Summary: Unpardonable
Review: Grisham's worst! After a promising start, the storyline goes from interesting to ludicrous. And the ending is simply unpardonable. Don't wait for the movie...nobody's dumb enough to make it.

Summary: Do not bother reading this book
Review: I stopped reading Grisham after his poor showing with The Rainmaker, but started again because the last few were good. Now I am stopping again for good. This book was horrid and boring. I only finished it because I hoped something interesting would eventually happen (like the ending in The Partner). But it never did. There were no plot twists and nothing of interest ever happened. All of the characters were flat (and once again, all were male). This was not a good book.

Summary: Total Garbage
Review: I've never considered Grisham a writer. I've read a few of his books merely because they are a quick read and I find out what the movie will be about. Usually, the books are not awful, the action and suspense sometimes catch my interest. The Brethren however made me want to vomit. The book was probably the worst piece of writing I have ever read. The story was equally terrible. I can not believe it was published.

Summary: You let's us down, John!
Review: I listen to the audio cassette which was an abridged version so maybe they left something out -- like a likeable character! This book (and Runaway Jury) had no characters that I cared about -- no-one to root for. Also what was up with Buster? Was there a point for putting him in the story? Again was something left out of the audio version? I was very disappointed.

Summary: By far not his best book, many gaps...
Review: I have read all of Grisham's books and this one was different them all of them. It's not as law related as the others with no big firms or major law conflict involved. Grisham left many holes in the story though and even introduced one character during one of the chapters and never mentioned him again. The political side is interesting though in light of the campaign going on right now. The book wasn't bad, but not great. Not worth the full price, and even the 50% Amazon price is questionable (that's what I paid). Definately worth borrowing and reading. Entertaining but problematic.

Summary: Better than network television, still not Hollywood material
Review: Perhaps John can squeeze a cable feature out of this sad piece of work... perhaps not.

Right after I had finished it I felt so let down. I truly expected more from a story with so much promise. The ending was terrible. Grisham must be REALLY out of touch to think THAT would make us happy.

Preferred ending: something along the lines of the conclusion to the movie "Suicide Kings".

I wish it had been longer to,(would have had to be to fit in a decent ending anyway) I started it on a Wednesday and finished on Thursday instead of Friday.

oh well...

Later, John

Summary: Don't Bother with this one
Review: If you are a true John Grisham fan, don't read this book. It was so disappointing that I'm not sure I will buy his next one the first week it hits the stores like I usually do. It had no plot, not much of a story line and the ending tied nothing together. Don't waste your time.

Summary: The Brethren
Review: Being a fan of Grisham's novels I usually rush to the bookstore to buy whatever he writes. I must confess I have been disappointed to some extent by everything since The Partner. Nonetheless, I keep the faith. The Brethren, however, was a major disappointment because, what started like a a first-class thriller, ended as flat as can be. In fact, the surprise is that the book contains no surprises. In the end, we could say it is an intriguing narrative, but little else. Next Grisham novel, I will make sure to read the Amazon reviews and comments by other readers before buying it. Sorry John, this one was a major dud!

Summary: Just churning out books
Review: Grisham starts out with a great idea and great political timing then I think a weekend rolled around and he wrapped things up early. The Brethren would've made a dynamite 800 page thriller but he turned it into a subpar 300 page novelette.

Summary: Still Awesome After All These Years...
Review: I can't imagine how my copy of The Brethren could be so different from those of two previous reviewers, but mine was AWESOME! I wait 364 days every year for Grisham's next book, and devour each of them the day they are released. I distinctly remember when I read the last page of The Brethren, I closed the cover, laid the book down, and said aloud, "Wow!" Not many authors get a "wow" from me, although I read all the best sellers and lots of others. John Grisham is the best, and in my opinion, he's as good as ever. A wonderful read. I highly recommend it.
