Rating: Summary: Outstanding book!! Review: This is an excellent book, although it is very long, it is worth reading. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a good book.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful, emotional book. Review: From the very first page of this book, I was hooked. The writing was vivid and detailed to such extent that I felt as if I were with the characters experiencing every look and every step. As well, the plot was involved and deep, causing a surge of my emtions to develop. This book reminded me of Bridges of Madison County because of the seemingly impossible romance, but better because the writing was so beautifully done. To add to an already incredible book, the final outcome was absolutely breath taking.
Rating: Summary: Superlative Review: I don't think I have ever read and enjoyed a book as much as "The Horse Whisperer". Absolutely fantastic. The ending was incredible, so moving and perhaps.... inevitable!? I've been counting down the days for the movie. When we first read the book a couple of years ago, my mother and I were trying to decide who would play Tom in a movie. We thought of Sam Elliot, but of course, Robert Redford was excellent. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed in the ending of the movie, but on the other hand, I don't know if I could have made it through. It was hard enough to read the book. So many tears........ I think I just might buy this movie when it becomes available.
Rating: Summary: Great beginning, the end was awful Review: The first 350 pages were wonderful. I loved and could relate with the characters and relationships. The last 100 pages however, I found myself rolling my eyes. I'm sick of books, movies, etc. acting like a few days of hot sex is the most amazing, cosmic-driven thing in the world. I could think of ten men I could have hot sex with for four days. That's not amazing. What's amazing is when you can spend four, ten , forty years with someone and still have love, pasison, and fun. THAT is amazing, not this. I also found it ridiculous that this girl had been through a horrible ordeal, finds healing, then her mother puts her through a whole other horrible ordeal. But she is presented as the female Beaver Cleaver at the end - I don't buy it.
Rating: Summary: The worst book in living memory Review: 1 dimensional characters, a total lack of plot development and the most ludicrous ending possible, combine to make this my top nomination for "The worst book of all time" award. So bad that it doesn't even qualify as a good trashy holiday read. Just pure unadulterated horse manure.
Rating: Summary: I just can't say enough Review: Nicholas Evans knows exactly how to keep the reader fastened to his/her seat and keep reading. The detail in which he describes certain scenes, and the way he reaches into the minds of the characters is outstanding. If you're as interested in horses as I am, and you can place yourself in the position of one of the characters, then you will read this book in one breath. Even my father, who knows nothing about horses read it in one go. A book for all!!!!
Rating: Summary: It STINKS!!! Review: WE as readers were promised a touching story about a girl and her horse. Unfortunately this is what we got: Not much of a plot, bad writing, and very little of what could have been a beautiful story of the love between a owner and his/her horse. Very disapointing and not worth the time it takes to read the back of the book.
Rating: Summary: Hooks you from the start and keeps you interested Review: Nicholas Evans writes a great story. Action, romance, horses and human drams all make for a wonderful book. Evans gives the reader good characterizations, exploring the history of each character in the novel. It's easier to understand their present actions when we know about their past. Relationships between the people and with the horse, Pilgrim are the main focus. The bond of trust and love that was shattered between Grace and Pilgrim was also reflected in Grace's stormy relationship with her mother, Annie. Grace's healing, emotionally and physically is tied to Pilgrim's. The ability to move on with their lives could only happen when they were both ready for it. Annie's committment to healing the horse seemed beyond common sense at the time, but it held the key to helping Grace heal. Annie showed alot of different sides to her personality. She was a tough, ruthless executive, yet irrational in her personal life. The changes in her character were a little too fast and extreme to be believable. The book read very fast, it keeps you hooked from the start
Rating: Summary: Good book, excellent ending Review: Read the book in one breath. Beautiful scenery and people. I liked the fact of Tom and Annie having an affair: he changed the horse and the girl, why not the mom, too? And the ending is the only logical thing from my point of view. Haven't seen the movie yet, but I don't like their ending already.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyed Grace's relationships Review: More than the story about Tom's life or Annie as the central character, I enjoyed the relationships that Grace had in her life. I was especially touched by the father/daughter relationship. I also liked the development of Annie and Grace's mother/daughter relationship. The comaraderie she had with Joe was great to see and the relationship with Tom, and how it suffered towards the end, was interesting and believable too. The Pilgrim/Grace relationship was like a true friendship, based on trust, hurt, then slowly rebuilt. The development of the Tom/Annie relationship was a bit unbelievable and cliche for me. The fact that Annie was protrayed as the main character confused me a little. But, overall I though the book was well-written and worth reading.
