Rating: Summary: PLEASE!!! Review: Come on. How was anyone healed? How does it help a fourteen year old girl to witness a suicide--sacrifice, whatever you want to call it? You mean to tell me after his death she miraculously forgives her mother for the affair? What happened to Booker's family after the sudden death? They didn't want the woman up there in the first place, I would imagine there would have been some harsh feelings. What about Booker's son, that we went through the pain of meeting only to never hear from again. Does he feel a lost for never really getting know the his father that is forever lost to him? The one person I really feel sorry for is Annie's husband. What did he do to deserve a cheating wife? Everyone is so caught up on Annie's hurting, Grace's hurting, Pilgrim's hurting--What about Robert? Do you sacrifice his love and blinding trust to hurt him at the risk of freeing yourself from what I'm still not sure? She stays with Robert. Why? If she was so willing to leave him and wish that he was a another man while making love to him. Sounds to me she just settled for him after her options were taken from her at Booker's death. So how does that heal her? All because your grandmother didn't like you growing up and you never felt like you really belonged. We all feel this way at some point or another. I just wished that we we're able to see the healing, than to be told in the last eight pages that they were healed. How??? The ending, to me, read like the writer got tired of writing instead of resolving the problems--everyone's problems.
Rating: Summary: A HEALING SPIRITUAL JOURNEY Review: THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING CAUGHT UP WITH THE "ADULTERY" ISSUE ARE MISSING THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS BOOK. I HAVE READ IT TWICE AND LISTENED TO THE BOOK ON TAPE (EXCELLENT READING) AND I WILL READ IT AGAIN. IT IS A LOVE STORY BETWEEN A HORSE AND A GIRL, A MAN AND A WOMAN, A FATHER AND A DAUGHTER. THEY ARE ALL HURTING AND ALL ARE HEALED. DON'T LET THE BAD REVIEWS KEEP YOU FROM READING THIS BOOK. YOU WILL MISS ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL BOOKS TO COME OUT IN A LONG TIME.
Rating: Summary: A terrific read!!! Review: I found this book very interesting. I loved it. I was a bit disappointed with Tom Booker committing suicide. I suspect the reason he did it was to make it easier for Annie to return home, as it would never have worked had she stayed with him as she did love her husband and her daughter. He also knew he would not force her to stay and as he had said, "she could live without him, but he could not".... I would recommend this book to anyone..
Rating: Summary: It could have been a good book. Review: Like a lot other reviewers, I thought this book was pretty good at the beginning. Mid way through it, De Ja Vu!! Bridges of Madison County all over again! (Geez, do I go with this guy because he makes me feel so good in bed or do I stick with the hubby 'cos I'm married to him? dilemma.) Could have done without the adultery material and with more concentration on the horses. It would have been as gripping, Evans. Otherwise, enjoyed the narrative and the scenery.
Rating: Summary: One of the most touching love stories I have read Review: If you love a good romance that makes your heart ache for the characters, this is a book for you. The love between Tom and Annie that builds throughout the end of the book is touching, the kind you always hope to find. I can't believe all the people that thought the book was bad- if you love thrillers, and especially romances this is your book. Evans describes the love so vividly between all the characters while managing to tell a story about two families, horses, and a hot love affair. I would strongly suggest reading this book!!
Rating: Summary: Good try, one major problem Review: First, a message to "A Reader, 2-13-98". Are YOU a joke? Please learn to spell and use punctuation (you're a published author? I don't believe it) before you criticize other authors. Thanks. This book started out beautifully, with descriptions of the characters and particularly Pilgrim, that made me want to know them, and wish them recovery. But an adulterous affair doesn't ever heal anyone; really, it doesn't. Turned my affection for the characters to disgust. At least Pilgrim was OK...
Rating: Summary: This has to be a joke. Review: Being a published writer myself, I consider myself by far most a avid reader. I'll read whatever I can get my hands on, but this book left something less to be desired, Who edited this book? I had to read and reread passages when all that was missing was a comma or something fundamental as that. My advise to those who hasn't read this book--save your money.
Rating: Summary: It was a fabulous Book Review: I thought it was the most wonderful story about loving people and loving animals. I just wished he would write another book. I have checked the book stores since I read the Horse Whisperer but nothing has turned up. I hope he didnt stop writing this was only his first book and I could not put it down. I cant wait till the movie is out.
Rating: Summary: The First Half is great, too bad the second half Stinks Review: This starts out as a great book, with interesting characters and a good plot. Unfortunately, about halfway though the author decides to become a syrupy romance instead. The ending is as Cliched as a Daniel Steele novel, and as surprising as Barbara Cartland. I wouldn't recomend it as you'll only be disgusted with all the characters by the end.
Rating: Summary: Overall I found this book distasteful. Review: This book started out okay with a very touching plot then quickly moved into adultery that really turned my stomach. And the end with the horse whisperer committing suicide was very disturbing. It left me with a sick knot in my stomach and I do not recommend this book to any one. A friend who read it felt the same way. Yuck!
