Summary: A readable book by a very readable author
Review: This was my first Stephen King novel. I wonder why I waited so long to read the works of a very good author. King is quite a storyteller. I enjoyed the story plot, in fact I enjoyed everything about this book. Written with lots of meaning and throught provoking ideas, The Green Mile is one of the best.....

Summary: Just Read It!
Review: I would hate to talk and talk long about how good this book is. Just look at all the other reviews. It does't take a rocket scientist to figure out this book is good. So instead of telling you all the good points in the book and how thier is hardly any bad I'm just going to tell you to go read the book!

Summary: From a Stephen King Fan
Review: When you are a King fan you begin to look for his astounding creativity. I read this book several years ago and it left me with a feeling that stuck with me and marked the experience. Only now of course do I remember the book once again after watching the movie. I vote that you read the book prior to watching the movie due to the fact that a good book lets your imagination go wild. The story will cause you to cry and feel what the characters feel. The story is entertaining and will make you sit up until 3 am with no inclination to stop till you can reason yourself to put it down.

Summary: King has outdone himself
Review: I started reading this book on a trip to a relative's house. It was an 22 hour trip and I had absoulutly nothing to do. I started reading and I was amazed at how absorbed I became and how quickly the time passed.

The interesting thing is that the Green Mile isn't very scary, nor is it's plot as complex as some of King's other works. However, I still found myself flipping through the pages at an incredible rate and very touched by the time I finished it.

Why? The characters. All the characters are very meorable and dominate the book. It's an excellent novel and one that no one should miss.

Summary: Ultimately the best Stephen King book ever
Review: This book will captivate you from the first chapter to the very end. John Coffey is a lovable character and the narrator of the story makes you understand every aspect of the plot. The story has suspense and compasion for everyday miracles. The story will make you cry if you're human. The movie adaption is one of the best that I've ever seen. No one should miss out on this story, which I like is fast becoming a classic in many age groups.

Summary: Stephen King shows once again that he is an excellent author
Review: I was extremely amazed when I found out that Stephen King does not only limit himself to writing horror novels! The Green Mile is an excellent book that gives an explicit detail on what happened on "the Mile". Delacroix's death is a great example. I almost felt as if I were in the group of spectators that were watching him fry. King did a magnificent job on creating John Coffey. This big man with a heart of gold. One of God's greatest creations. While watching the movie, I felt like I knew which character was which, based on the descriptions of them in the novel. The Green Mile is definitely one of my favorite books!

Summary: The Perfect Story, the Perfect Miracle
Review: I am left breathless and amazed by Stephen King's wonderful tale of Paul Edgecombe's roughest times at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. As a 13-year-old, this novel was a landmark for me; never had I read a book so compelling on its topic, and I'm sure I never will. The richly developed, varying charcters pulled me into this swirling story of crime, adventure and miracles. The story of how Edgecombe's secure life is spun upside down by his meeting of John Coffey ("Coffey like the drink, but not spelled the same," he says), an insecure giant with the mind of a child, is both a thriller and a tear-jerker. As Edgecombe searches for the truth about John Coffey, both in Coffey's strange but wonderful power and in the horribly grotesque crime he is condemned for, you will find yourself looking behind a person's eyes more and more. This book will challenge your beliefs on life as a whole and will meet the highest expectations if you are looking for a great book. I no longer think of Stephen King as just a horror novelist, but as the author of a wonderfully woven tale to be cherished forever.

Summary: An Ok Story, But Over-rated
Review: I enjoyed this one well enough. It was extremely dull and hard to get into toward the beginning, but picked up a bit by the end. I definately would not consider it the great work everyone else seems to think it is, though. I appriciate it for what it is, and am glad King did the serialization expieriment (though I read it all in one volume.) As far as prison works go, though, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption was leagues better.

Summary: The Green Mile
Review: I was fortunate enough to have read the book before the movie, not to say Hollywood didn't do a great job. It's a truly spectacular story, and, of course, very well written. The events that take place definitely make the end of this story very worth while. The main characters, Paul, the head executioner on deathrow and Mr. Coffey, a prisoner on The Green Mile, have an extraordinary relationship that leads to a very complex chain of feelings and events for Paul, and the other executioners on The Green Mile. With all of the things Mr. Coffey is capable of, the ending of this story was unexpected, yet almost anticipated. Very good reading!
