Rating: Summary: Thank you, Amazon Reviewers!! Review: I happened upon a review of the Stephanie Plum series quite by accident, and it caught my interest. So I called up this first book, "One for the Money," and by the time I had read all the enthusiastic reviews, I had to have it! Well all I can say is thank you. I laughed so much on the commuter train, ALOUD, that people were staring at me...and trust me, I'm not the type to make a scene. The book got me through a dreary, stressful week at work, and I cannot wait to get the next in the series. This is a fun, fast, silly but somehow ridiculously believeable romp, perfect for summer or any time. The mixture of really funny double entendres and hilarious situations with mystery, violence and eroticism is just too much to ignore. OK, so I'm writing a review two years late, but if you are new to Stephanie Plum like I am, read the book! You'll love it!
Rating: Summary: One that should be made into a movie Review: This book jumped off the pages and played like a movie in my imagination. Stephanie Plum is like Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone, with a Jersey attitude. The characters are so real, but humerous. The danger is thrilling as Stephanie weaves her way through the ghetto to get her man. How can you resist a book that features a cousin named Vinny, a mentor named Ranger, a neighborhood pizza parlor, diving into a dumpster to find the car keys, a butcher/bookmaker named Sal, a geriatric flasher, and a fictional Mike Tyson? Not to mention Mama, Grandma and the nice young man they invite for dinner who sells appliances. This book has attitude - mystery with humor. Please, Hollywood, make it a movie.
Rating: Summary: It was nice and funny, I really enjoyed it! Review: I had a blast with this book, I couldn't put it down. It was interesting and funny, and throughout the whole book, I was hoping that Stephanie Plum would hook up with Morelli. ::sigh:: Well, I mean, that doesn't mean they don't hook up, we just don't get the chance to find out. But it was a terrific book and I'm sure that everyone who picks it up will also enjoy it immensely. :)
Rating: Summary: Humorous but Frustrating Review: This is the first book by Janet Evanovich that I've read, and I have to admit that I had two strong feelings while reading this book. One was "how stupid can this author make women look" and the other was to find myself laughing out loud at the character's situations. So, if you're just looking for some light humor, with a twist of mystery, then this is probably a good book for you to read. The concept of a female bounty hunter is terrific, and I look forward to reading more in the "Stephanie Plum" series.
Rating: Summary: Wait for the movie then go see something else Review: Poorly written and entirely predictable. I could not wait to put it down and regret ever picking it up. The book back cover reads better than the book.
Rating: Summary: Chills Down My Spine... Review: I bought this book almost totally oblivious of what it was really about. I started reading it one afternoon and read almost non-stop till one in the morning...by one in the morning I was pretty well into the plot and was so scared that i was basically up the rest of the night. Stephanie Plum got my attention right away. She was funny and not to over the top to be unbelievable. I thought the whole "bounty hunter" thing was pretty awesome, almost like a female James Bond. I loved this book so much and thought it was so funny that as soon as I was done I bought the rest of the series...I'll never be tired of Stephanie and her wide range of friends...now that I know better than to read them at one in the morning.
Rating: Summary: very, very funny Review: Hmm... I always looked at a Janet Evanovich cover and think, this must be one of those bland female mysteries. Then one day, I met a fanatic of Evanovich who introduced me to the series, and I swear, I laugh and laughed. Stephanie is not the heroines where you want to marry, but rather one that you'd want a bottle of beer and and movie with.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful discovery Review: I am always so excited when I find a new series of good mysteries! Janet Evanovich has done a great job in portraying a funny, gutsy heroine who does what she has to to survive. From driving her graffiti-d Nova to learning to use a gun, Stephanie Plum is equal to any situation life throws her (with the possible exception of the mamas in the Burg!). This book is fast-paced, funny and just plain fun. Excellent summer (or anytime you need a lift) reading!
Rating: Summary: One Good Book For Your Money Review: This is the first book in the Stephanie Plum mystery series. It sets the stage for the following books, and it happens to be one excellent story.Stephanie Plum is a broke, out-of-work lingerie buyer, with mounting bills and a repo man after her car. She has a nagging mother, complacent father, and a wacky, off-the-wall grandmother. And that is just in the first chapter. She goes to work as a skip tracer for her Uncle Vinnie. Her first assignment, which would bring her $10,000, is to bring in a cop named Joe Morelli, who happens to be the guy that stole her sweet virginity years earlier. Janet Evanovich brings together an outstanding group of characters who are all pretty well-developed. The storyline is very nicely defined behind her descriptive writing language, peppered with humor that will make you laugh out loud several times. Stephanie Plum is a smart, witty, exciting character in the world of mystery novels, and this first one is a good, solid effort. The book is loaded with plot twists, and the ending happens so quickly in this already-fast-paced book, it totally comes about as a shocking surprise. The suspense is superb. ONE FOR THE MONEY is a very entertaining read, and Evanovich does a super job of setting the stage for the following novels in the series.
Rating: Summary: Never a Dull Moment - Bust-A-Gut Funny Review: I never thought that I would enjoy such a book... this has to be one of the best Fiction books that I have ever read! If you read the book, all the characters come to life, the town because your own and the story wraps around you. It is the Godiva of books!
