Rating: Summary: slow and boring Review: the first few chapters are pretty good but then something happens and it was hard for me to continue reading it. I was very disappointed, I had heard that it was suppose to be real good...boy, did I hear wrong!!!!
Rating: Summary: Loved It to death!! Review: I loved this book and I was astonished when I saw all of it's bad reviews in here! I am an equstrian myself and I am 14 years old. I can't see how all you people wouldn't like it? And not liking it because of the ending? It's called life..I think it was good of him to put that in at the end because it made you sit still for a moment with the book down in your lap as you gaze into space. I saw the movie the first day it was out and I though it was VERY good but I didn't like the ending of it..It's to..i don't know not put together well..You never see or hear her re-load Pilgram..But some of you need to acctully read the book not put it down because of the BORING part of the trucker. Thats all I have to say but GOOD BOOK!!
Rating: Summary: This is an EXCELLENT book. Review: I this was an excellent read. Great character description with lots of insights. It has tragedy, romance, enlightenment and so much more. Then I went to see the movie the day it came out (yesterday). I think Redford did a terrible job of capturing the characters and he leaves out many things. Then to make matters worse, the changes the ending.
Rating: Summary: predictable Review: Having raised horses most of my life this book made me homesick for the wide outdoors, the neighbors miles away and the friendship and bonding with a horse. But the book was too predictable, too overbearing with the mental and physical injuries of the young heroine. I did enjoy the indepth agony of the rife between the mother and the father, and the separation between mother and daughter. The sex was typical of any romance novel sold at the 5 & dime store. When I finished the book, I already knew the ending before I read it.
Rating: Summary: Too Convenient . . . Review: I had heard such great things about this book that I couldn't pass up the chance to read it for myself---Am I glad that I borrowed it instead of buying it. I was impressed at the begining, but by the middle, I was bored. I could tell already that she was going to have an affair with some steamy love scenes, but if I wanted a tragic love story and sex, I would have read a trashy romance. I did like Gracie's story though. However, the ending of Annie's and Tom's was way too convenient! She didn't have to make any of her own decisions and didn't suffer the consequences of breaking her promises to her husband. She got off too easy. If you want to read this novel, go to a library---It won't cost you.
Rating: Summary: This is a wonderful book! Review: I found this book hard to put down. The most exciting part of the whole book takes place in the first 40 pages. Never in my life have i enjoyed a book as much as i enjoy this one. The words and feelings the author expressed throught Tom and Grace made it feel like you were right there with them! I cant wait to see the film!
Rating: Summary: AUGH! YUCK! Review: What is there to add... I finished the book only because it had been selected by our brand new book club for discussion. I disliked this book so much, I decided that if everyone else there enjoyed it, I would have to gracefully bow out of the club. Fortunately, after some sideways glances at each other and hesitation, everyone 'fessed up. It was unanimous - we each despised it. We have fun, even now, bringing up the book and bashing it some more. The only specific comments I would add to the insightfully negative ones here is if the mother was so darned concerned about her daughter, how could she have added another injury through her own infidelity? AND, why would the gentle, insightful Horse Whisperer intentionally add to that poor girl's trauma, as an act of sacrifice, with her as a horrified and re-traumatized witness? sheeesh.Instead of using description, examples or dialog to show us the characters' states of mind, we were simply told "this is how he/she feels and isn't that pretty scenery?"
Rating: Summary: Magnificent! Review: The Horse Whisperer is clearly well written and thought out. While reading it I often caught myself secretly hoping for love to conquer all. However, this book does not have the tidy resolution that most romantic novels do. This book absolutely delves much deeper than that. It is definetely a book that will make you confront all your strongest emotions, from fear, all the way to the deepest heart felt love one has for the other, and the passion one has for life in itself. A truly magnificent book. One you will want to read again and again. A book about the ultimate sacrifice one makes for love.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money Review: This book started out well ... not great literature by any means, but worthwhile summer time fluff reading. Then it totally fell apart with incredibly bad descriptions and a totally predictable, stupid ending that made me yell.
