Summary: Mild entertainment....
Review: Wow. I would hardly have imagined that this little book would have inspired either such bitter invective or such complete adoration. As a former horse-trainer myself it made for some chuckles; as a romance, it did not either jerk tears or repulse. I must say, however, the reviews here were more entertaining and revealing; there certainly are some snobs out there! Really, whatever did you expect?

Summary: A SOUL TOUCHING, HEART WARMING STORY
Review: I read Mr. Evans book when it first came out. At the time I told my friends that I could see this being made into a movie! I cannot believe the bad reviews this book has received! Of course, that's what makes reading so exciting, two people can read the same book and in their mind's eye see something entirely different. Bravo Mr. Evans! To make such a noise over one story, to make people think and react in ways that are controversal, exciting. Even the readers that gave bad reviews have shown passion for your book! So you see, just because we didn't all agree you have sent the pebble into the water and started the ripple effect. I loved the story, the last chapter broke my heart and as I was reading it, the tears were flowing steady! Especially the part when she received the note and read "just so you don't forget". Oh boy! I lost it, of course I am a romantic at heart and I think that's one of the reasons I really loved the book so much. When I first read your book I had checked it out of the library. My family knew how much I loved the book they bought me the hardback version, I look forward to meeting you one day Mr. Evans so that you can autograph my book. The last story I felt this passionate about was "Camelot". As soon as I fiinished the book I went right out to see if I could find another book by you and was sad to find that was your only work of fiction. But now I'm glad to hear you have a new book due out this year called "The Loop". Can't wait to read it.

Summary: Not enough horse whispering
Review: I bought this cassette with great anticipation, since I am something of a horse whisperer myself. The mental bond between a person and a horse can only be described as magic. It's incredible how few people are aware of it. I was hoping this book would give others a look into a world they never dreamed existed. But what did it give? Hardly anything about the horse, everything about the stupid people. And the horse was a pain in the butt, even before it got hurt. I had to pull off the road and sob as the tape finished. I HATED it, what a horrid ending.

I did like Tom. Too bad he didn't spend more time with the horse, as the book promised!

Review: Excllent horse and love story.

Summary: Heartwarming Story
Review: A quick reading, heartwarming, story. The author proves that you don't need explicit sex and violence to write a truly memorable book. I look forward to his next one.

Summary: Gutter language and trashy scenes. Lack of a real story.
Review: I was very disappointed from the very beginning of this novel. Evans peppers his story with gutter language and trashy scenes (the mark of a poor writer with little to say). Many readers, like myself, had hoped for a quality book with depth and literary value. Sadly, I'm also disappointed in the publisher who seems to think that everyone lives in the gutter. One good note is the the wonderful title and cover.

Summary: VERY impressed!
Review: I was impressed with the book The Horse Whisperer, I thought it was a very powerful story and it was very well written. I knew that it would have movie potential, but i was VERY disappointed by Robert Redford's version of what will (in my opinion) wind up as a classic novel. There were only a few scenes in his movie that even resembled the book, and the ending was ridiculous. I would love to have been on his editing staff so i could throw the script in his face and laugh at what a joke he turned The Horse Whisperer into. I've never walked out on a movie before, but this one deserved the cold shoulder, especially from a movie buff like myself.

Summary: Smarmy and uninteresting
Review: Perhaps the new edition that has been released in anticipation of Redford's movie will force the editors to actually read the contents of this novel. The edition I read completely lacked commas and looked as if an editor had never put a pencil to the manuscript. The story is sappy, predictable, and not even worthy of escapist reading. I don't understand why everyone loves this book.

Summary: Shallow, poorly plotted, poorly constructed
Review: More and more the American public, perhaps because entertainment is delivered so passively to us via the television set, is unwilling to work hard for its literature. We've seen how shallow, nonsensical stories with shallow, nonsensical characters have become grossly popular. The true read -- one that entertains but also provides knowledge, moral value and judgement, and the intensity of human possiblities -- is sadly passed over in the rush to trivial escapism. This book is a sad example of this new cultural ethic. Fortunately, the film extracts the novel's plotline and then runs with it, creating a magnificent and moving story that you wish Evans' had been able to imagine. Skip the book -- go see the Redford movie.

Summary: Thank God it's over
Review: I read this book three months ago and still wake up with nightmares. Quick, someone take this man's computer before he writes another bomb. Tonight, however, I was dragged to see the movie and i have to say--thank God for Robert Redford. He and his two screenwriters saved Pilgrim and Annie. Finally, a ralistic ending.
