Summary: Where's the horse?
Review: After all the hype I thought this book would be a profound insight into the relationships between people and animals and other people. How disappointed I was when I got almost all the way through and discovered it was little more than a romance novel! Heaving bosoms and all...

I suppose without any hype I might call it an impressive first novel, but I found most of the relationships stereotypical and the ending totally inconsistent with what little character development there was.

Summary: Amazing Novel
Review: Breathtaking, tragic, compelling, and inspirational, all these words and more can't describe the amount of significance that The Horse Whisperer endures. Nicholas Evans produces a very touching and moving novel, which has rendered the lives of many horse back riders. What starts out as a lovely, fresh and crisp winter morning, quickly turns into a gruesome meet with a large transport. Two girls who didn't thing to check the trail before their ride had paid the price, Judith and her horse died, while Grace and her horse Pilgrim, had suffered incredibly with broken bones, ligaments and predominately scarring their heart and soul. Tom Booker, the whisperer, is kept much a secret through the entire story. His thoughts and feelings are subliminally placed in every chapter that he was present, and more and more is revealed about his character in each one; thus giving the reader a challenge to figure out what he's really like. The Horse Whisperer is filled with subliminal messages, which provokes an excellent in-depth read through all of the twists and turns of the novel. A well-constructed story that fills in many gaps that the movie couldn't cover.

Summary: A Moving, Captivating Story
Review: A truly moving story. I can't say how long I've waited for a story to move me as much as this one did. The story is of a young girl, her parents' and the rehabilitation of their lives from the young girl's tragic accident with her horse. The story is filled with pain, love, and growth. It sucks you in and commands that you surrender to it. The story is detailed, but not overly so, and the characters are well developed. The ending is satisfying, and closes the book well. I've been looking for a good book in the sea of nonsense that ends up being printed. I found one, with the Horse Whisperer.

Summary: The Hoarse Whisperer
Review: This is a great disappointment I think because I saw the movie first so I thought the book would be like the movie. Wrong the movie was great but the book lacked what the movie had.If you have seen the movie you will see what I mean.

Summary: A TRULY BEAUTIFUL STORY
Review: This is a story about tragedy, healing, love and loss. The book begins with two childhood friends, Grace and Judith, out for a morning ride on their horses. Suddenly, an accident happens that will alter lives forever. Judith is killed; Grace and her horse, Pilgrim, are seriously injured. The long, painful recovery begins for both Grace and Pilgrim with the help of Grace's mother, Annie, and equine Zen master, Tom Booker.

What follows is an incredible story of love and healing, loneliness and sorrow. The quiet mysteries and silent words of Tom not only tame the wild beast seething inside Pilgrim, but soothe the soul of Grace. Tom's simple truths and gentle ways also capture the heart of Annie. The story is deep and the characters true, rich and filled with emotion. Do not be surprised if the ending leaves you with a tear in your eye and an ache in your heart for all that was....and might have been.

Summary: GREAT FIRST NOVEL
Review: THE HORSE WHISPERER starts with a vivid scene of accidental violence where both a girl, Grace, and her horse, Pilgrim, are broken, in body, mind, and spirit. This book tells the story of how that girl's mother, Annie, noted the connection between girl and horse, then sacrificed everything to find a solution to heal both Grace and Pilgrim. It follows the three as they trek across the country to find Tom, a horse whisperer, one who could talk to and literally soothe animals. Somewhere along the line, Tom and Annie (who is married) fall in love. THE HORSE WHISPERER allows us to go to a place where passion rules, but where it also has its unplanned consequences.

Summary: Totally Encapsulating
Review: I don't care what the critics say. The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans is a well written piece of literature and it is indeed a book that I would recommend to anyone. The story explores many different themes; including Annie's struggle between responsibility and passion, and the mental healing of Grace through Pilgrim. As a student, I have read many classical novels but sometimes it is nice to have a little light enjoyment, which is exactly what this novel provides.

Summary: Wonderful story, much better than the movie!
Review: This book is one of the reasons I prefer reading the books first, then see the movie. I do not think I would have read the book if I had seen the movie first. This genre is not my usual choice for reading, but once again so much information had been in the newspapers, on television, and recommendations by friends that I decided to give it a whirl. I was not disappointed in the book, the plot, the writing, or anything else. The story fluctuates between the healing of both the daughter and the horse, and the mother's own story. Since I was raised around horses, and have become very interested in the more humane ways of 'training' a horse and its extension to other animals, I found this part of the book enthralling and informative. The only reason I don't give the book a five star rating is because I am not sure how the book will withstand time...will it continue to be a classic, or was it just the favorite for a year?

I enjoyed the movie too, but as usual, my imagination does a better job filling in than a movie screen. We are ultimately somewhat disappointed in the portrayals of the characters in the books with those chosen to play the part on screen. Robert Redford was fine, but I am not sure that others would have played the other main characters better. The book will last longer and last better than the movie.

Summary: A tragic story
Review: The Horse Whisperer is the best book that I have read in a long time. It is a well written book that I did not want to stop reading. The beginning is very sad and descriptive. The middle is informative and touching. The ending is very sad and happy all at once. The book starts with Grace Maclean and her best friend Judith out on a horse ride one snowy morning. They get off the trail and end up in a terrible accident. The author goes into great detail describing the accident. The author goes into great detail describing the accident. It becomes really gory. Grace looses her best friend in the accident. Gulliver, Judith's horse, is also killed. Grace looses her leg and Pilgrim, her horse, becomes savage. Annie decides to take Grace and Pilgrim out to Montana to Tom Booker. Tom understands horses and Annie hopes he can help her. After months of being separated Grace and Pilgrim find each other again. While all this is going on Annie and Tom fall in love. To find out the ending, you are going to have to read the book because it is nothing like you would expect. If you enjoyed the movie as I did; i think you would be able to enjoy the book even more. The movie was pretty good, but the book was even better because of all the detail. If you like horse stories or love stories this book is a great combination of both.
