Summary: Don't read this book if you don't like romance...
Review: I chose a 3 because the beginning was great. I thought it was going to be about a horse that's spirt was broken by a horrible accident, and they were going to put it back together. Well, i was right but from the 450 pages, only about 75 of them were about the horse. I read it because i love horses, but this wasn't about horses.

Summary: I think that something is missing.
Review: After all is said and done, I think that something is missing from within the story. I think the plot becomes trivialized with the conception of Annie's baby and the death of Tom.The book starts out strong and ends like a Danielle Steele novel (which is not a bad thing). However, I really am looking forward to the movie!

Summary: Amazing.
Review: This book was incredible. I could not put it down, and found myself moved to tears on several occasions. The book was touching, funny, and incredibly real. I would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Why do so many women seem to like this book?
Review: What a disappointment, after a promising start. I have skimmed the other reviews and was glad to see that so many other people saw through this flimsy romance novel, dressed up in nice scenery. But, I was amazed that no one else has mentioned the incredibly strong anti-feminist message that Evans has not-so-subtley woven into this book. In the guise of a "strong female character," Evans has presented a cold, unloving career woman who compromises everything that she ought to hold dear. She only finds happiness in the end with a new baby and no job. Is this really a book and an author (and a coming movie) to which women should be flocking, waving dollars? Besides, the demeaning message to women, this book also has an unecessary adultery, a pitifully silly ending, absolutely no insight on the training and riding of horses (except, Evans does seem to know the difference between an English and Western riding saddle; what an expert!), and simply sketched, disappointing characters. If this is a bestseller, more of us should try our hands at writing.

Summary: Outstanding and beautifully written
Review: This was the first book I have read in a long time that I could not put down. Nicholas Evans weaves a beautiful tale of healing and growth. The ending caught me by surprise but could not take away from the tale previously started. Whether or not you like horses, this is an intriguing tale about the way in which people and animals love and learn.

Summary: Glad I didn't buy it
Review: I give this novel a 5 because it did hold my interest, but the characterizations were weak and the ending seemed hurried and contrived. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless they are stranded due to a blizzard or just seriously bored. I am curious to see what Redford will do with this; some great cinematography just might do the trick.

Summary: Book the screen. A good bet for success
Review: First there was Robert Redford and Montana and profit in the mind of our screenwriter/author. Then came some experience with horses; life, (a little), sex, (more as a formula for success), and, voila, a book! A convoluted process, a convoluted book.

Summary: Very Good Book
Review: Very good book. Worthwhile read. Wonderful author. Beautifully written

Summary: Poorly written trash sells big---quel drag
Review: I found this book when I was desperate for a read--what a disappointment! Cardboard characterizations, actually I take that back as the descriptions on the back of cereal boxes have oft proved more gripping, and how about that ending. If it isn't completely amateurish to kill off a character to resolve a plot snarl then the best of novels start off with, "It was a dark and stormy night." Spend your pennies on a better book. The only beauty in this one is found in the title which is too bad as I'm sure many were drawn to it solely on that basis.

Summary: The most moving book I've read all year.
Review: The Horse Whisperer is a story of love and trust, of forgiving and rebirth. The characters and their actions are so real, people cannot help but to identify with them. Even if no one has gone through the same trials and tribulations, it is easy to understand why someone would make the same choices. The book is full of raw emotions that alternately tear at your heart and cause you to laugh. This is a must read for anyone who has ever faced a tough decision or a difficult challenge.
