Summary: Trendy nonsense
Review: This story is extremely over rated. I felt nothing after reading it, except so what? Save your eyes and read something else.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The GREATEST book I have ever experienced!!!
Review: This book is without a doubt the best investment I have ever made. This book touched me and made me grieve for something I yearn for everyday. I wept while reading this book (I have read it many times) and I have higlighted passages and notes in the marigins. Evans has an amazing insight into every aspect of this book; between people and people and animals. This book made my heart soar and brake and then soar again. Although I have an active relationship with horses and this book was amazing in that respect, this book explores human relationships inside the family and also between two adults. This book is without a doubt the best book I have ever experienced.

Summary: Fascinating horsemanship, but not much else.
Review: I was intrigued, initially, by this book's premise, and was captivated throughout by the scenes involving the horse. Evans also captured the emotions of the traumatized youngster almost flawlessly. However, the additional romance left a mark that can only be described as disturbing. I disliked Annie, one of the main characters, from the start. The horse whisperer himself was a pleasant character at first. However, I lost any respect for her, and a lot of respect for him, after the appalling "romance-novel" trash near the book's end. Annie learns only to indulge her selfish behaviors and abandons her responsibilities for a fling. This whole mess was quite detrimental to the overall quality of the novel. Evans writes well, but his storyline could use some major revisions. The two stars, then, come solely from my appreciation for the plight of the young girl, Grace, and the occasional interactions between horse and whisperer. My advice: go see the movie. Rather than ending the story on the unsettling note of the novel, the film's conclusion will leave you with a feeling of fulfillment.

Summary: Why can't I give this tripe a zero star rating?
Review: The worst book ever. Reading the fine print on Insurance documents is more satisfying. What offended me most was that the first two thirds of the book were quite enjoyable in a trashy sort of a way. The last third was downright offensive drivel. Laughable sex scenes, Mills & Boon style plot and dialogue and a total abandonment of character development. The miraculous recovery of both horse and girl were totally unbelievable and only dealt with in passing instead of being the main focus of the novel. Equally unbelievable was the regression of the mother from a strong female role model into a simpering moron at the sexual beck and call of a cowboy. Please! The fact that the girl overcame the trauma of ....... without batting an eyelid, when she wanted to kill herself in the recent past just added to the air of absurdity. END

Summary: A must if you value the connection between animals/people.
Review: I am sure this book will remain at the top of my list for years to come. It will be difficult to beat!! A must for those who appreciate a connection between people and animals.

Summary: I almost could not carry on reading the detail was so vivid
Review: I heard about the film so decided to read the book. It was poignant, moving, showed the power of nature, the pull of career power and the power of love.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: DID I MISS SOMETHING HERE?
Review: I can only ask - what was the hype about? This book was truely appalling. Maybe it has its place as holiday reading 'trash' but beyond that I am at a loss to see why it has received such rave reviews elsewhere. AVOID!!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: I was sucker-punched into buying this
Review: Help! Is this what Americans want at the end of the millenium? Mangled horses, mangled kids, emotionally crippled adults. Evans does a great job of appealing to shallow emotions. I'd rather read about wars or serial killers. Those are true horrors.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: KUDOS :)
Review: I better begin with saying that my husband has already labeled the movie a "chick flick" only because of the emotion involved with the story. We haven't seen the movie yet, but I am looking VERY forward to it. And yes, I have read some very negative reviews about this book, and I found only 2 things that allowed me only to give it a 4 star rating. 1-I agree with is that Evans could have developed the plot a litte more due to some gaps in the story, but overall I couldn't put it down. 2-I don't think he needed all the "romance novel writing" for it to be an enticing story.

This story has a range of emotions to which EVERY reader can relate.Evans has an incredible way of drawing you into the characters, which made the story much more enjoyable. Evans made me laugh, cry and it is refreshing to have an ending that isn't the PC type ending that everyone supposedly wants. I guess I also like the story, because I saw an interview with Evans and some of the folks he "studied" for his characters. This kind of research allowed Evans to "know" his characters, thus being able to portray a realistic version of them in the story. He made his story accessible to our psyche. I feel all of us can relate to and/or know someone like one or more of the characters in this book. I can understand why Redford snatched up this story. It has all the makings of a GREAT movie and I am looking forward to seeing how Mr. Redford plays out the ending. So, KUDOS! Mr. Evans...AWESOME BOOK! I am looking forward to reading your next book "The Loop."

Summary: One of the best books I have read in a long long time. GREAT
Review: I am a very very avid animal lover and at first I thought I could not go on reading this book because I had kind of figured out what was going to happen. What a way to approach the inevitable. I did not know if I could continue but I could not put the book down. I do wish there were more writers that could do as well as this author did. Horse Whisperer will be one of the all time greats in this category. Thanks to the author for a wonderful job, and a wonderful job well done.
