Review: I always find Grisham's books to be much better on audiocassette, perhaps I'm a captive audience as I travel 300+ miles in the car, perhaps because the book is abridged and the plot is tighter.I loved the story throughout and found myself interested, but uninvolved with the characters. When the end came, I was disappointed because Grisham's usually pretty good about giving people their comeuppance, but when I thought about it, just about none of the parties involved were innocent and despite their seeming to have gotten what the wanted, I think they all sacrificed a lot, even Maynard, who conquered all but was in ill health and miserable. So, on second thought, I thought the ending was all right after all. I've a feeling that if I'd read this book, I would have given in only 3 stars, but as a book-on-tape, it was an ear-perker.

Summary: Extremely Disappointed Grisham Fan
Review: I have loved every one of Grisham's books and I had anxiously awaited his next book. I commute by train over 2 hours a day and I read a lot during my commute. I just couldn't motivate myself to read more than 60 pages in this one. It's like Grisham was just trying to fulfill a contract. I even preordered it because I was so excited that a new Grisham book was about to be released. What a let down! I loaned it to a friend, also a Grisham fan, and he was very disappointed too. I was also going to loan it to another friend but she had already read it and she was disappointed too. Don't waste your time or your money on this one.

Review: this is the firsst grisham book i have ever read and one of the best books i have ever read(harry potter and a wrinkle in time) i looove how he intertwines the two stories i diddnt buy the book i won it at a chinese auction but it is a great book and i recommend it to everyone you will love it if you enjoy rewading at all

Summary: Get a Closer from the Bull Pen
Review: I love legal thrillers and suspenseful tales, but Grisham needs a relief pitcher for the late innings. The ending was so weak, I wondered if he had fallen asleep writing it, like I did reading it. In contrast, I recently read two books by an author in the same genre. He's lesser known, but the guy writes a fantastic finish. If you're a Grisham fan, as I was through his earlier books, try Frederick Schofield's "A Run to Hell" or "The Boardwalkers." Mr. Grisham, maybe you should, too.

Summary: A Classic Boondoggle
Review: Grisham snares the reader with the first couple of chapters in this one, but soon leaves the reader feeling anxious for something to happen. Repeated lines throughout the book dull the reader as nothing exciting happens. The book picks up pace near the middle though as the CIA becomes the "Big Brother" of the West and every agent and his brother is placed on the "domestic issue of utmost importance." Grisham could have gone a lot of ways with this one but the ending was a big disappointment (surprise?). Don't waste your money.

Summary: Different but OK
Review: I can agree with those that say it is not Grisham's best piece of work, but I did like it anyway. This book is a change for Grisham; a little different than what we are used to from him. Instead of a high suspenseful nail biter, this one is more of a comical entwined story line. It is basically about three imprisoned judges with a scam going. I found the main characters to be pretty satirical. Again, it was different for Grisham, but a change is OK sometimes too. I got a kick out of it and it did keep my interest.

Summary: Alas; the reviews are true...
Review: John Grisham is by far my favorite author; but this last effort left me cold. Never once did I feel the main characters were in any danger; which is one of the feelings a suspense novel should create in a reader. The story was different but dull. I am hoping that Grisham will return to writing that makes one want to reccommend or lend the book to others. Two of my Grisham novels are lost because I lent them out. Three of them are ragged because I've read them each three times. But I will always know where "The Brethren" is; and it will always look brand new. I think Mr. Grisham must have cranked this one out in four days or less.

Summary: Grisham's No.1 fan!
Review: The Brethern was wonderful.I have read all of the authors books.This one kept me spellbound. Grisham stepped out of his regular mold,I am glad he did.The characters(already in jail) were a likable old bunch even if they were the bad guys. The storyline about the presidential candidate was timely in this election year. I'm ready for his next book.

Summary: Fair, but not up to The Partner or Runaway Jury
Review: This newest Grisham novel was not bad, but was not great either. The outline for the book was very good. It just seemed that John got tired towards the end of the book and just ended it quickly, with little thought about the ending. If this were a movie, I'd say skip it in the theater and rent it later.
