Rating: Summary: Someone who hates to read..I read this in 1 day..& love it! Review: This book was forced on me by my sister and mother because of my love of horses. I WOULD NOT read it for a long time because I am so busy with my art & work, and hate spending my time off reading. But I read it one day while I was sick...I COULD NOT put it down. Since my husband and I adopted a wild mustang from BLM, I saw alot of the same personalities of Pilgrim in my horse and can relate to the personalities in the book. It was very REAL to me, and touched my heart where many others could not know the emotions that I experienced in reading this. All I can say, is I've never read a book where I could not put it down. I would have gone without sleep in order to finish it (and I've got to be the slowest reader). I praise Nicholas Evans for his gift of words.
Rating: Summary: It is okay! Review: I think a strong resemblance to "The Bridges of Madison County" can't be denied. But what's wrong with that? I read the Horse Wisperer first and really liked it. It's no waste of time to read this book, even if you already know "The Bridges". Why not read a similar plot twice if you like it?
Rating: Summary: It COULD have been a good book. Review: Having just finished this novel and having read many of the reader reviews here, I am compelled to offer my opinion. I agree with the many who said that at the start, this book really delivered. As I began reading, I was making a mental list of who I would like to pass this book on to. Halfway through, I crossed off my husband who wouldn't take much to the "Madison County" tone. Then at the first sexual descriptions of lovemaking, I crossed off my secretary, my mother and my 14 year old. I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviewers who were critical of the writing, the lack of completeness with the characters and the issue of "healing"...I had to re-read all the glowing book jacket "come-ons" to realize that I'd been taken. I was, on the whole, disappointed in this book, but probably like the others will see the movie.
Rating: Summary: It's Great! Review: I'm only 15 but I read this book last year and loved it. I can't wait to see the movie. Great Job Nicolas Evans.
Rating: Summary: Copy of Madison County? Review: I couldn't warm up to Annie, therefore I didn't feel she was worthy of this adulterous affair. I just saw her as a bitter, mean woman who cheats on her husband. Robert is such a nice man who doesn't deserve her. Grace is a real heroine who shows amazing courage to overcome her disability...signs of which she showed before she met Tom Booker. I also didn't feel the "magic" between Annie and Tom.
Rating: Summary: Is Madison County in Montana? Review: Is Madison County in Montana? I was just wondering, because the Montana ranch seemed to me to be Madison County revisited. I read this book in 2 nights. The first night I didn't want to put it down, I was so relieved to finally be reading a book where the characters were so interesting and so well developed, a book where the lead in to the plot did not seem contrived and forced. The second night I wouldn't put the book down simply because I could not believe that all of these wonderful qualities could fall to pieces so quickly. It may have been Mr Evans intention to make us feel as though it were the lives of the characters that were floundering, when in fact it was Mr Evans' plot that was falling to pieces with every page I turned. I found myself rooting more for the author to pull this one out, than I did for the characters. When I began the book I loved it and felt as though I was reading a well written piece of literature, when finished it I felt like redesigning the cover... I can see it now, Fabio riding a broad chested stallion through fervent green pastures, the wind blowing his hair in horizontal tresses. Ahead of him is a fair maiden in a black dotted dress with small pink flowers, and upon closer examination you can see that Fabio is whispering in the horses ear. I could have saved a considerable amount of money by buying a cheap dime store romance novel.
Rating: Summary: I'm Head Over Hooves For "The Horse Whisperer"! Review: This book sank deep into my heart. The passion that can exist between two people is amazing, once you find it. This story stirs the emotions of the heart. I'm not one to cry, buy as I finished it, I felt something. It stayed with me for days, I can't even explain it. It was forbidden, everything natural that the characters felt for eachother was overruled by responsibility and priority. Just read this book, then you'll know.
Rating: Summary: Some of you people! This book was excellent!! Review: I wrote my first review before I had even read anyone else's. And I am glad I did because my first would have been slightly harsh to the other reviewers. I am only 14 years and as I read the reviews of adults I was mortified to find many being so rude!! To all of you making comments about Evans, keep your traps shut!! Didn't your mother's ever teach you it's wrong to criticize? I agree with some that the ending was quite unexpected and maybe it could have happened differently but I believe that is not our place to say is it? Did you write this book? Obviously not because it wouldn't not have been worth reading then. I will say once more that this is the best book that I have ever read and I will continue to say that no matter what anyone says. This book deserves a 11!! May I suggest that some of you other reviewers should state your opinions a little less harshly. If I were Evans I would be very proud of this book. As for me I can't wait for the movie even though the book is always better and I hope to see more touching novels like this from Evans. Ashley
Rating: Summary: From the first page to last I could not put this book down! Review: I read this book recently and found it to be intriging. From the first page to the last I loved this book and could not put it down. I finished it in 2 days and I am reading it again! My heart poured out to the characters, especially Grace, Annie and Tom. I related most to Grace because I am of the same age and I cannot begin to imagine what I would do in a situation like hers. I laughed, I cried and I loved with the characters in each moment. This is the best book I have ever read and I plan to read it again. I recommend this book to anyone, no matter if they love horses or not. Because this book will touch their hearts, as it did mine.
Rating: Summary: A shimmering story! Review: The unabridged audiocassette of this wonderful story is beautifully narrated. The characters are alive and real, and you simply fall in love with the gentleness and calmness of protagonist Tom Booker. His character helps you understand that it is possible to hear what God's other creatures have to say. And thanks SO MUCH to the reader from New Brunswick (2/17/98) for giving away a significant outcome of the book. A book review is not meant to tell the story, Dear Reader from New Brunswick, but to entice readership. These reviews should be vetted by someone to assure that the story isn't given away before a reader has had the opportunity to enjoy the book. Like, DUH.
