Summary: The Best Grisham Book
Review: I thought this was the best book by Grisham that I've read to date. The story continues to develop and intrigue the reader until the very end. As I watched the story unravel, I could not wait to see what would happen next. Also, after working for a campaign committee in Washington, D.C., it amazes me how true Grisham's story rings in this book as some of the characters strive to achieve their politcal gains while working to prevent The Brethren from ruining their plot.

Summary: One of John Grisham's best yet!
Review: I really enjoyed reading "The Brethren". It was a surprisingly fun read, constantly leaves you guessing, and is brilliantly plotted and written. The story is indeed suspenseful, as it begins with two separate plots, which do not mesh until fairly late in the story. When the two plots finally intertwine, the action kicks in and you can't put it down. The role of the protagonists and antagonists blur and fade throughout the story until you realize that there is no good guy, it's simply the corrupt against the corrupt. I found the ending amusing... Call me cynical, sometimes the traditional good guy wins/bad guy loses format gets a little boring. Smooth and sarcastic, "The Brethren" is a refreshing departure from it.

Summary: Leaves you wondering "What was he THINKING?"
Review: _The Brethren_ is an untidy mess of a book, apparently written without any regard for reading pleasure. As others have pointed out, there is absolutely no admirable character drawn here. Worse, some of the least admirable characters (I won't say which) are richly rewarded at book's end.

This book makes no sense, but it fulfilled its purpose in making quite a few dollars for Mr. Grisham (who has wisely given up writing "thrillers").

The first few chapters are written with the old Grisham sense of humor and irony, but all that follows just plods on to a tedious conclusion.

Summary: Plot Holes
Review: I enjoyed reading this book, but I couldn't get past the huge plot holes. I won't give any away, but if you read the book you'll know what I mean. The story is also somewhat predictable, no big surprises.

Summary: Ho-Hum
Review: This work continues Grisham's departure from his true art--the courtroom thriller. Being a native of North Florida, I enjoyed the setting, especially all of the references to Jacksonville Beach landmarks--it gave it a "real" feel. However, the story line streched it perhaps a bit too far. This is probably one that you would want to check out from your public library instead of buying yourself.

Summary: Simply awesome!
Review: I loved this book. Grisham starts out with two different plots that are seemingly unconnected. But then as a master storyteller, he connects them in a way that keeps the suspense throughout the rest of the book. I even see events that happen today and I think back to some of the concepts in this book and I wonder if it's possible. This was my favorite Grisham book.

Summary: error in the pages....
Review: I recently bought a book about this author. This was my first title of him, and I found his work magical. Forgive if I'm wrong, his ideas were so dramatical and unimaginable that only great writers can think of. I was close in finishing the last few chapters when all of a sudden the pages came returning to page one again. Whew! I was so irritated I don't know what to do. IS THIS SOME KIND OF A ERROR ON THE PUBLISHER'S PART? I was actually planning to return the book on the bookstore, but I decided to keep it. Who knows, this may have a great value to Grisham's avid collectors. SO IF ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN BUYING THIS, just e-mail me and I'll reply as soon as I see it.

Summary: not grisham's best!
Review: sorry grisham fans this was not his best but still good. I had a hard time with the middle of the story.

Summary: One of his best
Review: I rank this book second on his list of work (the best in my opinion was A Time To Kill). I liked it because the subplots didn't converge until almost half way into the book, teasing you to keep the pieces together. It also had lawyers as less central figures in it, after politicians and criminals, so that was a very good change up.

I plowed through this this past weekend. Started reading it on Saturday evening and was done by Sunday evening. Like all of his books, it is a real page turner and I found myself fighting back much needed sleep in order to keep going. We probably won't be reading Grisham 100 years from now, but his books are always highly readable, well thought out, set forth in a plausable manner, and most importantly, entertaining.

If you like Grisham, you will like this book.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time
Review: I have read and liked several other Grisham novels, and I was sorely disappointed in this one. The characters were all shallow and poorly developed, and the plot was predictable from the first page. I found nothing enjoyable in this novel, from the greedy, corrupt and shallow characters to the easily predictable story line to the let down of an ending. There was no climax to this story, it just ended. ALthough not soon enough.
