Summary: pure brilliance, shining brightly, no waiting, no lines
Review: All it takes is picking up the book, and you're immediately lost in the ramblings of a genius mind. From cover to cover, and all pages and sub-pages and sub-sub-pages, the book never ceases to pick you up. (Though I'm not sure as to where you'll end up.) If you enjoy laughing at yourself and the world around you... and having it pointed out by a comic genius... pick up the book. Pick up anything. Get out and do something with you likfe. Just don't write book. that's Ellen's job.

Summary: Oh Ellen, What Happened??
Review: Let me preface this by saying that, normally, I am a huge fan of Ellen. I find her to be charming, enthusiastic, clever, and downright funny. I love her stand-up comedy, love her HBO specials, and really enjoy her daytime show, when I have a chance to see it.

...However, "The Funny Thing Is..." that the book just wasn't funny. It was, in fact, painful at parts. While I normally adore her sometimes quirky wit, it just didn't come through in this book. I am unsure if she was experimenting with new comedy, or a new style...but all I can say is, I found it to be disjointed, incoherent, and bland. Most of the skits in the book were so unenjoyable that I stopped reading them halfway through. I would not recommend this book to anyone, Ellen fan or not.

(I'm sorry, Ellen!)

Summary: Try reading it out loud
Review: I took this book on a weekend away, thinking it would be light and fun. It was very light and mildly fun, but I wasn't really that engaged by it. Then I began reading a few passages to my brother that I thought he would enjoy. We both laughed out loud and I began to appreciate her clever witticisms more. This led me to the discovery that Degeneres' humor is meant to be spoken. Her essays read more like a transcript of a good standup routine than freestanding comic prose. So if you like Ellen, get this book and try taking turns reading it out loud with a friend. It might be a fun way to pass the time on a road trip. My brother and I certainly got a few good snorting chuckles out of it!

Summary: Cute, funny essays¿
Review: This book of essays ranging from "Terrible Fashion Trends" to "Why Being In Prison Wouldn't Be So Bad" show why Ellen's humor has succeeded in making her a great comedian with a hit talk show. Many times during reading, I felt myself chuckle or say out loud "Yes!" I even read some passages aloud to family members. While you might not come away with any deep insights, it's a light and charming comedy read, perfect for the beach.

Summary: Laugh Out Loud
Review: This book was hilarious. I laughed out loud over and over. The only thing that would make it better would be if Ellen came over and read the book to me. After reading this book, I game it to a few people for Christmas gifts. I will be reading it again very soon!

Summary: Funny enough
Review: The Ellen Degeneres book is for any person looking for a good old laugh. It has plenty of funny quirks in it. The titles of the chapters are hilarious like, "That's why prison wouldnt be so bad," or, "Making your life count (and other fun things to do with your time)," or," My dad was like a father to me." There are many more inside this book that i shall let the reader discover. This book is great for any reader that wants a break from the tough, thought-provoking, tiny print books. It is a wonderful comedy that any reader will love.

Summary: The Funny thing is...this book is not that funny
Review: I really enjoy watching Ellen's talk show, she is funny, spunky and entertaining, however if you watch her show or seen her do stand up, you will not think this book is funny, a lot of the material that is in the book I heard her talk about on her show.
Nonetheless there are some funny excerpts, good book for an Ellen fan.

Summary: Be warned before you buy
Review: I'm a huge Ellen fan and I bought this book expecting to be laughing out loud like the reviews of it suggested but I didn't even come close. Don't get me the wrong, the book is very funny but the problem it's all repeated material. If you have seen her HBO specials ("The Beginning" and "Here and Now") than I suggest you not get this book. This book is basically a transcript of her hbo specials literally word for word. There is only about 1/4 of the book that is new material. While the book is funny, if you watch her show regularily and especially if you have seen the hbo specials, you will find that a lot of this book is the same stories and jokes that you have already heard. If your one of these people, I suggest buy it cheap or borrow it from a friend. It's not worth your money to pay full price to hear jokes you've already heard before. (And personally I think the hbo specials are funnier because you get to see her acting out the stories and hear her voice). Therefore, if you still want to buy the book, get it on audio tape because then you can hear her voice.

Summary: The best book I've ever read
Review: Never have I cracked up so hard while reading a book. Ellen is sheerly delightful. While reading, don't be suprised if people look at you from laughing so hard. You might want to stay near a hospital just in case you accidentally hurt yourself while laughing.
Ellen is amazing at how she can put a twist on things that, in our minds aren't even remotely funny, can make you start laughing the moment you see it happen again. For instance, starting a new toilet paper roll. The next time you have to start a new roll, people in stalls near you will be wondering what you're laughing about.

Summary: Wonderful beach book!
Review: Light and witty, this book brings back some famous texts and some less famous. She has her own style, and yes, she is funny. Love you Ellen!
