Review: I read the book "The green Mile" by Stephen King. This was one of my favorite books I have ever read. This book explained everything so well, and it was all so complex and it didn't make you confused or it didn't make you want to stop reading it. The book left you n suspense all the time. It always left you hanging and wanting to read more. That's why I finished the book in three days! Just because I couldn't put the book down! I have read many of Stephen King's books. They are all so great but I would have to say "The Green Mile" was one of the better ones. He is such a great writer that I have nothing bad to say about him.

Summary: A Phenomenal Book
Review: The Green Mile is, I'm willing to say, Stephen King's most tought provoking and touching novel of all time. Every once and a while, King will leave behind the horror and out there plotsa, to settle down and write a book that is so true, so real, and so right on that it is scary. The novel is sectioned off into six parts, and each has its own special moments. King writes the plot surely, keeping us hooked at every turn, and when the climax is delivered, we smile, and really see what an excellent writer Mr. King really is. Those people who say King is nothing more than a writer of gore and carnage, pick up The Green Mile, and read it. I gaurentee that your mind will be changed by the time you are done with it. Scary, smart, and thoguht provoking, The Green Mile is one of Stephen King's most cherished works.

Summary: The green mile
Review: The main point in this story is that people are waiting to die because they are on deathrow. The place is called the green mile because it is like walking a mile before you get to die. Part 1 one of the green mile is about two dead girls. This guy named John Coffey gets accused of raping these two girls. Part 1 just tells you what happened to John coffey and how he got in jail.
I think this book as good, for a Part 1, because it described a lot about what was going on. This book is a good book it has more things in it than the movie, it has more description in it. I think the book is better than the movie.

Review: This story is about a man named John Coffey who is accused of raping and murdering two 9-year-old girls. A prison guard named Paul Edgecombe records the wonders that occur during the time John was in E block. He also tells of his life in a retirement home and how he compares friends from the past and future. This story grips you, and you wont want to stop reading it till it is over. The insight it will give you into a mans life that has to deal with terror everyday is amazing.

Summary: Well crafted dark fantasy.
Review: With this intriguing novel, King has moved away from mainstream horror, giving us an expertly written fable about the nature of good and evil. The characters are exceptionally well depicted, but with perhaps just a hint of stereotyping and even caricature about them. The Green Mile's origin as a serial novel in six (?) instalments is somewhat obvious, wherever the author reiterates significant events. This does strike the reader as rather odd at first, and serves to bulk out the hefty single-volume version, but is not overly annoying. Nonetheless, the story rattles along at a fair old pace, containing scenes of dark and ironic humour, violence, heart-stopping suspense and deep poignancy, leading to the profoundly moving dénouement. My only real criticism is that the Green Mile strays perilously close to melodrama at times, and a few of the scenarios are rather predictable (well to me anyway!). All in all however, I commend this as one of King's strongest works, which will appeal particularly to lovers of adult fantasy with roots firmly in the real world.

Summary: Stephen King does it again!
Review: Not your typical Stephen King Novel. Just like Shawshank Redemption (my all time favorite movie and story). The Green Mile is terrific. From the very first page I was hooked. You fall in love with the characters. My favorite character is the "mouse". I am not into "science fiction" or stories that are unbelievable, but King has a way of telling this story that keeps you mesmerized all the way to the end. I found myself reading this late into the night. Sorry the book was over. I am not a "typical" Stephen King fan, but this book is terrific.

Summary: Moving and emotional
Review: Being written by Stephen King, you would think that The Green Mile would be another horror novel. On the contrary, The Green Mile is a tale of magic and heartache and contains next to no horror outside of a villainous character. The narrator, Paul Edgecomb is sharing his story, through writing, in his retirement home. In the novel, Paul is telling the story of a man who affected his life significantly. In the 30's, Edgecomb served as the ward superintendent at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary's death row facility. Paul's personal job was to help the inmates live their last days peacefully, keep them occupied, and see to it that the inmates walked the "green mile",(the rooms and halls leading to the electric chair) with their humanity in tact. He speaks of several inmates that have crossed his life in his years working there. Some leave lasting impacts on him, while others bring grief to the whole ward.
Out of all Edgecomb's criminal acquaintances, one gently giant stands out. John Coffey comes to death row of the charge of raping and murdering twin nine year old girls. By merely looking at Coffey, you could easily picture him committing this bloody and disgusting crime. However he is a timid and unique man who attracts the fascination of the characters he contacts. Later, we learn that Coffey has a gift of healing and wants to die. After observing Coffey for awhile, Paul is convinced that he is innocent. The secret of Coffey's gift is revealed to Paul. The reality of this secret challenges his, and the reader's beliefs. The closing scene is powerful and deeply moving.
King developed his characters perfectly. He depicted good and evil clearly and effectively. The leading elements of the novel were supernatural reality and magic. The Green Mile's theme was on of good vs. evil among the characters.
The Green Mile is the most well written book I have ever read. King wrote in a way to make me feel like I was an actual guard observing the events in death row. I felt emotionally attached to the characters and found myself rooting for their well-being. I never cry in movies, much less when reading a book. At the end of this novel, I definitely cried.

Review: The most disappointing thing about this novel is the reading level at which it's written. Any fourth grader would have no problem understanding this book. Not at all challenging. That bugs me. oh, and a note for those who've seen the movie and are thinking of reading the book? Don't. You'll only be disappointed. The book is a screenplay for the movie. Scene by scene. And the movie is much better.

Summary: Great audio - compelling
Review: The narrator was excellent, providing just the right amount of emotion and urgency without going over the top.Two quibbles with the text itself -- too much foreshadowing (OK, OK, we get the point that something terrible is going to happen, just *get on* with telling it), and the fact that this is six chapter-books put together means there's a fair amount of re-telling the back-story at the beginning of each Part. But overall, this is a great "listen"... makes me enjoy my commute. (By the way... this is for the unabridged audiobook... and, I had not read the book or seen the movie before I listened to the audiobook.) I will check out the other books read by this narrator -- he's great.

Summary: Great...well, most of it was
Review: I'm not a King fan (he scares me too much) but i picked this book up and then couldn't put it down. King managed to keep me interested in all the characters and I was really desperate to know what was going to happen to them. However, I took one star off for the sickening description (the second electric chair scene) and one off for the ending, which, I'm sorry to say, was really disappointing. After all that story, all the narrator could say was 'Life sucks.' That's it? That's all the whole book was about? Life's a - uh - lady dog - and then you die? Sorry, but King really flunked out on the ending. However, the rest of it was great and I'd recommend it despite the ending because it challenges your perceptions on justice, hell, death and execution, and because it's full of feeling. It's just such a pity King didn't carry the brilliance all the way through.
