Rating: Summary: The proper ingredients for a good book-I liked it! Review: Very enjoyable book. Thoughtful, yet well paced. It kept my interest and had the proper ingredients; a little romance mixed in for good measure. The relationship to the horses was well drawn. Did not have the ending I would have chosen, but it is worth reading
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but unbelievable ending Review: Good, quick reading. The author was able to get me involved
quickly and keep my interest. The plot was certainly
different from what I imagained it would be from the cover.
It was more a fictional relationship story about a man,
woman & child than a mystical horse trainer. I was disappointed
with my expectations of the plot. The ending was horrific and unrealistic. The daughter should be scarred for life. Worth
reading, though; well written.
Rating: Summary: Disengage your intellect and pass the kleenex! Review: What a great escape! The best kind of book for after a stressful day at work when all you want to do is relax, read, and not think alot! The story is a simple done before theme, but the writing is clear and descriptive. Easily you are there among the wild horses or on the train. The characters are at once likeable and aggravating (much like real life!). So I recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy read and a good cry. (I challenge any horselover to get through the final taming scene without shedding a tear!
Rating: Summary: I want my money back! Review: I wish I could like this book. The title was intriguing and the book jacket made a vague promise of a story that explored the lost art of "whispering" to calm and tame wild horses. What I found within was a screen play masquerading as a novel. Character development was weak. I am impressed by the publicity and following this book has. It is a good quick read that can be enjoyed relaxing on the beach or travelling by plane. Sometimes readers need a break from complex and rich plots.
Rating: Summary: Exceptionally rich British screenwriter hits Big! Review: The publicity department simply forgot to tell readers that the "first novelist" is British, an acclaimed screenwriter, and a savvy fellow. He spent three months in Montana and made ten million dollars for this puffed-up romance. For as much as he made, he could at least have gotten the details of horsemanship and Montana life right. Since he is so very rich now, may he never pull this rabbit trick again
Rating: Summary: The theme of this book is too similar to "Fault Lines". Review: Although I found the book to be a good and fast read, I was amazed at how the "woman has pre-teen daughter and solid but boring marriage has an outdoor adventure adventure involving an intense affair, she finds herself and the guy dies in the end from what he loves most, and the daughter and mother find their relationship" theme was almost identical to "Fault Lines", another recent paperback
Rating: Summary: Should be classified as Juvenile Fiction Review: This book reminded me of the books I read when I was 13. It went for a cheap and predictable storyline. The ending was as corny as one could expect from juvenile fiction
Rating: Summary: A big disappointment. Went for cheap emotional ploys. Review: I feel like a complete sucker for wasting any time on this book. It could just have easily been written by Judith Krantz - but at least with a Krantz book you know what you're getting into. The idea of a "horse whisperer" is very intruiging, but it was certainly not developed here. It only pretended to be. Once I switched into trying to think of it only as a book about the character's interrelationships, I still found it completely lacking. The motivations for their actions were unbelievable and I found that I really didn't care for any of them. I could not finish it, and I can only say that about < 5 books in my entire life.
Rating: Summary: A touching, but devastating book to finish. Review: The Horse Whisperer in many ways trys to shock the reader in it's graphic details. It hooks the reader by the first chapter, and tricks you into believing this to be a story of hope. I recomend this for a good read but don't get emotionally attached. The story of the mother and daughter had some real moments
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I am not a horse lover, and yet I found myself bewitched by the unusual rapport between Tom and his equine friends, deeply disturbed by the pain and suffering of Pilgrim and
horrified at his treatment by some of the humans. As for the human characters, I loved all of them and truly cared about what happened to them (the hallmark of a good story). I found the story both emotionally disturbing and inspirational at the same time.
And despite crying through parts of it, I could not put the book down! I recommend this book to everyone, but get out the tissues!
