job, but finds it filled. So she blackmails Vinnie with family secrets to hire her on as a bail bond agent. From here the laughs just keep going. Stephanie is assigned to track down Joe Morelli a cop who is accused of murdering somone in cold blood. Joe is also a sexy as hell guy who stole Stephanie's virginity. She is out for revenge (and let me tell you that when she catches him he is madder than all get out). Add an abusive boxer who is after Stephanie, a car bomb that blows up Joe's new car, and some drugs and you have the makings for an interesting book. I can't wait to sit down and read the next book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent series Review: These are the most entertaining books I have read. You will fall in love with Steph and her supporting cast immediately! A must read for anyone who loves a good story!!!
Rating: Summary: books that read better than any mini series Review: I work at a Museum that tends to be very quite unless of course this one particular desk docent is working. I always heard bursts of laughter during her shift. I finally broke down and asked, " what are you reading?" She lent me the first in the Stephanie Plum series. Needless to say I ordered all the rest in one fell swoop because I didn`t want to be wasting any time hunting each one down. The books are extremely funny. You can smell the low life the bounty hunter has to come in contact with. The real life that happens all throughout these books touches on daughter /mother guilt, generational gaps and the fact there are good people who just get mixed up in bad circumstances. There is enough murder mystery, who dunnit and a little bit of steamy sex to please everyone.
Rating: Summary: One for the Money Review: I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend. It was a great read. Very real, up-to-date, serious yet funny. It was very hard to put down. I enjoyed being inside Stephanie Plum's head, and I really liked her family, espically Grandma Mazur. Half way thru this first book, I bought the next two Evanovich books; I had to make sure I'd be able to continue reading his "new" slooth.
Rating: Summary: A terrific story! Review: I couldn't put this one down. It was great. If you are looking for a laugh you have found it with this one. I think there is a little bit of Stephanie Plum in all of us - at least I like to think so! Read it - you will be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: Fast Paced and Satisfying Review: For once I'm glad I didn't read any reviews before I started the Stephanie Plum series. I'm a hard core detective, police procedural reader and have absolutely no interest in romance novels. I was surprised to read that Janet Evanovich was a romance writer at one time. But romance plays a minor role in these very fast paced and fun books. Stephanie Plum is such a likeable character and Evanovich wastes no time in getting right to the action in her stories. All the minor characters, most of which repeat in later books, are interesting and could be oddball people you know from your own neighborhood. I just love Stephanie Plum and plan to read the whole series currently in print before starting any other mystery books.
Rating: Summary: Fast-paced, well-written fun! Review: I finally decided to try Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series out because of the positive comments about these books on Amazon's discussion boards. I'm glad I did. ONE FOR THE MONEY was a terrifically engrossing, witty, and amusing tale. As soon as I finished it, I rushed out to get the others in the series, because I couldn't bear to part company with Stephanie and friends yet.Stephanie is a great heroine, a woman who's not afraid to make major changes in her life, like going from lingerie buyer to bounty hunter. Her attitude reminds me a great deal of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, with the exception that all the nasties after Stephanie are human, and unlike Anita, Stephanie's just starting in the business, so readers get to see her develop her skills from a completely blank slate. She has moxie - clipping Morelli with her car to revenge his adolescent seduction behind the éclair case, carrying concealed in a state where such a thing is illegal, venturing into the nastiest section of town on her own (although some, including me, might call this just plain stupid with an amazing amount of luck), commandeering Morelli's car...this girl is nonstop action! The remaining cast of characters is well-rounded. The chemistry between Stephanie and Morelli sizzles. Grandma Mazur is bust-a-gut funny, as is the portrayal of family life in the burg. Ranger is appropriately tough and mysterious. Ramirez is so creepy I had to look around to see if he was following me. Evanovich brings her characters and the city of Trenton to life in her straightforward, take-no-prisoners prose. My only complaint is that these books just go so fast! If you want a great weekend read, by all means, pick up ONE FOR THE MONEY. But I'm warning you now: you'll get hooked forever!
Rating: Summary: Keeps you up at night Review: Great little book, when a book makes you laugh out loud and everyone asks, what, are you reading? it's good. Fast paced with unforgetable caracters, especially her Grandmother. I can't believe I never read Janet's books before. I just ordered another.
Rating: Summary: hilarious and interesting Review: Stephanie Plum is coping with a failed marriage, obnoxious family and lack of a job. Her pet hampster is about the only thing good in her life. So, she decides to become a bounty hunter, and not because she has the necessary skills. She's scared of guns and hasn't the first clue how to begin. This comical ineptness is one of the best aspects of the book. What Stephanie does have, though, is relentless drive (or should that be stubbornness?). Under the instruction of the black-clad and mysterious Ranger, Stephanie begins to stumble through learning the trade. You can't help but cheer her on, even as you laugh at her mistakes. With a charming-yet-maddening bail jumper (the object of Stephanie's search) and a creepy stalker, this novel really has a bit of everything. Comedy, suspense, mystery, fear and lots of very colorful writing. This is a book to read in one sitting; it's so enjoyable and hard to put down.
